2 Greetings from the East My fellow brothers, Happy New Year. Let s start by saying thank you to everyone for electing me Worshipful Master for All of the new officers did a great job during installation and a big thank you to Past Masters Chuck Smith, Bob Skrapka, and Jim Litchford for being the installing officers for the ceremony and to Ruby Agnir for being installing musician. We have inherited a great lodge from the Past Masters and this year we should strive to make it even better. With a focus on recruitment and Masonic education we will have the best lodge in the state. We now have a greater percentage of our lodge members that are young men with families and careers and these new members will carry Masonry into the future if we give them a reason to stay active. Our first event this year is a fund-raising yard sale to be held at on Saturday January 16th. We have picked the 16th and the venue to coincide with Barbecue and Blues, being hosted by the Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce, and the thousands of people visiting the festival will have to drive right by our yard sale. In March, instead of our normal pig roast fundraiser we have decided to try a chicken dinner this year. This will allow us to sell meals cheaper and with less work. We will try to make it more of an event feel with activities for the children and tables outside the lodge. In the fall we normally have a second pig roast. This year we are going to have our first chili cook-off. We will invite teams to come and prepare their best chili and bring their supporters to vote for their favorite. We will be selling tickets for the cook off for $5 which will include all the chili you can eat, bread, cheese, and we will be selling drinks. This year I welcome input from the membership to help grow our lodge and better educate ourselves about our fraternity. The more we cooperate the better this year will be. 3 Greetings from the West. Greetings from the West It s a new year with new plans and expectations. Our Worshipful Master has outlined plans for the upcoming months and there is an emphasis on community service. This excites me and I believe the thought of getting out in our Zephyrhills community to help others warms your hearts as well. As Masons, we are to help other Masons, and our fellow man. 4 Brethren, Greetings from the South Greetings from the South. I would like to start by saying "Happy New Year". Thank you to all the Brothers with their votes and trust in me with the honorable duties of Junior Warden. I am humbled. Also, Congratulations to all those elected and appointed Officers for the 2016 year. First, the condition of the Lodge will continue to improve with the integrity and vitality of those Brothers who invested their time in paving the way to make our Lodge the proud Lodge it is to date. With this in mind, I would like to call on the Brothers to apply their acquired skills, through their labors, to help strengthen the building and surrounding property. For example, attic clean up and organization of the storage rooms, along with updating utilities. Many hands make light work. I will present dates and times to the Worshipful Master and help create a maintenance calendar. I believe this will help insure future Brothers to continue this practice. Second, Education and Training will continue as always with hopes of more participation from the newly acquired Masons. I understand fully that all Brothers have extremely busy schedules, but I can insure you its time invested not wasted. The future of the craft will be placed in our hands. So let s be positive and patient to all Brothers. Finally, I will conclude a long winded message with gratitude to all Brothers before me who mentored and invested their time to improve the craft. Let s make this year a shining light in the darkness from which the future can bring us. Strive for perfection, settle for excellence. Fraternally, Paul Weil, Secretary ****************************************** Our Zephyr Angels in the Kitchen Eleanor Fritter Mary Smith Carole McBride Elizabeth Retey Carolyn Mayer The difference was like night and day says Worshipful Past Master Bob Skrapka referring to the meals served back in 2004 when the Stewards prepared the food compared to when the Zephyr Angels served their very first dinner. Back then, the pots and pans would sit in the kitchen until after Lodge closed and then the Brothers would have to use chisels to remove the dried food; often getting home around midnight. However, it was not until 2006 when Russ Trefethen was Master that he made a comment saying that the Ladies (who were then preparing the meals) were Angels and the name stuck. Ever since then, they have been known as the Zephyr Angels. So, if history serves us correctly, the Zephyr Angels have been preparing meals for the members of Zephyr Lodge No. 198 for about 14 years now. And no matter how you count it, that adds up to a lot of meals and a lot of happy, well fed Masons. Brothers, be sure say thank you to all of our current Zephyr Angels including Carole McBride, Elizabeth Retey, Eleanor Fritter, Linda Sumner, Mary Smith, and Lou Allen, the next time you pass down the serving line. We never take our Zephyr Angels for granted. We are extremely grateful to each and every one of these wonderful ladies and for what they do to support our Lodge. --- And don t forget, the donation is still only $ ******************************************
