Pele and the Huna Traditions of Hawaii Susan Savion Sue Savion recently did research at Hawaii's Mauna Loa National Volcano Park, said to be the home of the Volcano Goddess Pele in the Hawaiian Religion. She has also explored more deeply the Huna Tradition and this will be explained in some detail with a power point presentation. Learn the myths and stories surrounding Pele, her sisters and brothers and a pantheon of other gods and goddesses. (Did you know that Pele's beautiful baby sister Hi'iakakikapoliopele was hatched from an egg that Pele carefully watched over?) The culture is rich and extensive. It includes chants, creation stories, interaction with Hawaiian kings, princesses and other mortals, "How It Came to Be," stories and archetypes with fascinating "back stories." 2 Huna The shamanic traditions of Hawaii are complex and varied. There seem to be multiple paths within it some originating from Tahiti and other Pacific islands - and others originating from places further removed. In the oral tradition of one of the strains of the shamanic traditions found in Hawaii, there is an important story. Max Freedom Long reports this story in his writings based on his research in the Hawaiian Islands in the early 1900's. It is Long who named this tradition "Huna." This is not a name most Hawaiian shamanic practitioners call their practice. Long linked Huna to Theosophy and New Thought movements of the time. He wrote that the Christian Scientists understood positive thinking better than any group he knew, and encouraged his readers to subscribe to Unity Church s magazine, Daily Word. It later evolved and became associated with New Age thinking. Researcher Serge King claimed that Huna came originally from aliens from the Pleiades who were remnants of the mythical advanced civilizations of Mu or Lemuria and Pila Chiles associating the islands with chakras, vortexes and lay lines. This is because this practice did not originate in the Hawaiian Islands. The oral tradition of Huna indicates that the wisdom held in this strain of knowledge probably originated in North Africa. There is another wisdom tradition in North Africa, that of the Berber people who have lived in isolation for many years in the Atlas Mountains. The Berbers have the identical oral tradition as the one reported to Long. The story is told that long ago, a group of wisdom keepers foresaw dark times coming for humanity. They determined to leave the place where they were, near the "Red Sea of Kane." This is a place name that appears identically in both traditions. And both traditions speak of the wisdom keepers removing the wisdom for safekeeping in isolated places. There are linguistic traces across Africa, through India and the Pacific for the secret words related to wisdom and spirituality. The words for 'God', 'the practitioners of secrets', and their 'power' are identical in the ceremonial languages of cultures along this route. It is likely the wisdom keepers who brought the wisdom to Hawaii for safekeeping followed this route. These ancient learnings have been held safe here for many hundreds of years. This wisdom tradition focuses on the true nature of the human being. It is a complex psychological study. It speaks to the way that humans are defined and the way they define themselves. It has almost nothing to do with the oral histories of warfare and human sacrifice that characterize other Hawaiian strains of shamanic practice. The Huna tradition of Hawaii is a shamanic tradition with roots far deeper than the Pacific Islands. It is a window into a much more ancient wisdom - one that flows beneath all shamanic and spiritual traditions. Like flowers blooming on the same vine, spiritual traditions draw from a similar source. Just as each flower is unique, each culture is unique in the way that it expresses and preserves specific aspects of this underlying body of knowledge. The Huna tradition offers a rare perspective of this source and a glimpse into the ancient oral traditions that have existed from the beginning of humankind. 3 ACCEPT NO LIMITS by Jenny Manion The greatest lesson I have learned is that we are truly unlimited beings. It seems easy to believe all that we have been told, Life is hard, You have to work hard and sacrifice to get ahead, Life sucks then you die but none of these hold any truth with our soul. When you connect with yourself truly and deeply, life flows and can seem magical. WE are the ones causing our own limitations. In hearing and getting to know the true us, our soul, we become limitless. Learning to love and forgive ourselves for acting from what we knew up until that point is key. Not blaming others but noticing the effect our mind has had on our life up until NOW makes a difference. A key ingredient for creating an easy and in flow life is self love. We are truly mirrors reflecting how we feel we deserve to be treated to the world. We cannot live from what others have told us we are or limited beliefs of what we can be and all we cannot do. We all have the power to fall in love with ourselves for who we are at the deepest level and also to recreate those patterns and behaviors that have not served us. Remember to treat yourself as kindly as you would a close friend that would come to you for help. We need to turn off the noise to hear our soul and connect within. Go 20 minutes without your cell phone, computer, MP3 players, and TV s. Put your hand on your heart and ask yourself what you re grateful to yourself for. What gifts do you have that you would like to honor more: drawing, cooking, dancing, writing, making people laugh? Ask your inner self to release any limitation you