OFFICE HOURS Monday-Thursday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Closed for lunch 12:00-1:00 pm; Friday 8:00 am-12:00 pm TRUST IN JESUS Today's feast celebrates another central mystery of our faith--the mystery of the Eucharist. Like the mystery of the Trinity, the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist can never be fully understood, but can only be believed. Just as the Israelites in the desert were invited to put their trust in God's word to them, we are invited to trust wholly in the word of Jesus. In today's Gospel Jesus promises to give us a share in his very own flesh and blood, and a share in eternal life besides. We are called to take him at his word and open our hearts to receive true nourishment and life from our participation in the Eucharist. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - June 18, 2017 48 Weeks to Dedication of new Church! I have heard from so many of you how pleased you were to meet and welcome the seminarian who will be spending this summer with us: Rogelio Molina! He was introduced at all the Masses last weekend and has been attending Morning Mass as well on a regular basis. Rogelio shared with me how wonderful he felt at the end of the weekend because of the warm reception he received; he said that he already feels like he s a member of our parish family! That s certainly a compliment to all of you who have extended that warm handshake of welcome. I will try to keep him busy by experiencing all the different aspects of our parish. Remember how in the past I had that program Guess Who s Coming to Dinner? And the answer was ME my way of getting to know you and your family. Well, how about that same program this summer Rogelio as the answer? If you want to invite him to join you at a meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner) or any other social event (picnic, barbecue, swim party, movie, etc.), just call the office and connect with Rogelio. These will be great opportunities for him to get to know some of our wonderful Holy Spirit families on a much closer basis. Thanks. I have news about Kayla Falco, our weekend Mass Coordinator! She applied for and has been hired for a position at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. Kayla, as you may recall, has just graduated from UNLV with a degree in Communications. A UNLV faculty member heard about the opening at Catholic Charities and suggested Kayla apply. She will be working full-time, Monday through Friday, a day shift, at Catholic Charities. She will be working with volunteers, giving tours of the facilities, planning social events and such. I m so very proud of her to land a good job, right out of college. She wants to continue to work at Holy Spirit on weekends, but I have told her she needs at least one day off weekly. So, we might not see her as much around the parish. She will continue with the online courses in Liturgy given by the University of Notre Dame. All the best, Kayla! We wish you the very best! Construction News: the chain link fence at the SW corner of Russell & Hualapai is for our construction firm, Bentar Development. That will be one area for their construction trailers; another such area will be right on the building site itself. The first part of the project will be the Parking Lot. Check our website for regular updates (www.holyspritilv.org) NEW BEGINNINGS A Ministry of Hope, Healing and Consolation New Beginnings is a Bereavement Ministry designed to provide support to Christian individuals who have experienced traumatic loss in their lives. The grieving process can cause a sense of feeling disconnected, dismayed and can fill the individual with a sense of hopelessness and despair. New Beginnings offers several services that will gently accompany the bereaved and the parish community in their adjustment to the fact of death and to the sorrow this entails. HOPE Catholic Funeral Mass Planning and Coordination Our faith reminds us of the sure and certain hope that our loved one who died in Christ will rise with him on the last day. A compassionate and non-judgmental funeral coordinator will guide you in planning a beautiful funeral liturgy for your deceased loved one. You will be assisted in choosing Scripture readings and hymns that express our Christian hope in Christ s saving death and resurrection. Contact: Patti Fitzpatrick 702-459-7778 HEALING Grief Facilitation - Blessed are they who mourn; they shall be consoled (Matthew 5:3) This support group offers trained individuals to help the bereaved understand the process of grief. In these classes, individuals examine their feelings during this intense period and look at coping mechanisms to move through the process feeling guided and not alone. The service has structured classes on various topics and also offers sessions for participants to examine their experiences and share with others in a safe environment led by a facilitator. Contact: Susie Cram 702-459 -7778 CONSOLATION Helping the Bereaved - If one member suffers in the body of Christ which is the Church, all the members suffer with that member (1 Cor. 12:26) When a member of Christ s Body dies, the faithful are called to a ministry of consolation to those who have suffered the loss of one whom they love. This is an in-service offered to help individuals who are close to, work with, or know someone who has suffered a loss, but who are not sure how to help the bereaved. The instructor will teach the participants the stages of grief, describe normal grief behavior and share ways to journey with the individual they want to help or support. Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, On the weekend of June 25, our diocese will take up the Peter s Pence Collection. Our participation supports the charitable work of Pope Francis as he reaches out to those who are marginalized and suffering around the globe. By supporting this collection, you join the Holy Father in bringing a little more mercy into the world. Pope Francis called to us in his 2016 Urbi et Orbi address: May efforts be made everywhere to promote the culture of encounter, justice and reciprocal respect, which alone can guarantee the spiritual and material welfare of all people. We are taking up this collection to be part of the Church s effort to promote a culture of encounter and justice. Your support makes it possible for the Holy Father to carry out his charitable works around the world, to help victims of war, natural disasters, and other difficult situations. Let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the marginalized in our world. Please prayerfully consider how you can best support the collection this year. For more information about the collection, please visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence. Thank you, and may God bless you abundantly, I remain Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, D.D., J.C.D. Bishop of Las Vegas A little mercy makes the world less cold and more just.
