Please sign our guest book (make sure to indicate if you would like the Pastor to visit) and accept our invitation to worship with us again. Who should commune at the Altar of Glory of Christ Lutheran Church? According to the Scriptures and the Confessional statements of the church only those should commune who have been examined and absolved by the pastor. If you wish to commune at Glory of Christ for the first time, please talk to the Pastor before doing so. Holy Communion is the most intimate expression of Christian fellowship and it is important to the members of Glory of Christ Lutheran Church that all who commune have a common understanding and commitment to the Gospel teachings of the Bible.

2 Altar Flower Chart: The cost of the Altar flowers is $40 per Sunday and you will be able to take your flowers home with you after the service in a box located on the kitchen counter. In order to have your payment for flowers applied correctly, please use one of the Designated Offering envelopes found in your box of envelopes or label the outside of one of your regular envelopes with the words Altar flowers. Janice Hartness is our flower coordinator. If you have any special requests please contactt her at by the Wednesday prior. If you take the black liners home, please be sure to bring them back to church by the following Wednesday. Thank You! Saturday Evening Divine Service: 5:00 PM. Results of Call Meeting: Glory of Christ has extended a call to Pastor Kyle Krueger who currently is serving at Emmanuel Lutheran in Soest, Indiana. He and his wife, Kimberly, are visiting GoC this weekend and will be attending both the Saturday Evening and Sunday Morning Divine Services. Northwest Suburban Circuit Congregation Prayers Each week we will be praying for a congregationn in the circuit and for others who have or have had a connection with them. This week, we are asking for prayers for Gory of Christ Lutheran Church, Plymouth and their Pastor, Jeremiah Johnson. Monthly Game Night! Join us in the fellowship hall every 2nd Friday of the month for cards, board games, and fun. The first two nights have been so much fun! The next one is scheduledd for Friday, February 12 th. Whether you have a favorite game you never leave the house without, want to learn a new game, or don' 't own any games at all, come on out! The night starts at 6:30. The name isn t necessarily needed, but the $$ amount on the envelope makes the counting go much faster! Thank You! 2016 Bread of Life Higher Things Conference Info: The 2016 Higher Things Conference theme is Bread of Life and Glory of Christ will be going to the Cedar Falls, IA Conference location this year. Dates are July 5 th to the 8 th. Please let us know if your children are interested and if any of you would like to chaperone. Cost is $ per child, but don t let cost deter your child from going! We need to know the names of who is going by January 17, 2016 as the registration cost goes up on February 1 st. An from Julie Anderson has gone out. Please respond to Brenda or Julie ASAP! Quilters: We will be returning to replenish our supply of quilts in January: The next date in January will be Tuesday the 26th. We will start at 9:00 am and work till around 3:00pm. Come any time, we can use more help. If you come during lunch, we each bring ours with us. We always take breaks for coffee!! So, come and have some fellowship with the quilters. Thank You! Also: INVITATION - Zion Lutheran Church, Hopkins, has extended an invitation to anyone who would like to help quilt on Wednesday, February 3rd from 9 am to 3 pm for the Orphan Grain Train. 4 At Glory of Christ the pastor typically makes announcements after the service. So the service just starts at the appropriate time without a specific welcome. (The welcome actually occurs in the service itself when the pastor says The Lord be with you and the congregation responds.) To follow the service you should turn to the page indicated at the top of your bulletin insert. This week the page is 151. Usually we simply work through the service interrupting the process for the singing of hymns, certain prayers and the scripture readings. The prayers are usually printed in the service folder as are the Scripture readings. Hymns are found in the latter half of the Service book. If you are having trouble following the service you can ask someone nearby and they will help you. You can also comfort yourself with the knowledge that almost everyone has a little trouble following the service the first time through. It gets easier. Worship Notes The Third Sunday After Epiphany Luke 4:16-30 The Hometown Disadvantage This is Jesus' first appearance in the synagogue. Most of what Jesus did was perfectly normal. One of the men from the community would stand and read the scriptures. Then he would sit down and preach on that text. But what Jesus said was not perfectly normal. He began, Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. In other words, that prophecy that I just read? It's about me. But the people didn't believe him. After all, they knew Jesus' mom and dad (and probably all of his siblings). How could the Messiah come from such common folks? So Jesus did the rhetorical equivalent of shaking the dust off his shoes and reminded them of the widow of Zarephath. Elijah the prophet could have visited any of the faithful Israelite widows in his day, but instead, brought the word to a pagan from Sidon. Likewise, the prophet Elisha didn't cure a leper from his own people, but healed Naaman, a foreigner. So read between the lines: since the people from His own hometown wouldn't believe Him, Jesus would go to pagans and foreigners and proclaim the good news to them instead. No wonder they were so mad.
