Saturday, March 3 9:00 AM 2:00 PM Lenten Retreat (Chinese) - Flanagan Center Page 3 Second Sunday in Lent March 4, 2012 FAZtor s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora Times are desperate! This expression has been used so often. There is even a TV show entitled Desperate Housewives. I don t know much about the show, so I don t know if the show portrays a group of ladies who are desperate. By the looks and the way the char acters of the show are being portrayed, the show doesn t seem to depict what we really mean when we say times are desperate. For in my unscholarly computation, it simply means, today s economy is bad. With the kind of situation we are in, another expression naturally flows: People are desperate! People will do practically anything just to survive, even as desperate as stealing flower pots from our church or taking money from the collection basket. Be vigilant and be aware of scams that have been going around. I am sure some of you, like me, have received emails about a friend in London or in some foreign country who lost his passport and needed money to return to the US. Or maybe you have received an email about a friend who filed for bankruptcy, about you winning millions in a lottery, or about a relative who just died and left you a huge amount of money. So, they will ask for your personal information. Yesterday, I received an email from a certain Patrick Yang about a business deal worth $45,000,000.00. Not to be rude and just being courteous in business correspondence, I responded to him by saying I could only give him the last 8 digits of his proposal. A parishioner informed me that some of our parishioners have received phone calls about a relative who had an accident and they need to send money right away. Please don t fall into the trap of these swindlers and desperate people. Check the veracity of the information. Beware of impostors and big pretenders! A young businessman had just started his own firm. He rented a beautiful office and had it furnished with the very best. Sitting at his fancy desk, he saw a man come into the outer office. Wishing to appear busy to his potential first customer, he picked up the telephone and improvised a onesided conversation with a big spender. He threw big figures around and made giant commitments. Finally he hung up and asked the visitor, May I help you? The man answered, Sure. I ve come to install that phone! HOLY NAME TREE OF LIFE Your donation to the HOLY NAME TREE OF LIFE goes towards our CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND. Leaves are $500 each + $25 for engraving. The order form is available @ www. holyname-sf.org or drop by the Parish office during office hours.
