Date: Saturday, September 27th, 2014 THIS TPA POTLUCK & PROGRAM is ONLY OPEN to CURRENT and PAST TPA MEMBERS and SUPPORTERS of TPA SYRACUSE! THIS SPECIAL TPA PROGRAM will address a 20- question questionnaire put together by 8 TPA members over this summer. Many hours have been spent on compiling data and constructing this questionnaire. DRUM CIRCLE led by MIKE DERMODY will follow TPA member meeting. This part of the evening is from 8-10:00 pm and is FREE & OPEN to TPA members and friends. Bring your DRUM / Rattles / "Creative Instruments" that will blend in... Thank YOU! Sue Savion, Flo Di Pietro, Debbie Pillsbury, John & Joanne Verone and Nancy and Dale Gallagher have met several times this summer to talk about making TPA meetings better and more inclusive of members / attendees desires and needs. Read/go through questionnaire and become better prepared to discuss and answer it at this meeting. The TPA potluck will be from 6:00-6:45 and the QUESTIONNAIRE will be addressed from 6:45-8:00 pm PLEASE, if you cannot attend this meeting, consider filling out this questionnaire and mailing it to our hosts, Dale & Nancy Gallagher, our September hosts and evening facilitators. 2 [September 27th Program description continued.] Mike Dermody September 27, 2014 TPA Drumming Gift - 8:15-9:45 Mike Dermody was born and raised in Syracuse and is in his second year drumming. He fell in love as soon as he sat down and put his hand on the djembe. He attended a Jim Donovan workshop about 1.5 years ago and really became enchanted. Since then he has attended a "Sound Empowerment" and "Drum Facilitation" training session with Jim Donovan and has been trying to spread to others the positive effects he feels when he drums. He feels that drumming has truly brought some creativeness back into his life. Mike has been drumming at Willow Bay every weekend. Just pick the best weather day and you ll find us there from 12:00 to 2:00 He has also been getting a Drum Circle going at LeMoyne College since January, He says, This fall we are rocking and it looks like we may tie into the dancers and do some dance and drum for their performance at the end of the semester. To sum that up... Mike is a computer programmer who fell in love with drumming and has taken facilitation training so that he can lead drum circles. Mike has found such positive and profound both long and short term affects / effects from drumming that he hopes to spread them to CNY by creating a safe and inviting environment where people can come and have fun. Mike has also led team building sessions using drumming and chanting as tools to help teams relax and have fun. Several TPA members experienced Mike s inspiring drumming facilitation at Pam and Lou Rosati s home this summer. We are grateful that Mike has accepted our invitation to share his love of drumming with us. Come and experience Mike s TPA gift to us at our upcoming Saturday, September 27. meeting. 5 We Need Our Subtle Power Deepak Chopra To successfully navigate the other side means mastering the powers that are needed there. If the other side isn t merely an imitation of this side, those powers must be different from willpower, physical strength, and the other familiar supports of life in the material world. Yet our subtle powers, being part of ourselves, can t be totally foreign, either. For most of us our primary world is physical, of course, but we are using subtle powers all the time, and these may support us in the afterlife. If the rishis are correct in saying that everyone inhabits the Akashic field, both in life and after death, then subtle powers of consciousness unite both. The powers you need are: SELF-AWARENESS: The power to know yourself. This power keeps you centered. WILLINGNESS: The power to open your mind. This power allows reality to be seen despite old conditioning and beliefs. INTENTION: The power to manifest desires. This power connects you with your purpose. DISCRIMINATION: The power to make fine distinctions. This power guides you in the subtleties of understanding. ACCEPTANCE: the power of nonresistance. This power enables you to integrate reality into yourself. To truly know something as deep as what happens after death, your mind must call upon these powers. That s the only thing, really, separating us from the Vedic rishis: they used their subtle powers to the fullest; we call on them to a much lesser degree. We are postponing the soul journey until we die. Yet our subtle powers are needed every day for ourselves and for those relationships that expand our horizons. Substitute the word soul for relationship. All the things that make a relationship work apply to your soul. Those skills will be crucial if the afterlife brings you into the soul s domain, as every spiritual tradition says it does. I spent much of the summer putting the finishing touches on this book about Matilda Joslyn Gage, our local feminist heroine. The book consists of wise and passionate words from Matilda, who lived in Fayetteville for much of her life. Each page contains a quote from her as well as biographical information about this fascinating suffragist, abolitionist, and champion of rights for Native Americans and any one else oppressed by government. She was the mother-inlaw of L. Frank Baum, and was the inspiration behind his 14 Oz books. She was part of the triumvirate of Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, but when she also decided to take on the church, she was deemed too radical by her contemporaries and written out of history. A boat ride down the St. Lawrence River with a stop at the newly refurbished and very beautiful Boldt Castle was a highlight of the trip. Oh, yes and there were pirates, too!..have you heard the news about former member and Dream Team collaborator Georgia Cunningham who moved away to the Aurora area? She got married a few weeks ago to her soul mate and fellow author and is now happily Mrs. Warren. Her new husband, David, says: It is all your fault Josiah Booknoodle!! Congratulations, Georgia!.Sadly, we are losing another TPA member, Chris Kelley. She is moving to Florida soon to pursue a new career..thomas Gallagher, Nancy and Dale s son, created this poster advertising the huge Peoples Climate Rally in NYC. Organized by Bill McKibben s 350.org and over a 1000 other groups, hundreds of thousands of people are gathering on September 21st to march. Leaders from all over the world will be discussing what to do about Climate Change at the U.N. all that week. Sue Savion and Nancy and Dale Gallagher will be among the people on at least 3 buses traveling from Syracuse for the rally....lee Varella won t be present at our upcoming meeting, but she has a REALLY good excuse. On that weekend she will be in a Polarity workshop. Last week she was in NY city attending a wonderful seminar sponsored by Hay'House called " I Can Do It!" Among its speakers were Dwayne Dyer, Carolyn Myss (archetypes), Dr. Christiane Northrup, Nick Orner (EFT), John Holland (psychic medium), Doreen Virtue (angels) and more. Perhaps you too will want to REGISTER for GLOBAL ONENESS DAY Scientists, notables and common citizens are sharing we are all connected, we are all One, however we are not living that way.
