With the increasing cost of health care and other basic necessities, a priest s pension covers daily living expenses but not much else. The Priests Retirement Fund supports those in need of supplementary assistance by paying for expense such as non-insured medical costs, a portion of extended care costs and housing costs associated with independent living. As the priests of the Archdiocese have served us for over 150 years, this collection allows us to serve them by providing for their needs after active ministry. FAZtor s Notes By: Fr. Arnold Zamora This weekend at the Sunday 9:30AM Mass, we celebrate our Spirit Mass for our School where we will introduce our teachers, both from our Elementary school and Preschool, to our parish community. We will have a special prayer for them also. I wish to welcome the new parents, as well as our returning parents and their children, to this special Mass and to our community. Right after the Mass is the International Food Fair at the school gym, also called Ryan Hall. So, after the food from the table of the Lord, comes food from all over the world. If you happen to be at the gym you might notice the floor covering. It is because we are in the middle of refurbishing the gym floor. Thanks to the initiative of Greg Syler and Aaron Leone, we will soon see a bright shining gym floor, although we still need to raise the funds to cover the expenses. A Wine Tasting event on October 20 th in the Flanagan Hall will be held for that purpose. We hope you will support this project. It seems that the work doesn t stop here at Holy Name. There is always something that needs to be dealt with. Some work is unexpected, some is immediate and necessary, and more than a few projects are quite overdue. I know I still have a lot of these other projects on my mind. We thank two great men of the parish (who wish to remain anonymous) for being on top of the plumbing issues in our school bathrooms. These guys work endlessly, and all they ask for is our prayers. We apologize for any inconvenience that this work might have caused you. Like our journey in life, we deal with a lot of inconveniences. Yet we look forward to the end result, which is the brighter side of the whole picture. For any bad thing that happens in our life, there is always good that comes from it. When there is bad news, there is always good news. A guy is in the hospital with two broken legs. The nurse comes in and tells him that there's good news and bad news. The guy asks for the bad news first. The nurse says, "We may to have to remove your legs." Then the guy asks for the good news. The nurse says, "The guy beside you wants to buy your sneakers." HN CLASS REUNION Holy Name Class of 1982 will be having their 30th Reunion on Saturday, September 22, 2012 following the 5pm Mass in the Flanagan Center. For more details please contact: Marialina Fiumara jandmsheeran@aol.com or Sandy Caniglia sandy_baldonado@yahoo.com IT S ALL ABOUT CONTROL From toddlerhood to old age, we grow in mastery of our own lives, our bodies, and our destiny. This mastery is hard won, and we don t let go of autonomy easily. Much of this self-mastery involves the avoidance of pain or discomfort, so when we hear things like take up your cross and lose your life, we tend to resist the message. James says that faith without works is dead. It is very hard for us to give up control, but what we are being asked to do is to allow God to direct where our self-mastery will lead and what it will accomplish. We are asked to relinquish the need to control the results of our efforts; to risk, as Jesus did, the loss of everything we are working to achieve. We are asked to let God take the lead and to control the results, even though we may never see those results. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
