Green Bay, Wisconsin (920) June 24 & 25, 2017 Love Begins Here-Middle School June 11-14, 2017 There were 16 students and 5 adults that represented St. Bernard Parish at the first ever middle school Love Begins Here Service Camp in the Diocese of Green Bay. This summer, there are 5 camps total, including 3 high school and 2 middle school ones and St. Bernard Parish was the host parish for this middle school camp. This means we were able to serve the needs of many of our own parishioners. If we were able to help you in anyway, thank you!! The mission of Love Begins Here Service Camp is to do small things with great love and we hope to continue to live that mission even after our camp. In 2 weeks, we will be taking 13 high school students to the Love Begins Here Camp at St. Joseph Parish on the West Side of Green Bay. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to serve. Your Financial Stewardship For the week ended June 18, 2017 Weekly Envelopes..$ 16, Offertory Loose... $ 1, Debt Collection... $ 12, Weekly Joyful Giving Budget... $ 21, Balance of Debt on building addition $45,190 From June 21 until July 4, the Church in America is asked to prayerfully participate in the Fortnight for Freedom, a two week time of prayer, fasting and petition to protect the Church from laws which inhibit her ability to live her mission. Our government currently cripples or disables the Church from fully living her mission to serve the vulnerable and poor and to proclaim the Gospel. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops offers a number of areas where prayer, fasting and petition are needed to change the government s current restrictions on the Church and change the growing hostile cultural attitude. Here are a few thoughts from the usccb.org site: Freedom to Witness to the Truth: The Holy Spirit gives us the courage to bear witness to the truth of the Gospel, even in the face of social and legal pressure. We must stand up for the civil right to be free from government coercion. At the same time, we Christians must be mindful that our freedom comes from Christ, and so we are always free when we remain in Christ. When a government attempts to force us to violate our consciences, we must witness to the truth. A state that coerces the conscience of its citizens radically oversteps its proper boundaries. Rather than resist as a revolutionary, the Christian bears patient witness to the truth, even if that witness leads to punishment. The martyrs are great examples of this. The key to martyrdom is witness to truth. In this respect, we are all called to be martyrs. Start speaking up today! Reflect on how to respectfully engage in conversation about religious freedom. Share with others why religious freedom is good for all people. Freedom to Care for the Sick: Acts of healing were central to the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ. He restored sight to the blind, made the lame to walk, and cured leprosy. These miracles revealed that Jesus has come to restore the broken areas of this fallen world. The ministry of healing has continued in the Church. Christians have developed healthcare ministries dedicated to the study and practice of medicine. Indeed, the Catholic Church invented the hospital as we know it. Catholic hospitals today are often attacked for not performing abortions and other harmful procedures. Catholic medical professionals have been forced to violate their consciences and participate in abortions. Catholics serve in healing ministries out of fidelity to Jesus Christ. It is unthinkable that we would undermine our mission to heal by destroying innocent life and harming the persons for whom we are called to care. Concerned Catholics can help by contacting their representatives in Congress and voicing support for conscience protection. Check out Human Life Action and the USCCB Action Alert Center for updates on bills like Conscience Protection Act (H.R. 644 / S. 301) and the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 7 / S. 184). Thanks for your support of the fundraiser. The Catholic Charities Department of the Diocese of Green Bay holds an annual golf outing. The outing this year was held on June 6 at Thornberry Golf Course. A team representing St. Bernard Parish, put together by Deacon Larry Mastalish won 1st place in the tournament and was presented with the Catholic Charities 1st Traveling Tropy for winning the event. The St. Bernard Team consisted of Deacon Larry, son-in-law, Bob Sarosiek, grandson, Alex Mastalish and friend, Ray Krusic. In winning the event, in addition to receiving the Traveling Trophy, Catholic Charities is donating $200 to a charitable organization selected by St. Bernard.
