ABOUT THE MUSICIANS Caravanserai s core members, Yi-Ping Chen (oboe), Jessica Embach Jankauskas (viola), and Eleanor Graham (cello) first met in their toddlers Musikgarten class. As recent transplants to the Shenandoah Valley, they all found themselves craving musical collaboration. One conversation at the playground quickly led to late night brainstorming sessions and rehearsals full of laughter. The core members are the beating heart of Caravanserai, but they are not the only travelers here. Caravanserai functions by expanding and contracting based on the needs of the particular performance. From duos to full chamber orchestra pieces, the focus is on the music. They are pleased to present today's program with Clement Acevedo. Clement Acevedo has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in the Philippines, China and the United States. Described by the Philippine Daily Inquirer as having a biting rhythmic drive, he has performed with the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra, the University of Santo Tomas Symphony Orchestra, and most recently, with the James Madison Symphony Orchestra. Clement won first prize in the 2004 National Competition for Young Artists in the Philippines; in 2009 he participated as a semifinalist in the Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition. He holds degrees from the University of the Philippines, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, and a DMA from James Madison University. He has presented lectures and masterclasses in the US and the Philippines. His current research interest is on the Russian composer Nikolai Medtner. We invite you to stay for Choral Evensong, sung by the Trinity. Evensong is a beautiful, meditative service of prayer, music, and scripture that is about 45 minutes in length. All are welcome to join us. 3

INTROIT CHORAL EVENSONG The Book of Common Prayer, p. 61 Call to Remembrance Richard Farrant (c ) Call to remembrance, O Lord, thy tender mercy and thy loving kindness which hath been ever of old. Remember not the sins and offences of my youth: but according to thy mercy think thou on me O Lord, for thy goodness. All stand to sing the Processional Hymn. PROCESSIONAL HYMN Sung by All Most Holy God, the Lord of heaven Dunedin Hymnal 31 OPENING SENTENCES CONFESSION OF SIN & ABSOLUTION DEAR friends in Christ, here in the presence of Almighty God, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, so that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy. All kneel. ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against thy holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen. THE Almighty and merciful Lord grant you absolution and remission of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen. THE INVITATORY AND PSALTERI All stand for the Opening Preces and Responses and remain standing while the Invitatory is sung. THE OPENING PRECES AND RESPONSES Officiant O Lord, open thou our lips. And our mouth shall show forth thy praise. Officiant O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us. 4 Richard Ayleward ( )

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Praise ye the Lord. The Lord s name be praised. THE INVITATORY Sung by the choir Hail, gladdening light (Phos hilaron) Charles Wood ( ) Hail, gladdening light, of His pure glory poured, who is the immortal Father, heavenly, blest, holiest of holies Jesu Christ, our Lord. Now we are come to the sun s hour of rest, the lights of evening round us shine, we hymn the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Divine. Worthiest art Thou at all times to be sung with undefiled tongue. Son of our God, giver of life alone; therefore in all the world thy glories Lord, they own. The people are seated for the Psalms. THE PSALTER Sung by the choir Psalm 46 Deus noster refugium Chant: Martin Luther ( ) BCP p. 649 THE LESSONSI The people remain seated for the Lessons and Canticles. THE FIRST LESSON Genesis 48:8-22 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. CANTICLE Sung by the choir MY soul doth magnify the Lord, * and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. For he hath regarded * the lowliness of his handmaiden. For behold from henceforth * all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me, * and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him * throughout all generations. He hath showed strength with his arm; * he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, * and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things, * and the rich he hath sent empty away. Magnificat in Eb (The Song of the Blessed Virgin Mary) Healey Willan ( ) 5

He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel, * as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed for ever. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; * As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. THE SECOND LESSON John 6:27-40 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. CANTICLE Sung by the choir LORD, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, * according to thy word; For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, * which thou hast prepared before the face of all people, To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, * and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Nunc dimittis in Eb (The Song of Simeon) Willan GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; * As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. The people stand for the Apostles Creed THE APOSTLES CREED I BELIEVE in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. THE PRAYERSI SALUTATION Officiant Officiant The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. 6

The People kneel THE LESSER LITANY Sung by the choir LORD have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us. Ayleward THE LORD S PRAYER OUR Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. THE SUFFRAGES Officiant O Lord, show thy mercy upon us. And grant us thy salvation. Officiant O Lord, save the State. And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee. Officiant Endue thy ministers with righteousness. And make thy chosen people joyful. Officiant O Lord, save thy people. And bless thine inheritance. Officiant Give peace in our time, O Lord. Because there is none other that fighteth for us, but only thou, O God. Officiant O God, make clean our hearts within us. And take not thy Holy Spirit from us. Ayleward THE COLLECT OF THE DAY BCP p. 167 GRACIOUS Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which giveth life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. A COLLECT FOR AID AGAINST PERILS LIGHTEN our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. 7

A PRAYER FOR MISSION KEEP watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give thine angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for thy love s sake. Amen. The people stand to sing the Office Hymn. OFFICE HYMN Sung by all Eternal Lord of love Old 124th Hymnal 149 The people sit for the Anthem. ANTHEM Sung by the choir Prayer of John Donne William Bradley Roberts (b. 1947) Wilt thou forgive that sin, where I begun, which is my sin, though it were done before? Wilt thou forgive those sins through which I run, and do run still, though still I do deplore? When thou hast done, thou hast not done, for I have more. Wilt thou forgive that sin, by which I won others to sin, and made my sin their door? Wilt thou forgive that sin which I did shun a year or two, but wallowed in a score? When thou hast done, thou hast not done, for I have more. I have a sin of fear that when I ve spun my last thread, I shall perish on the shore; swear by thyself, that at my death thy Son shall shine as he shines now, and heretofore. And having done that, thou hast done, I fear nor more. The Officiant then says Let us pray. The people kneel. INTERCESSIONS AND THANKSGIVINGS THE GENERAL THANKSGIVING ALMIGHTY God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men. We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful; and that we show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen. A PRAYER OF ST. CHRYSOSTOM ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication unto thee, and hast promised through thy well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name thou wilt be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, 8

the desires and petitions of thy servants as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen. CONCLUDING VERSICLE AND RESPONSE THE GRACE THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen. All stand to sing the Recessional Hymn. RECESSIONAL HYMN Sung by All The day thou gavest St. Clement Hymnal 24 Please be seated during the playing of the voluntary.
