To make a request please contact Father Lukee or Cheryl, call the parish office at or or drop a note in collection basket at any of our parishes. Please note that even when requested, hospitals do not always contact the parish and if they do it is still the responsibility of a family member to give us permission to mention their name in our prayer requests. Also, please let us know when prayer requests are no longer needed. WEDDINGS - If you are planning a wedding, please call the parish office to set up an appointment with Father Lukee. You need to meet with Father to set a date. Arrangements should be made at least six months in advance. BAPTISMS - If this is your first child you are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class. If you have other children and it has been more than two years since you attended a class, you will need to attend class again. The next class will be held September 8th at St. Thomas. Baptisms can be scheduled ANY Saturday at St. Kilian or Sunday at St. Thomas or St. Joseph. Call Cheryl Maricque at for further information.

Paul has decided to step down as the janitor at St. Thomas the Apostle church and has graciously provided the blessing of time to fill the janitor s role (filling the role sooner is his preference). We appreciate your dedication as well as countless donated hours! Thankfully Paul intends to stay with our community to share hospitality at St. Thomas the Apostle through social activities such coffee and donuts, pancake porkie breakfasts, potlucks like the upcoming Our Lady of Peñafrancia (on Friday September 14 th ) as well as Good Stewards activities. Please help St. Thomas the Apostle parish get the word out for this ministry and employment opportunity for either finding a replacement for the entire janitorial duties (10+ hours performing repairs and cleaning the church) or perhaps two people splitting the duties of cleaning and handywork. Also note that St. Thomas the Apostle is in need of volunteers to perform church repairs (and someone willing to coordinate repair scheduling). Thank you. If you are thinking about becoming a volunteer and will have contact with children, young people, or individuals at risk you MUST attend a VIRTUS session. A session will be held on Tuesday, September 25th at 6:00PM at St. Thomas the Apostle social hall. Bible Time takes place during St. Joseph s 9:00AM Mass and St. Thomas 10:30 Mass. Bible Time is for 3-5 year olds to learn about the stories in the Bible by enjoying a story, doing a craft, and singing songs! You can pick up a registration form and calendar at either church. 3 23rd Sunday of Ordinary Time (B) 2018 (Isaiah 35:4-7a. Psalm 146:7-10. James 2:1-5. Mark 7:31-37) In the Gospel, Jesus opens the ears of a deaf man. Mark records the healing word in the native language of Jesus. With the word Ephphatha, Jesus heals the deaf man and consequently restores his speech. As he hears sounds, he can now imitate them and therefore can speak. Jesus shows His power when He entertains people bringing Him this man with disability. This miracle is a sign that the Kingdom of God has come. Notice that the deaf man does not go by himself to ask for healing. The people bring him to Jesus. This is an example of vicarious faith. One is healed because of the faith of other people. Their faith is not just for themselves, but also for others who need help. In the Second Reading, James affirms that God takes care of the less fortunate. He denounces those who discriminate persons with disability. In our celebrations, let us be careful not to drive away the poor, the less fortunate, the disabled, the elderly from the seats to give way to the rich and able. Let us open our ears and lips for them. Let us use our beautiful language in their favor. Fr.
