1 Well, it s been a month now (just a shade more, actually) and I couldn t feel more welcomed at TBC. Thanks to all who have gone out of their way to make my family and I know that we are wanted and loved. It s meant a lot. It means a lot. On my heart this month is the ongoing quest for unity within our church body. I am thankful that there are so many willing and available hearts to incline themselves toward the Lord; to be obedient; to serve. You are truly God s gift within His gift. If you read that last statement and have a twang of guilt, then this article is for you. No, no, no.not to foist guilt upon you - on the contrary. I want to encourage you. If you used to volunteer or haven t done that in a while or feel that they don t really need me then I want to clear some things up. We DO need you NOW and we ALWAYS will. Unity is manifest when diverse individuals or groups gather around a common cause. They have a direction to go in; they are marching toward a goal; they encourage one another. If you were a part of TBC when the Worship Center was built, you ve experienced what I m talking about. We are all different. We possess different strengths (see gifting references in the Bible) and are called to use what we have been given by God to God s purpose. To NOT use the gifting is to rob God of His glory. I don t want that for you, and I know He doesn t either. If you ve been sitting on the sidelines, waiting to see what may happen at TBC well, something s happening folks. Something big: God is at work. It s time for you to act. Remember, it doesn t matter what your gifting is. God WILL use it to His good purpose. If you can speak, you can serve. All you need to do is find our volunteer coordinator (if she hasn t found you already), Cindy Lawhorn, and tell her of your desire to serve. She ll ask you a few questions to offer you some options that match your gifting. Try one out (especially if you ve never done it before) and see what God will do with it (and you). There are no insignificant tasks in a church, just people that make themselves insignificant by sitting on the sidelines. Get in the game.i understand there s something happening at TBC. Be a part of it. With His love for you, Mark Since 64

4 JOURNEY INTO MISSIONS To the Rescue By Don Slusher It had been a long day of hauling and spreading wet concrete. We were already exhausted from several previous days of moving earth, pouring a sub floor and all the other activities associated with the construction site, so on this particular day we were about at our end of physical endurance. There was only a few wheelbarrow loads of concrete left to pour but the finishing and smoothing remained. Everyone felt that we might not have the strength to finish and I am sure that a few prayers were being made for strength for the task that remained to be done. These prayers were soon answered when we heard the sound of vehicles approaching the work site. Out of the vehicles came the second team that we were expecting to arrive from the states later that evening. They walked up to the site and soon realized that they were needed. I fully expected that they would go down the hill the short distance to the place we were staying to change clothes and get their work boots on. But instead they immediately jumped into the wet concrete with their good traveling clothes on as well as their good shoes and were soon covered up to their knees in wet sloppy concrete. I had never met or worked with these folks before but I had heard what wonderful, tough guys they were. I was quickly convinced that they were very special brothers. Just ten days or so earlier we had arrived at this same site totally exhausted from a couple days of travel as well as a loss of sleep so the last thing we wanted to do was go to work. These guys saw brothers in distress so they ignored comfort or material possessions to help us with the remaining work that needed to be finished. Soon fresh hands and stronger backs were at work and the floors were finished. Later we had time to celebrate and to get to know these wonderful people who helped us. For a long time I thought about the act of sacrifice that the second team made to aid us and obviously I still remember this event well. Over the next few days though I began to hear stories of much greater sacrifices that had been made in the past by different people of Poland as some of them worked to protect the Jews and other minority groups during the time of the Nazi occupation. As we always tried to do on our trips we had a few days of R and R after the work is completed. Most times we go to visit some historical site such as Machu Pichu in Peru or to some beautiful area like Iguassu Falls in Argentina. On this occasion though we took some time to see some historic cities of Poland. We ended our trip with a visit to Auschwitz. So next month I want to spend some time talking about this visit and about some folks we met along the way to what has to be one of the most depressing, forlorn spots on the earth. Working with the first Concrete pour. Work site as we found it upon Our arrival. All the floors had to Leveled and The finished floors. The Second team built the Roof. Next month... To the Rescue But for Some Too Late
