St John s Anglican Church Toorak with All Saints Kooyong Welcome to The Anglican parish of St John the Evangelist 86 Clendon Rd Toorak VIC 3142 PH 98261765 Vicar Archdeacon Dr Bradly S Billings our mission statement What we have seen and heard we announce to you also, so that you will join us in the fellowship that we have with the Father and with his son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1.3 28th December 2014 First Sunday after Christmas 8am Holy Communion 10am Sung Eucharist St John s Toorak 8.30am Holy Communion All Saints Kooyong www.saintjohnstoorak.org

NOTICES Holy Communion Thursday The 11am Thursday morning service of Holy Communion will not take place this Thursday, 1st January 2015 due to the public holiday for New Year s Day. The Parish Office Will close Christmas Day and Boxing Day, New Year s Day and Friday 2 January. New Director of Music & Organist The vicar is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Christopher Cook as Director of Music and Organist from 1st February 2015. Chris comes to the parish with several decades of experience as a Cathedral, parish and international concert organist, and replaces Professor Mel Waters, who is retiring at the end of January. A message from Chris follows. We look forward to welcoming Chris to the parish in the new year, and to the fine tradition of musical and choral excellence continuing at St John s under his leadership. It gives me great pleasure to accept the position of Director of Music at St John's Toorak, and I am humbled by the trust placed in me. My first experience as a liturgical musician was playing for my local parish in 1976, and from then I've worked in Cathedrals, inner city parishes, taught and examined organ at tertiary level, piano at secondary level, and even worked as a building manager. I graduated in piano and organ and try to keep up the differing techniques for both instruments. I have a strong vision for the Heritage Parishes, as I term them. With the resources with which we are entrusted: buildings, grounds, capital, staff, scholars, transient visitors and long-term families, we have a God-given opportunity to enhance the beauty of the liturgy, as well as being conduits to integrate the broader community. We need to connect outwards as much as we meditate inwards. It is my hope that I am able to broaden the excellent base already here, and inspire more to join the parish community through the fine Arts program they experience.

NOTICES Vicar s Announcement Our vicar, Brad, has announced that he is to leave the parish at the end of January 2015, after almost six years as vicar. Brad has accepted an invitation from the Archbishop to take up the position of Director of Network 1.28, which has responsibility across the Diocese for theological education and training. Brad will commence in the new role on 1 st February 2015. Further details regarding the appointment of a Locum and the convening of the parish Incumbency Committee will be made known when available. All Saints Kooyong service time The service time at All Saints Kooyong will change to 9am Sunday (Holy Communion) from January 2015. Liz Hawthorne Will be speaking about her mission work at the 8am and 10am services on 8th February. Afterwards Liz will show photos in Buxton Hall (after the 10am service) to give you additional information and to answer questions. Evening Service The 5pm Evening Service is now in recess and will return on Sunday 1st February 2015 for a service of Holy Communion at 5pm in the Angel Chapel. From 2015, the Evening Service will take place monthly (only) at 5pm in the Angel Chapel, and will include Holy Communion. Brad, Karen and family farewell lunch On 15 th Feb after the 10.00am Service, please join us over lunch in farewelling Brad and the Billings family. The Catering Guild has kindly advised they will cater and donate the lunch. Byo wine, beer, champagne and soft drink to share. Donation envelopes toward a gift for Brad are available in the Narthex or you may leave an envelope in the offering plate at a Sunday morning service.
