W E L C O M E TO THE P A R I S H OF S T. BE R N A R D! Dear Friends, This weekend s feast of the Holy Family continues the great the octave of Christmas, and is a beautiful reminder to us of the unity we share as a family. Every family is unique, but there is one abiding quality that every family should strive to possess: peace and harmony with one another. So many families in our world are divided, and when you look more closely and see the reasons those divisions exist, they are oftentimes insignificant. The people we should be able to rely upon the most are the members of our family. W hen illness occurs or other situations which require help, the members of our family are usually first in line to offer help and assistance. If we ve run into hard times, we turn to our family to lift us up and help us. Differences in opinion can always impact family life, but when something happens which requires the unity of the entire family at once, it s amazing to watch families set aside those differences and unite together as a cohesive unit. I ve seen it happen on a number of occasions, and it s great to see. W hen we look at the meaning of family in terms of our connection to Christ, we are all brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus. Yet, when one looks at the political tensions which exist in our own country and around the world, people lose sight of the fact that we are united as one in Christ Jesus. W e are quick to pass judgment, quick to condemn or to make someone feel bad. People are at each other s throats, and that s not a good way to be, friends. W hen we look at someone, we cannot forget that they are made in the image and likeness of Christ, and while we may not agree with what they say or believe, we must always strive to give witness to the presence of Christ within them. If we strive to live in this way, we will be far better people and keep that sense of joy about us when dealing with others. Tis the season for resolutions as the New Year welcomes us. Let s do all we can to keep that image of family before us, and to live in the image and likeness of the Holy Family. My prayers are with you and your families as we look to the New Year... for health, happiness and that sustaining joy that the Christ child brings to us in the season of His birth. It s tempting to move Christmas to the memory lane section of our minds, but this is where we can draw our joy and strength as we hover near the manger and adore the Christ Child. He is our peace and our salvation! Happy New Year! Fr. Michael Thanks from Ken Thank you so much for the beautiful floral arrangement sent in sympathy of my mother s passing. Please know how much it meant to receive that visible reminder of all the prayers, love and support you have given to me over these many years of caring for my mother as well as for my father before his passing in 2009. Your continued support has helped me a great deal during this difficult time. Please know how grateful I am to all of you. -Ken Sosinski and the Family of Anna Sosinski

This Week at a Glance 12:30pm (Room 1) 1:00pm (Room 3) 6:00pm (Room 1) 6:00pm (Room 1) Wednesday, January 2nd Pornography in Our Culture Before his passing, Bishop Morlino dedicated the weekend of January 19th and 20th as Safe Haven Sunday. During this weekend, we will discuss the heavy cross of pornography, and how it has taken hold in so many households. If you poll a priest, they will more than likely tell you that pornography is among the top three things mentioned in the confessional. As technology evolves and inappropriate material becomes so readily available, pornography is affecting many people: men, women and children, both young and old. The homily on this weekend will discuss pornography in general terms. Safe Haven Sunday has been instituted by many dioceses throughout the United States and is providing help and encouragement to those struggling with pornography. Because this special topic falls on the third weekend, we ll move the children s homily to the following weekend, January 22nd and 23rd.
