Iam writing this on the tenth anniversary of my first Sunday as Pastor of Avondale Presbyterian Church (sorry, Dove editors Karen and Pam, for being past the deadline). First of all, I would like to thank you for the very special surprise dinner and celebration of my ministry with you last Sunday night. It was great! I felt very encouraged and appreciated. It was a real lift for me and for my family. Thank you for coming out for the night together and a special thank you to all of you who spoke and said such wonderful things. It meant a lot! As I think over the past decade, I realize that it has been a lifetime together with you. What I mean is that Mindy was an infant, just barely seven months old. So the length of time of service with you equals an entire lifetime, the lifetime of Mindy. That puts things in perspective a little bit. I feel very satisfied in our relationship as pastor and congregation. We have had sorrows, struggles, and misunderstandings, but the positive far outweighs any of the difficulties. You are a wonderful congregation, and we feel blessed to be a part of you. The truth is that we have shared life together, and that counts for so much. We feel a part of you, and you are most certainly a part of us. We have experienced life together with many joys and many sorrows. I have shared your tears and pains. You have done the same for us. We have laughed together a lot (I like that). We have worshipped and served together in all kinds of ways. We are a part of each other. This means a very great deal. We will always be connected, now on earth, and even in heaven one day. "Life Together" I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now (Phil..-5). I am very excited about where we are as a congregation at this time. With the building project about to get under way and with the progress in ministry development that we look forward to, I am excited about what God is up to in our midst. I am most excited about the relationship which we have as brothers and sisters in Christ. I use the same words from Paul's letter to the church in Philippi which I used on in my first Sunday with you. These words have taken on more meaning as we have gotten to know each other. I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now (Phil..-5). Thank you for your kind expressions of love and appreciation at our surprise celebration last Sunday night. May God continue to bless us and guide us in our life together! Faithfully yours,

The congregation will be seeing a summary of their work, and an oversight team will be formed to implement the initiatives that were developed. Phil Hertzog was elected to be Presbytery Commissioner for the March meeting of Donegal Presbytery. Transferred the membership of Nancy Ruggiano to her home church in New Jersey where she now lives. Informed that Pastor has convened a group of folk who will be known as the "Natural Church Development Team" which will work a process to increase the eight quality characteristics defined by the book, Natural Church Development, in our church. Those "quality characteristics" are: empowering leadership, gift-based ministry, passionate spirituality, effective structures, inspiring worship service, holistic small groups, need-oriented evangelism and loving relationships. Upon the invitation of Presbytery to provide an Alternate General Assembly Commissioner for this year's meeting in Birmingham, Alabama, we elected Mr. Dave Schramm. We are still collecting tote bags for Operation Hope Tote, and will continue to collect them until Sunday, April nd, so the deadline is fast approaching! These bags go to homeless people, and more are available in the rear of the church, also the location of where to turn your bag in upon completion. Please don't procrastinate, however, and bring your totes in ASAP to make it easier for the people who carry them out. Just a reminder, possible items to include in the tote bags are toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, socks, tissues, etc. Please, we ask that whenever anyone comes to the church for any kind of meeting, if they do not have a handicapped vehicle, save the handicapped spots for those who need them. It has happened too many times that someone who needs a handicapped spot could not have it because no spaces are open. Also, there is a request for anyone who can knit or crochet to help Barb Hart make a prayer shawl for someone. She has a few people to make blankets for, but can only do one at a time, so any extra hands would be greatly appreciated. [Editor s Note: See page 6 for more information.] Thanks a lot, and have a great month!

3 Avondale Presbyterian Church Page April 6 Dove News There is no God like JEHOVAH! This is another song that came out of the Revival in Belfast around 999. We can relate this to the coming Steve Wingfield Festival, May -. Pray for God to bring a mighty revival to our area. The goal is to have, people making decisions for Christ. Days of Elijah By Robin Mark These are the days of Elijah, Declaring the Word of the Lord, And these are the days of Your Servant Moses Righteousness being restored, And though these are days of great trials, Of famine and darkness and sword, Still we are the voice in the desert crying "Prepare ye the way of the Lord." Behold He comes riding on the clouds Shining like the sun at the trumpet call; Lift your voice; it's the Year of Jubilee Out of Zion's hill, salvation comes. These are the days of Ezekiel, The dry bones becoming as flesh. And these are the days of Your servant David, Rebuilding a temple of praise. And these are days of the harvest, The fields are as white in Your world. And we are the laborers in Your vineyard, Declaring the Word of the Lord. Behold, He comes, riding on the clouds, Shining like the sun, at the trumpet call. Lift your voice; it's the Year of Jubilee. Out of Zion's hill, salvation comes. 6 Avondale Presbyterian Church Page 6 April 6 Dove News Church Family News Recently Hospitalized and/or Recovering Dick Merner, Phil Pusey, Jewell DeFrate, Debbie Wentland, Ruby Mentzer. Our Sympathy and Love Patsy Davis in the death of her father; Pat Bentzel in the death of her mother. Changed Addresses Congratulations! Our own Buster Needham was awarded the distinction of "Master Farmer" in Harrisburg this past March by the American Agriculturist Mid-Atlantic program. The first recipients of this award were honored in 9. Master farmers produce intensively. They demonstrate long-term progress, consistent with their own resources. They are sharp on business, finances and marketing. Their operations are uncommonly efficient. Their good stewardship extends beyond financial resources, their soils and their livestock. A Master Farmer takes time to live, love and do for others. A common bond running among Master Farmers is the desire to further the rights and opportunities of farm families in a free society. They do this by example and leadership. Congratulations, Buster! You deserve it! Help Wanted: Knitters or Crocheters! The deacons would like your help making prayer shawls. While a "Prayer Shawl" is being knitted or crocheted, prayers are given for the well being, healing, peace of mind, etc. of the person who will receive it. Along with the prayer shawl, the recipient receives a copy of "The Prayer of Comfort". The Deacons will provide the yarn; you supply the needles or crochet hook. If you are a knitter, it is a simple pattern-you knit every row! If you are interested, contact any of the Deacons. 7 Avondale Presbyterian Church Page April 6 Dove News Search for Treasure at VBS! Monday, July - Thursday, July, 6 From 9: AM-Noon at Assumption BVM Church It's the time of year to start thinking about Vacation Bible School! This year we are going to Treasure Cove to search for the treasures that the Lord has left for us! VBS is geared for children from age through 5th grade. Each day kids will experience a new Bible adventure whose message will be reinforced with games, snacks, games, crafts, and of course, the most awesome music! A Bible gem will go home everyday to remind our children of God's Word. Because of our construction, Treasure Cove will be held at Assumption BVM Church on State Road across from the Avon Grove High School. Assumption has graciously allowed us to use their facility and share their theme (their VBS is the week before ours). Please keep in mind that VBS fills up fast, so turn in your registration forms ASAP! They are located in the back of the church. You can put them in the provided box or mail them to us. To volunteer to help out with VBS, please call Theresa Zunino or Sue Walker. Rummage Sale Our doors will be open to the public on Friday, April, 6 from 6: PM - 8: PM and Saturday, April, 6 from 9: AM - : PM We are looking for clothes for all ages, shoes, jewelry and household items. Please drop off your items after the late service on April 6.