may have and ask for guidance on how to take one step today toward inner peace and flow. There are no limits. I was ill for over six years and was told I WOULD be in a wheelchair. I was listening to what many doctors were telling me but I was NOT listening to myself. I began being grateful for what I had and forgiving myself for whatever pained me enough in my life that my body had to create dis-ease to cope. I began to show myself love when I had made up plenty of reasons of why I was not good enough and how guilty I felt for losing so many years of my life. My life changed to one with no pain or dis-ease. We ALL have that power. I truly feel we are ALL healers and it begins with healing ourselves. Go within, be grateful, forgive, find tools that work for you to feel empowered and learn to love yourself. Your soul is waiting to empower you and take you to a new reality you never imagined possible. We are truly limitless and once you begin to tap into your true inner power you will never look back. 4 Elevate The US Election Synchronized Meditation This is a MAJOR call to action - a way to peacefully and prayerfully encourage everyone running for US President to focus on bringing us closer together rather than pushing us further apart. Whether you live in the US or another country, you are probably worried about the division, anger and hatred being expressed in many elections around the world. Here in the United States this division has been especially profound. It doesn t matter who you support in the election for US President (this is not in any way intended to sway you one direction or another), but I m sure you agree that promoting love over fear, and compassion over anger is of primary importance right now. There are four parts of this important Peace Action: 1. If you live in or near the US and feel called to express your energy peacefully and prayerfully at a political rally, please make or buy a T-shirt that says Meditating For Peace, then find a rally and attend with a group of others. (It doesn t matter if it s a Donald Trump rally, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, or any other candidate.) NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS do not respond with anything but peace. This is in direct imitation of the Gandhi s Ahimsa Movement, one of the most liberating peace actions of our time. If you do decide to join a rally, LET US KNOW WHEN AND WHERE. We will publicize and mobilize our Synchronized Meditation Community to join you energetically. There will be hundreds and even thousands of people holding space while you sit in silence at the rally you choose. 2. We will forward lists of peace meditations that take place at various rallies, and we ask that you energetically join the people who are brave enough to be there physically. This is key to building the energy of this movement. It isn t just about the people attending the rallies, but the thousands of people meditating behind them. This is what will bring about the Miracle. 3. I will be at a Donald Trump rally with a group of meditators on March 21st. As soon as we know exactly where, we will send an alert. If you live in that area, then we hope you will join us at the rally. If you do not, then we hope millions of people will join us on that day in prayerful meditation. 4. This is, perhaps, the most important on the list ~ SHARE THIS AND VIDEO FAR AND WIDE. If we are to have the dramatic impact we hope to have, this needs to be a MOVEMENT, not a ripple. We hope that thousands of people show up at political rallies wearing the shirt and meditating, and not just in the US. Most countries today have politicians and elections that are revealing the dark underbelly of judgment and fear. We need to be as radical in our love as they are in their hatred. This is your chance to make a difference. I hear from people every day who are discouraged by the rhetoric taking place in the Presidential election, but most don t feel there s anything they can do to help. THIS IS IT! Whether you attend a rally yourself, or join in prayer when other people are physically present, your role is so important. Page 4

6 .Martin Otto: Report on Presentation by Martin Otto at the TPA meeting on February 20, 2016 First of all, I want to thank all those who were present at the presentation last month. The idea for the presentation was born at the beginning of 2015, shortly after I began attending the TPA meetings. For a period of about 6 weeks, I had been receiving words from Jesus and Mary during my daily mediations. When I shared these words with Nancy and Dale, they thought it would be an interesting subject for a presentation. I was born into a conservative Christian family and had developed a very close relationship with Jesus at an early age. It is my firm belief that the Jesus to whom I dedicated my life as a young child has brought me to the point where today I understand that religion, including Christianity, only presents a limited human understanding of Source. The words I received from Jesus and Mary contradict much of the teachings I once believed to be true. They emphasize over and over that God does not judge us and that we are all co-creators on this journey on earth. But neither do they condemn those who teach and believe differently, including those who have misinterpreted Jesus original intent. The reason I have been able to abandon many of the teachings of my childhood is because my faith in God and Jesus, as a Master sent from Source, was strong. This faith has allowed me to take many bold steps in life. So I decided to include my own personal journey of faith that led up to the receiving of these words from Jesus and Mary in the presentation. I shared one of the many miraculous answers to prayer that I have experienced. I also shared some of the teachings that appeared in my life at the right time, such as Ask and It is Given by Abraham-Hicks. I concluded the presentation with a brief overview of my book Eight Secrets to Answered Prayer. 