Hunger Walk 2015 St. Ignatius of Antioch will participate in the annual Pittsburg/Antioch CROP Hunger Walk. A fundraising pasta dinner is scheduled for Saturday April 11 in Dominican Hall at Holy Rosary. Doors open at 6 pm and dinner is served at 6:30 pm. 100% of the ticket sales by St. Ignatius of Antioch parish will be returned to the parish to support our new emergency food program. Contact Brian at 925/ to purchase tickets. The walk itself takes place on Sunday April 19. Registration is at 2:30 and the walk begins at 3 pm. The event starts and ends at St. Andrews Lutheran Church (2507 San Jose Dr., Antioch). If you would like to join the team, just search for EAST COUNTY CROP WALK in your browser and follow the links to register for the St. Ignatius of Antioch team. 75% of the money raised at walk itself on April 19 will go to support the poverty and hunger fighting ministries of Church World Service. 25% of the money will support East County programs. Lenten Fish Fry Our Knights of Columbus are at it again. The Lenten Fish Fry Fridays are underway and will continue each Friday through March 27th We have arranged for the same wonderful cod, breaded perfectly and served fried, with our famous french fries, cole slaw and a beverage for the low cost of $14 per meal (bring in this bulletin and receive a $1 off each meal). Doors open at 4:30 pm. Dinner is served until 7:00 pm. Meals are also available at the drive-thru for take-out. For those dining in, dessert is available and Lightning Bingo takes place throughout the evening. The parish hall also feature a local brew and good wine for an additional charge. Please join us and bring a friend. We can only be successful with your help. Worldwide Marriage Encounter In the first reading it says, I will be their God, and they shall be my people. God wants to be invited into your marriage. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends are May 15-17, August 7-9 and November Early registration, four to six weeks out is highly recommended. 5 St. Ignatius of Antioch Church Page 5 Ministry, Organization and Volunteer Opportunities in our Parish & Community GOD GIVES EACH OF US UNIQUE GIFTS AND NO ONE CAN TAKE YOUR PLACE IN THE PARISH. CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING: Help with Palms needed Saturday March 26 at 9 am: Volunteers are needed to help cut, wash, dry and cut the palms in preparation for Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord Liturgies. Bring gloves and scissors (especially the gloves!) Weekly church cleaning: Volunteers are needed on Saturday mornings to clean, mop and dust the church and parish hall. Contact Steve Rojek at for more information. After-school Tutors Needed: Contra Costa Interfaith Housing (CCIH) is looking for homework club tutors at Los Medanos Village in Pittsburg. Mentors needed for St. Vincent de Paul Workforce Development Program: This program offers lifechanging job-training and personal growth for those with barriers to employment. 50% of the participants in the just completed 6 month program secured post-program employment. The program is in need of mentors. The time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours per week for 24 weeks. Parish Perspective By Peter Degl Innocenti.Pastoral Associate Another milestone has been reached in the history of our Delta Deanery. A couple of weeks ago, the second meeting of the newly expanded deanery (to include Good Shepherd in Pittsburg and Our Lady Queen of the World in Bay Point) met at Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) parish in Brentwood. The milestone feature of this meeting was that every parish was fully represented, in contrast to the first meeting held at Most Holy Rosary. To start, as I arrived and pulled into the parking lot at IHM there is a round-about as soon as you enter. Round-abouts are most common in England and Europe. They are away of circulating traffic in a continuous circle until the desired street/direction may be taken. Now, I have been to IHM many times for deanery meetings where only the clergy and a few others attended and knew where to go for those small group meetings (to the parking lot on the far right), but this would be a fairly large crowd and would we be meeting in the large hall (with its parking lot to the far left)? I was making good use of the round-about as I zipped from right to left parking lots looking for a familiar vehicle to indicate where we would be. Fr. Robert s Ford Exploder (I mean Explorer) was nowhere in sight. Just as I was completing another fast leaning 270 degree turn through the round-about, I spotted a vehicle entering from the street and recognized Fr. Roberto Corral, pastor of Most Holy Rosary, in the front seat. They veered to the left! Ah ha, it s the big hall! Cranking the wheel over hard left, I kept my SUV within the physical limits of the roundabout and followed with an immediate hard right into the lot and one final hard left to park parallel to Fr. Roberto s car. As we got out, Fr. Roberto asked, Do you always drive like that? I replied with, I can fly a lot better than I can drive. He retorted with, You drive like you re flying! As we hugged in greeting I said, It must be the Italian race car driver in my blood. We laughed and proceeded into the hall for the meeting. It was a good way to lift our spirits and know that if we can laugh at ourselves and enjoy each other s company, then we can find solutions together to the problems and needs of others that face us in common.
