The Service of Worship Palm Sunday March 25, 2018-11:00 a.m. A Call to Quiet Meditation The congregation is asked to observe a time of silence during the prelude in preparing our hearts and minds for worship. Prelude Tell Me the Stories of Jesus arr. Mary McDonald Chiming of the Hour *Call to Worship Our God invites us to join in the demonstration for righteousness and compassion. Yea, we are drawn to the pageantry of Palm Sunday, and to the Christ, who enters lives with grace and truth that can uplift and heal. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. We open our hearts to the presence of our Lord Hosanna! And Hosanna! Let us worship God. *Processional Hymn #196 All Glory, Laud, and Honor VALET WILL ICH DIR GEBEN Concerns and Celebrations of the Church Fellowship Registration Please pass the fellowship pad found at the end of the row, record information, and return the pad to its starting point. Then please remove sheet and place in the offering plate when it is passed. Introit Hosanna Cherub Singers arr. Peggy Pellett *Prayer of Confession Marie Prosser O Lord, our God, you alone know the full extent of the sin that has corrupted our lives: prejudice that divides us unnecessarily, animosities that we nurture and offer to others you have already forgiven, scorn toward those with whom we disagree and who just might be right, faithfulness conquered by fear that leaves us timid in the face of truth, deceit that confuses loved ones who try to understand us and know us, envy that robs us of the joy of beholding the blessings of others, unwillingness to translate our belief into actions that make life better. O Lord, we do believe. We seek to follow Jesus. We know compassion works wonders. But still, at times, we fail and others suffer. Forgive us Lord! Renew our spirits and set us right. Help us to say, I m so sorry! where we need to so speak. Help us to forgive each other, as you have forgiven us. Yea, Lord, remind us that what we have broken, you can reassemble, make whole - and heal. Hear now our silent prayers of confession...
*Period of Silent Prayer In our Savior s name we pray. Amen. Marie Prosser *Assurance of Pardon Hear the good news from Romans 8:34: Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. We praise God for the gift of Grace! We seek to practice the Grace of God in our daily lives. The room is to the right of the fellowship hall. *Affirmation of Faith Adapted from the Confession of 1967, 9.09 God s reconciling act in Jesus Christ is a mystery which the Scriptures describe in various ways. It is called the sacrifice of a lamb, a shepherd s life given for his sheep, atonement by a priest; again it is ransom of a slave, payment of debt, vicarious satisfaction of a legal penalty, and victory over the powers of evil. These are expressions of a truth which remains beyond the reach of all theory in the depths of God s love for humankind. They reveal the gravity, cost, and sure achievement of God s reconciling work. *Hymn #269 Lead on, O King Eternal! LANCASHIRE Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