7 From Dale and Nancy Gallagher: Often at TPA meetings we are asked what TPA is about, where we ve been, what we ve done and what is happening next for us. Here s a quick view into some of our process, what it has been and what it may be right now. This is also an invitation that YOU join with us and help us further to cocreate, codiscover and co-celebrate WHAT WE MAY BE. TPA Syracuse 2016 is a vibrant, co-creative PROCESS in MOTION which began as the cocreation of the Syracuse Chapter Community of the Association of Humanistic Psychology in 1979 with Co-convenors Dale and Nancy Gallagher who along with Dr. Jack R. Gibb, asked the question: What would we be like if we were more trusting? AHP Syracuse later emerged into the Transpersonal Psychology Association of Syracuse through the work and dedication of Ken Dowd. Today, TPA meets on the third Saturday of the month (usually), from September to June and engages in humanistic, transpersonal and quantum psychology with the awareness that everyone and everything is connected in human consciousness. The fundamental difference between humanistic and transpersonal psychology is difficult to define because many of their goals overlap. A, perhaps,too simplistic explanation is this: humanistic psychology sees its highest goal as understanding and developing the potential of the human being, often in existentialist and phenomenological terms, while transpersonal psychology takes a more universal, even religious, perspective, and seeks to see beyond the individual to a more inclusive, spiritual realm of being that includes altered states of consciousness and much more. Abraham Maslow and his colleagues who had introduced the idea of AHP - Association of Humanistic Psychology (1959) as the third force, following behaviorism and psychotherapy (forces number one and two), also founded ATP - Association of Transpersonal Psychology (1969) as the fourth force that reached beyond the original three into more transcendent experiences and metaphysics. Both AHP and ATP, since conception, have offered us fascinating and interesting periodic Journals. Often AHP and ATP collaborate in their work. HUMANISTIC PSYCHOLOGY aims to be faithful to the full range of human experience. It s foundations include philosophical humanism, existentialism and phenomenology. In the science and profession of psychology, humanistic psychology seeks to develop systematic and rigorous methods of studying human beings, and to heal the fragmentary character of contemporary psychology through an ever more comprehensive and integrative approach. TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY is concerned with the study of humanity's highest potential, and with the recognition, understanding, and realization of unitive, spiritual, and transcendent states of consciousness. QUANTUM PSYCHOLOGY (1990) is interacting with others in spite of different points of view. It is a new way of looking at the human mind that applies the logic of quantum physics. In quantum physics, one of the main principles is something known as the observer effect. While the mathematics and science behind the observer effect is extremely complex, it can be boiled down at its most simple to say the observer affects the outcome. It can help us understand and change how we see the world. Page 7

8 TRANSPERSONAL QUANTUM PSYCHOLOGY (2010) is research to contribute to human development, in psychological and spiritual aspects, all summarized, in order to generate a quantum leap in the evolution of human consciousness. His thrust is to stop Common Core and Opt Out of state tests. I d like you to know that although John did not get elected, it s my believe that, John is a pussycat at heart but a LION in the arena and if anyone can make a difference, he can! A person s voice is used as a sound print. This method could be used as the medication of the future. Another guest speaker, C.F. Ka ai, is the author of The Peacegivers: Hawaiians, Masters of Light. (This book will be quoted in Sue Savion s presentation at our next meeting.) Nick even got to swim with wild dolphins and experience them as energetic beings. You cannot look at that which you do not want and not join and perpetuate that vibration. Take your attention from that which is not in harmony with who you are, and your "now vibration" will adjust to who you really are and then you can uplift others ---Abraham Page 8

9 Sue in Hawaii on top of Mauna Kea...Michelle Frankel is going to Santa Fe for 7 weeks to study pottery at Santa Fe Clay. She says, I will also be checking out a co-housing community in Albuquerque. I ll be staying at an adobe house using AirB&B. Hope to do some traveling around the southwest. I love New Mexico, as I lived there in the 70 s. It will be great to be back....warm welcome to Annette and her friend Canice Paliotta who traveled 90 minutes to attend our February TPA meeting. Jo Anne finds it interesting that. on a trip through Germany several years ago, Sue Savion, Aziz Goksel and she were there at the Munich Opera House, where Wagner's opera was presented for the first time,......she is also excited to have been appointed to the citizen oversight committee for the Justice Center, under the direction of Barry Gewanter, who is the new Human Rights Commissioner for Onondaga County.
