FAZtor s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora The story is told about a man and a donkey walking to school together every day for eight years. One day, the man was seen walking to school alone. Why? The donkey had graduated. Its gradua on me once again! Congratula ons to all the graduates from Kindergarten, 8th Grade and Pre School this school year. Congratula ons also to their parents and their teachers. Their success and accomplishments are yours too. We have had some gradua on and culmina ng ceremonies here in our Church. Saint Igna us College Prep had their Transi on Mass and Mercy High School also had their Graduaon Mass a week ago. Friday was the gradua on ceremonies for our Holy Name School, our Kindergarten in the morning and the Eight Grade in the a ernoon. Our HN Preschool will also have their share of the gradua on rite and celebra on this coming Friday, June 12th. This Sunday, June 7th is my ordina on anniversary. It s a kind of gradua on too, a er 29 years in the ministry. Just like any gradua on, the journey con nues. Frank Mihalic, SVD, tells a story of a man who took a picture to a gi shop to have it framed. At the counter he heard a lady customer telling the sales clerk that she wanted a frame for a picture worth $100,000. The clerk gasped and stammered and explained that although the shop did not usually handle such expensive items, they would certainly do their best. The customer said that she was sa sfied with that. Then she opened her carrying bag, took out her son s college diploma, and laid it on the counter. Do you ever realize how much of an investment any boy or girl in school for up to eighteen years (Pre School through college) turns out to be? How many thousands of dollars a year it costs parents and taxpayers and the government to keep each pupil in school? Think of the expenses in clothes, food and books, in equipment and buildings, and teachers salaries and school fees. The pupils part of that unwri en contract is to study hard to earn that diploma which they and their parents will righ ully want to frame and display as a valuable picture worth $100,000. The next me you go into the office of a doctor or teacher or lawyer, no ce their framed diplomas and cer ficates hanging on the wall. Behind them is the untold story of generous parents and patrons and the government, who have no diplomas to display for making the diploma you are looking at possible. FATHER S DAY NOVENA CARDS The Holy Name Ladies Aid Society will be selling Father s Day Novena Cards on: Saturday, June 6 Sunday, June 7 Saturday, June 13 Sunday June 14 Remember your fathers whether living or deceased with the gift of a Novena. You were invaluable to our teachers, staff members and school children as you gently directed numerous religious activities and our after school language classes. Sister Esther was instrumental in our sacramental programs of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. She helped teachers plan and practice for our weekly school Mass and our monthly Family Mass. She made sure everything was in place for our Thanksgiving Day Mass, Christmas Eve Mass, Palm Sunday Mass and Stations of the Cross. Sister Esther also directed a wonderful language program for students interested in learning Cantonese or Mandarin. She was responsible for all the clerical paperwork associated with the program, met each day of class with the teachers and dropped in regularly to be sure students were behaving properly. Sister has also been instrumental in having a goodly number of children Baptized into the Catholic faith. She met with students and guided them through the doctrine and traditions of Catholicism. These are just some of the wonderful things Sister Esther Ling has done for our school over the years. She has truly been a blessing to all of us and will be sorely missed. I hope you will all remember Sister Esther Ling in your prayers as she returns to her homeland, Hong Kong. I'm sure Sister Esther will remember us in her prayers. Mrs. Suzanne Bergeron, one of our educational therapists, will not be returning to Holy Name School next year. She has been a wonderful asset to our special needs program and will be missed by her students and the faculty and staff members. Good luck to Suzanne as she spends quality time with her children. Thank you to Sister Esther and her language class teachers for preparing the students for a wonderful Language Class Awards Ceremony last week. Students learned a lot this year and were able to "show off" their language skills at the ceremony. Samples of their written work were on display, and parents and students visited while refreshments were served. On Thursday evening, May 28, the gym was festooned with our 2nd grade students' writing assignments. Students read three of their selections and entertained the audience as they sang songs throughout the presentation. Thank you to Mrs. Sharon Aymard and Mrs. Diane Preble for another wonderful year teaching our students and for preparing them for Authors' Night. Thank you to the parents who helped set up the gym, brought delicious food for the potluck dinner and cleaned the gym up afterwards. It was truly a group activity with everyone lending a hand. Thank you! Thank you to Mrs. Lily Hui (Katelyn Sum 6B & Kelsey Sum 4thgd) for being a wonderful head room parent this year. Thank you to each and every room parent who stepped up to go above and beyond your "call of duty." This has been a wonderful school year because of each and every one of you. Thank you, Lily, and all of the 2014-15room parents. Congratulations to Holy Name School, teachers and students, for receiving the Platinum Mathletics School Award for a huge number of math questions answered throughout the year. Thank you to Mrs. Nicole Haggerty and Miss Anna Rivieccio for racking up the most points in the school. God bless our kindergarten and eighth grade students who will be graduating this Friday. Sincerely, Mrs. Judy Cosmos
