Page 2 FAITH FORMATION By Grace Lakatos Have you ever seen or prayed a Mission Rosary? It is also called a World Rosary. In February of 1951, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen (National Director of the Society of the Propagation of Faith) developed the colorful rosary to link two major focuses of the church, prayer and apostolate (today known as evangelization). He stated, We must pray, and not just for ourselves, but for the world. Each decade of the Rosary is a different bright color. The green beads represent the forests and grasslands of the continent of Africa, while the red ones promote the image of the fire of faith brought by the missionaries to the continent of the Americas. White beads represent Europe, home of the Holy Father, shepherd of the world. The continent of Asia, the morning light of the East is seen in the yellow beads while the Pacific Islands are reflected in the ocean surrounding them in the bright blue beads. In the hopes of exploring new means and methods of prayer, the Confirmation students were each given a Mission Rosary in addition to wallet size cards depicting the steps of the Prayer Process. Developed by Matthew Kelly from Dynamic Catholic, the Prayer Process is a simple personal means to begin a conversation with God. The seven steps begin with Gratitude, thanking God for what you are most grateful for that day. Next, revisiting the past 24 hours to examine and develop an Awareness of when you were and were not the best version of yourself and talk to God about these situations and what you ve learned from them. Every 24 hours of each day has a Significant Moment, whether an event or an encounter with another person where God might be trying to say something to you. Identifying and examining that moment is the third step. This step is the asking for a deep and abiding Peace, by asking God to forgive you for any wrongs you may have committed against Him, another person or yourself. God is inviting us to change for the better. We only need speak to Him about how to do it and that is the next step: Freedom. Others are also a part of the Prayer Process. This sixth step is to lift up to God anyone that you feel called to pray for, asking God to bless and guide them. The last step may be the easiest of all but requires slow and deliberate concentration on the words. It is the recitation of the Our Father, a prayer we have been saying all of our lives, but one which needs to be felt and not just said. To everything there is a season, including our prayer life. If you are interested in a Prayer Process card, please leave a message in the parish office and I will be glad to send one to you. If the Mission Rosary seem to be of interest to you, drop in the gift shop and our volunteers will gladly help you out. Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17. PARISH NEWS MAY OCTOBER ROSARY Please join us on Monday evenings at 6 PM at the Blessed Mother s Shrine to say the rosary. You may wish to bring a lawn chair if you need to be seated. JPII GIFT AND BOOK SHOP NEWS Pope Francis has published a new exhortation entitled, Gaudete et Exsultate or translated means, Rejoice and be Glad. Don t be fooled by the Church formality or Latin. Pope Francis writes in a very simple and easy to understand style for everyone not just for theologians. In this exhortation, the Pope reminds us that we are all called to holiness, to become saints in our time. And becoming a saint, the Pope explains, means to be ourselves, where we are called to be in the contemporary world. He encourages us to be kind, to follow the beatitudes and live our lives in love, to become saints next door. Pope Francis uses many current, down to earth examples of holiness such as caring for an ailing relative, visiting a neighbor and speaking truthfully and kindly to others. The Gift and Book Shop carries this exhortation and other books by Pope Francis. We remain open before and after weekend Masses during the summer. May you and your families have a safe and enjoyable summer! TRAVEL NEWS The deadline for reservations for our fall French Canadian Autumn trip is July 16th, so make your reservations now.
