1 Welcome to Trinity Church Whether you have worshiped here for years or are visiting our Episcopal Church for the first time, we are glad you are with us. We invite all to enter fully into worship and to explore the variety of learning, small group, and service opportunities that are part of our life together. To learn more, visit trinitychurchboston.org and click on New to Trinity, or contact Mark Kharas, at x360. Sun., Sept. 10, 2017 Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Exodus 12:1-14 Romans 13:8-14 Matthew 18:15-20 Sun., Sept, 17, 2017 Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost O God, because without you we are not able to please you, mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. 6 Music in the Liturgy Anthem Teach me, O Lord William Byrd ( ) Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes : and I shall keep it unto the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law: yea, I shall keep it with my whole heart. Make me to go in the path of thy commandments : for therein is my desire. Incline my heart unto thy testimonies : and not to covetousness. O turn away mine eyes, lest they behold vanity : and quicken thou me in thy way. O stablish thy word in thy servant: that I may fear thee. Psalm 119:33-38 Anthem He delivered the poor C.H.H. Parry ( ) He delivered the poor in his affliction, the fatherless and him that hath none to help him. He shall bind up the broken hearted, and proclaim liberty to the captives, and comfort to those who mourn. He shall give them beauty for ashes; the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth things that are sown to spring forth. So the Lord God will cause righteousness and peace to spring forth before all nations. From: Hear my words, ye people Anthem How can I keep from singing? Traditional My life flows on in endless song, above earth s lamentation. I hear the real though far off hymn, that hails a new creation. Through all the tumult and the strife I hear its music ringing. It sounds an echo in my soul. How can I keep from singing? What though the tempest loudly roars, I hear the truth it liveth. And though the darkness round me close, songs in the night it giveth. No storm can shake my inmost calm, while to that rock I m clinging, since love is lord of heav n and earth, how can I keep from singing? When tyrants tremble in their fear, and hear their death knell ringing; When friends rejoice both far and near, How can I keep from singing? In prison cell and dungeon vile our thoughts to thee are winging. When friends by shame are undefiled, how can I keep from singing? Anthem The eyes of all wait upon thee William Harris ( ) The eyes of all wait upon thee, O Lord: Jean Berger ( ) and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand: and fillest all things living with plenteousness. The Lord is righteous in all his ways: and holy in all his works. The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him faithfully. He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry and will help them. The Lord preserveth all them that love him. Psalm 145: Music in the Liturgy 9 am, 11:15 am & 6 pm
7 Trinity Choristers & Schola o The Trinity Choir Colin Lynch, Associate Director of Music o Richard Webster, Director of Music Anthem Meditabor in mandatus tuis G.P. da Palestrina (c ) Meditabor in mandatis tuis, quae dilexi valde: et levabo manus meas ad mandata tua, quae dilexi. I will meditate on thy commandments, which I have loved exceedingly: and I will lift up my hands to thy commandments, which I have loved. Anthem Draw us in the Spirit s tether Harold Friedell ( ) Draw us in the Spirit s tether; For when humbly, in thy name, Two or three are met together, Thou art in the midst of them: Alleluya! Touch we now thy garment s hem. As the brethren used to gather In the name of Christ to sup, Then with thanks to God the Father Break the bread and bless the cup. Alleluya! So knit thou our friendship up. All our meals and all our living Make as sacraments of thee, That by caring, helping, giving, We may true disciples be. Alleluya! We will serve thee faithfully. Anthem Ubi caritas Paul Mealor (b. 1975) Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor. Exultemus, et in ipso jucundemur. Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum. Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero. Amen. Where there is charity and love, God is there. The love of Christ has gathered us together. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Let us revere and love the living God. And from a sincere heart let us love one another. Amen. Anthem Bless the Lord, O my soul Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov ( ) Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Blessed art Thou, O Lord. Bless the Lord and forget not all His benefits: And all that is within me bless His holy name. He is full of compassion and mercy, Long suffering and great in goodness. He will not always be chiding nor keepeth He, His wrath forever. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Blessed art Thou, O Lord. From Psalm am, 11:15 am & 6 pm Music in the Liturgy 6
