Acts 8:14-17 When the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. The two went down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit (for as yet the Spirit had not come upon any of them; they had only been bap5zed in the name of the Lord Jesus). Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Now when all the people were bap5zed, and when Jesus also had been bap5zed and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. We are so glad you chose to join us this morning! Special Announcements Gold Cup Challenge: This is a challenge for the parish to read scripture! Details were in the January Good News. The challenge is to read the New Testament in 15 weeks: beginning on Epiphany and ending on Easter! Are you up to the challenge? (The Silver Cup challenge is to read the four Gospels in 15 weeks). We have a leaderboard keeping track of everyone's progress in the narthex. Mills Farewell Celebra$on: As you know, Fr. Eric and Sue Mills will be moving to North Carolina later this month. We are planning a farewell potluck on the 20th immediately following the 9 am service on that day. Items needing aren5on are touch up paint of door frames, filling in gaps in the vinyl base, adding a hook/latch in one of the women's rest room stalls, and long range replacing ~ 10 toilets in the facility. 5 Men s Ministry March 16, 2018: A DAY FOR MEN 2019 is a men's retreat day at St Norbert's Abby from 9:15 am-5:00 pm. Several members of St Anne s Men s Ministry have already registered for the retreat. Cost: $45 (includes presenta5ons, morning refreshments, lunch) Registra5on and non-refundable, non-transferable payment required by March 11. Outreach Valen$ne s Spaghe_ Dinner Fundraiser Event: Join us Saturday, February 9th from 4:30-7:30 pm for a Spaghew Dinner Fundraiser Event for thefather William L. Galaty Scholarship, which benefits our Summer Campers and those arending Post-Secondary Educa5on! Sign-ups will be out soon. We will need volunteers to help with the event and dessert dona5ons. Of course, monetary dona5ons are always welcome. 8 About this Service To live as a Chris5an is to respond to God in thanksgiving for our crea5on, redemp5on, and all the blessings of this life. Eucharist means thanksgiving, and this service of thanksgiving is the heart of the life of thanksgiving. It is the one service Jesus gave to his church and commanded us to use. The parern is very simple. It falls into two parts. In the first, we hear again the readings from the Bible what God has done for us, culmina5ng in the Gospel, God s perfect word to us in Jesus Christ. This is expounded in the sermon and affirmed in the Creed. The second part expresses our response to God, beginning with prayers for the world and seeking forgiveness for our sin. Then, having greeted one another with a sign of reconcilia5on and peace, we bring our thank-offerings to the altar - the money we have, and above all, bread and wine as symbols of the gius of earth worked by human hands. In the great Prayer of Thanksgiving which follows they become, we believe, the Body and Blood of Christ, of his community and his life. We join our self-offering to his, who alone made the perfect response of love to God, asking that we may be accepted with him and in him. That acceptance is joyfully sealed in the receiving of Holy Communion. So we go out, strengthened to live our daily life to God s glory.
