It was a Super Sunday for the JCC. We had representatives all over Ocean County. ROBIN & ALAN KANIS on the marriage of their son Ryan to Amy Cooper SHARE YOUR NEWS CONTACT: rvalen1963@aol.com At the JCC we held our Model Seder for the School. It was a beautiful event with the help of Dona and Lindsay DeMola, Patti Ruland, Stephanie Krill, Susan Sheehan and Staci Irwin. Rabbi Jay, our present day Moses, set the stage with a walk through the building with staff in hand retelling the story before we gathered at the beautifully set Seder table. We held the Seder conducted with the help of the children, ate a meal, searched for the
afikomen, played games and sang songs. Meanwhile, up at the Beth Am Shalom building in Lakewood, the Powitz family packed the 40 senior emergency bags which they brought back to LBI for distribution. St. Francis will be receiving 20 of them as a donation from Federation for their cooperative efforts in the community. Also, behind the Federation building, the Doctor family tilled the soil and got the ground ready for the planting of the Community Garden crops for this year. The proceeds of which will go to the food bank. If that wasn't enough, Rabbi Jay and Lynn Berkowitz arrived at the Federation building for the 2 o'clock shift on the Super Sunday schedule. The JCC is really a vibrant member of the Jewish life in Ocean County! Rabbi Jay added his report to last weekend's happenings. "... allow me to let you know what happened on Shabbat. We had 18 people for services on Friday evening. I gave a brief talk about Matzah as a symbol, but we also discussed the tragic death of 7 children in Brooklyn from a fire apparently begun when the family Hot plate (used for Shabbat) short circuited. I also reiterated the need to let our elected officials know of our support for Israel and how we feel about the Iran deal. God heard us after we cried out; the messages that we should never be silent. We also had 9 for Torah Study during which we looked at the Haggadah in some depth. It was a special study session." CARING COMMITTEE This committee acts as a support system for congregation members facing illness and other personal situations that need to be addressed. Please contact Chairperson, Joy Kern, if you are in need of assistance or if you know of a JCC member that needs our help. 609-978-3669 GIVING OPPORTUNITIES YAHRZEIT PLAQUES Space is available for memorial plaques on the yahrzeit boards in the Sanctuary. Our three existing Torahs are being cleaned and refurbished thanks to the generosity of two of our families. The JCC is undertaking a fundraising effort so that the new Torahs can be obtained without adversely affecting the already approved budget for 2015. Our membership and our friends are asked to support the JCC in one of the great Mitzvahs, helping to bring Torahs here. There will be additional information in the April Bulletin but if you are ready to help... Thank you.
