2 From Our Pastor Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb...but Mary stood weeping outside the tomb...jesus said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for? Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus said to her, Mary! She turned and said to him in Hebrew, Rabbouni! (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her,...go to my brothers and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, I have seen the Lord ; and she told them that he had said these things to her. John 20:1-18 Finally, Easter is here! Finally, we can celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ! Finally, God shows us and the world that His Beloved Son Jesus is not dead, that no tomb could hold him, that no sin could vanquish him! Finally, we can shout our Alleluias! Finally, we can live the new life our salvation gives to us. It seemed as if it was going to take forever to get here. The 40 Lenten days in the wilderness seemed to drag on and on. We were living in darkness, living without, living in sorrow for our sins, living in sackcloth and ashes of our repentant souls. It seemed as if we were never going to be free, to be able to step out into the light, to place our feet onto the promised land of new life, to be the butterfly leaving the cocoon, the rose unfolding its petals, the baby chick hatched, the lamb newly born. Along the way, we became impatient, hungry, maybe even resentful of the demands of Lent, but isn t it all worth it? Lent is such an awesome journey because it ends when our sins die with Jesus on his cross and we get to rid ourselves of some of what within us holds us back from loving and trusting God, following Christ, and living an abundant life in his name and to his glory. So let us revel in the grace of forgiveness, the love of God in sacrificing His only Son, Jesus for our salvation. Let us embrace the new creatures God has made us in Christ. Let us embrace anew Christ s command to follow him. Let us embrace afresh faith given to us by the Holy Spirit. Let us embrace trusting God with everything about our life. Let us embrace the steadfast love of God. Let us embrace Easter freedom bought with blood and body. Let us embrace life everlasting. Let us remember it is Christ who said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. So that all the more we may be obedient to the command of Christ to Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Blessed day of grace, Happy Easter! Pastor Kathy Mary Magdalene In the garden With the risen Christ Page 2

3 LUTHERAN DAY AT THE CAPITOL MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2015 TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, CAMP HILL 9:00 AM TO 4 PM Bring your faith to the table, and join Lutherans from all around the state for worship, learning, advocacy, and action. Lutheran Day at the Capitol this year will focus on our baptismal call to ministry in the public square, and the unique voice of Lutheran Christians addressing hunger and poverty. The day will include worship, a keynote address, legislative briefing, and visit training as well as workshops, and food continental breakfast and lunch. Come and be inspired, prepared, and equipped to act on issues that matter. Registration fee is $30 and can be done on line with payment by mailed in check, on line PAY- PAL, or at the door. YOU MUST BE PRE- REGISTERED by April 20th. Go to: and look for EVENTS, click on this, then look for Spring 2015 Academy Week, click on this and look on Monday schedule for the link to register for this event. The direct registration website is: There is ample parking at Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, and shuttle buses will take us over to the Capitol for our visitation with legislators. We have a great opportunity on this day to join with Lutherans from all over the Synod to see exactly how some of our benevolence to the Synod gets used in ways that support our Lutheran beliefs and presence here in Central Pennsylvania. As part of my continuing education, I will be attending this one-day event, so please come and join me, it would be a great day to share with you. In Christ, Pastor Kathy A Special Appeal for New Hope When council was preparing the 2015 budget, we tried to balance the expenses to our projected offerings. We looked to reduce budgeted expenses in the different categories including Benevolence. In 2014, we budgeted for a donation to New Hope of $2,200. For 2015, we reduced that to $1,000. We are asking you to help make up the difference. We need just $100 per month to make up the deficit. There is already one member who has been making regular contributions to New Hope through their offering envelope. Would you consider making a small donation to New Hope once a month? Just mark a line on your envelope for New Hope. Make checks out to Shiloh Lutheran. There is a thermometer on the bulletin board where we will be keeping track. I know that we already ask you for food and toiletries, but New Hope s ministry is very important to the community. Please support this ministry in any way you can. Janet Smith, Treasurer Page 3

4 Thank you for your generosity during February. We collected 54 pounds of toiletries and 31 pounds of food. The need continues to grow. Each week we get a few new clients. Please remember New Hope when you shop each week. For those of you who have been donating extra egg cartons, we do not need them at this time. We are currently getting our eggs already packed in cartons. I will let you know if that changes. Scholarship program: If your family qualifies as low income and you are struggling to afford college or trade school, and are planning to go to college or trade school in 2015/2016, you are invited to apply. Both adults and youth are eligible. Applications are available at the New Hope offices or on the website. Thank you for helping to pick up the slack in our budget for New Hope. As of March 12, we have received an additional $ for support of New Hope Ministries.. Walk for Hope will be held April 19 at Ketterman Park on Butter Road. Although we do not currently have a confirmation class, any youth or adults who would like to walk can either contact Janet Smith or register online at Click EVENTS to be directed to the fundraising webpage. 6 Finance report: By now you have received a letter from the Finance Committee detailing our poor financial situation. Cold weather and ill-timed snowfall combined to put our savings account in the hole. In January we had to transfer $3,500 from our savings account to the checking account to cover expenses. In February, we had to transfer another $5,000 to cover our quarterly taxes and other expenses. That is more than we transferred in all of We budgeted for $28,215 of income for January and February. We received just $22,826. Our budget for expenses was $29,735. We actually spent $35, The largest expenses were for heating and snow removal. On March 8, we had beautiful weather and we had good attendance that week and the offering was above normal. I pray that by the end of March, with continued good weather, and five Sundays, we will be back on track and will start running a surplus so we do not need to do any more transfers the rest of the year. expenses actual budgeted income Continue to pray for the Church and support it s ministries with both your finances and your time. Geranium Sale Get ready for Spring planting! The Auxiliary to Lutheran Social Services York Center will hold its annual geranium sale in April. Red and salmon colors are available.
