2 St. Mary and St. Francis Xavier News Being Mute Like Zechariah By: Kristina M. DeNeve Evangelization and Welcoming Director, Diocese of Green Bay I love Catholic Sacraments; the Real Presence is important to my faith. Therefore, I am deeply concerned when we Catholics (usually unintentionally) talk about Eucharist and the Real Presence in a way that divides rather than unites. We are being divisive when we belittle nondenominational Christians who pass around little cups of juice. We are divisive when we forget that many Protestant denominations also believe in the Real Presence. Divisive when we tell our less active Catholic brothers and sisters that they just need to try harder if they don t understand and/or believe in the Real Presence. Know that I am in no way questioning Catholic doctrine. Indeed, it is our doctrine that tells me that Eucharist is first, foremost and always a unitive Sacrament. Jesus unites himself to us and we unite ourselves to one another. That we cannot share Eucharist with non-catholics is a reality that demands our grief. Yes, let s be proud of this special, life-giving gift. But, we disrespect this holy Sacrament of union when we use it to feel superior to others. June Baptism Preparation Class The next preparation class for infant baptism will be Wednesday, June 27, 6:30-8:30pm. Parents are urged to attend this session early in their pregnancy when they have more time to reflect and prepare for their child s baptism. Please call the Parish Office to sign up for class and to schedule your child s baptism. Farewell to Fr. Patrick Beno We have had the wonderful gift of Fr. Patrick for the past 2 years and now it s time for him to move on. Join us in showing our appreciation for all he has done for us and wish him all the best at his new parish, St. Agnes, Green Bay. Cookies, cake, coffee and punch will be served on... St. Mary: Sunday, June 24 9:00am - 10:00am - Fr. Hietpas Social Hall St. Francis: Sunday, July 1 10:00am - 11:00am - Fr. Dolski Center Are we Missing Anyone? If you are in the hospital and want the pastoral staff to visit, please let the hospital staff know that you wish to receive visits from your church. In the event the hospital does not call us, feel free to contact the Parish Office at or and request a visit, or have a relative or friend call for you. In case of an emergency where a priest is needed immediately, please call the emergency number ( ). $crip Helpers Needed Volunteers are needed to sell $crip after all Masses at St. Mary. July O Brien Rd., Baileys Harbor, WI In years past, you ve experienced Catholic Youth Expeditions during one of our Family Expeditions in the summer. It s been a BLAST, to pray and to just have fun with so many families. This year you are personally invited to Catholic Fest 2012! Catholic Youth Expeditions 10 year anniversary celebrating the GOOD, the TRUE, and the BEAUTIFUL through music, film, literature, and art in Door County, WI. This family-friendly celebration will be very similar to a traditional family expedition and is always open to teens and young adults. It is a camping event, just like other family expeditions, but there will be Catholic musicians in concert, as well as authors, artists, and film makers to present their talents and talk about how their faith shines through their craft! For more information check out the website at: www. cyexpeditions.org/catholicfest.htm. To the Notre Dame School Families, thank you, for the wonderful retirement gift. I will put it to good use! It has been a pleasure working at Notre Dame School for the past 35 years. I enjoyed the children both in the cafeteria and on the playground. I started 35 years ago watching the children on the playground when my son was in first grade. Then I moved to helping in the cafeteria 2 hours a day. Then, 20 years ago I became the baker. It was a joy and a lot of fun. Now comes the time to enjoy my grandchildren, and volunteer at my parish. I wish everyone best of luck in school next year and I m sure I will see some of you in the future. Thanks again. Mary Van Dyck
