2 SECOND SUNDAY OF EPIPHANY CONFIRMATIONS JANUARY 20, 2019 Procession into the Church/Praise and Worship Ministry of the Word of God The Acclamation (Stand) The Lord will pour out his Spirit upon all flesh, And your sons and daughters shall prophesy. Your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. You shall know that the Lord is in the midst of his people, that he is the Lord and there is none else. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The Collect for Purity & Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Summary of the Law Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ says: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:

3 The Confession and Absolution of Sin Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God. Silence; people sit or kneel & Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. New Testament (Sit) 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 Reader A Reading from 1 Corinthians. 1 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, Jesus be cursed, and no one can say, Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit. 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to 5

Glory to you, Lord Christ. 1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus mother said to him, They have no more wine. 4 Woman, why do you involve me? Jesus replied. My hour has not yet come. 5 His mother said to the servants, Do whatever he tells you. 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, Fill the jars with water ; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet. They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now. 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 7 Gospel Hymn The Sermon (Stand) (Sit) Nicene Creed (Stand) Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed: & We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 8 Dearly beloved, it is essential that those who wish to be Confirmed in this Church publicly confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior; become his disciples; know and affirm the Nicene Creed, the Lord s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments; and have received instruction in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and the Catechism of the Church. God s grace is imparted in baptism, through which we are made God s children by adoption and given the Holy Spirit. By the power of the Spirit, manifested in gifts and fruit, we are enabled to be God s people for the sake of the world. Now, these candidates desire publicly to confess their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and their commitment to follow him as Lord. They also desire the strengthening of grace through the laying on of hands that the Holy Spirit may fill them more and more for their ministry in the Church and in the world. The then addresses the candidates Do you, here in the presence of God and the Church, renew the solemn promises and vows made at your Baptism and commit to keep them? Do you joyfully receive the Christian Faith, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments? I do. 8

9 Candidates Will you obediently keep God s holy will and commandments, and walk in them all the days of your life? I will, the Lord being my helper. The addresses the congregation, saying Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ? Congregation responds We will. Almighty and everliving God, we beseech you to strengthen these your servants for witness and ministry through the power of your Holy Spirit. Daily increase in them your manifold virtues of grace: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and true godliness, and the spirit of holy fear, now and forever. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: The Sanctus and The Prayer of Consecration (Kneel) Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face. 15 OSL Healing Conference The Order of St. Luke is hosting a Healing Conference February 22 and 23, 2019, here at Transformation Anglican Church. It will be led by Dr. Jack Sheffield and his wife, Anna Marie. Registration for this conference is available on our website, or you may find forms in the narthex. We look forward to a great group participating from our TAC family. While OSL is busy making plans and getting things in order, we could also use your help in this fantastic opportunity. We need your prayers for the success of the conference; for the health and safety of Jack and Anna Marie, including travel mercies as they drive in from San Antonio; and for the weather as the conference is in February. We can also use your assistance in the set up and take down of tables and chairs, as well as the prep, serving, and clean-up of snack foods. Please pray about how the Lord would have you assist. You do not need to be a member of OSL; this conference will benefit all in the church. Perhaps you feel led to furnish bottled water or soda for this event.
