O. Box 339, Ashton, MD Dear Partner of CentrePointe, Join us in giving thanks to God for another fruitful year of ministry. Through the work of CentrePointe, the healing, reconciling work of Christ has touched and transformed more and more individuals, families, and communities. Because you have been an important part of our growing ministry, we want to keep you up to date on our progress. Just over a year ago, our board and staff gathered to seek our Lord s guidance about the overall direction and emphases of our ministry. Out of that gathering came a strategic plan that has already begun setting the course for CentrePointe s work. Our plan builds on our core ministry of Christian counseling, while also stretching us into new territory where we can participate in the work of Christ. By uniting long-standing ministries with new opportunities for service, we can continue moving forward with faith and expectation. Advancing in our ministry requires a solid financial structure. We re pleased that during this past year, we ve continued our progress in fundraising. In challenging economic times like these, the combination of careful financial management and continued resource development has enabled us to keep our focus on the people we serve. Along with God s call has come God s provision for the financial and material needs of our ministry. God s greatest gifts to CentrePointe are the individuals and organizations who join with us in the call of Christ. In addition to a growing staff, we have also been blessed with new board members who bring their experience, expertise, and passion to our mission. Add to these the volunteers in other areas of our work, who give themselves so that others can experience restoration and wholeness through the ministry of counseling. Every dimension of our work requires the collaboration of dedicated people through whom the love of God touches our clients lives. As you explore our annual report, you ll see all sorts of testimony to God s presence and power operating in our work. In particular, you ll hear from our Executive Director, Kim Cook, as she reflects on our agency s anniversary. Her leadership has been critical to our progress. Together with her, our board rejoices over our fruitful past, our productive present, and our promising future. We re grateful for you and for our partnership with you, and trust that you will keep us in your heart and in your prayers. Respectfully, Rev. Kevin Holder President, Board of Directors
2 Happy 35 th Anniversary to CentrePointe Counseling, Inc. To our friends and supporters: Happy Anniversary! CentrePointe celebrates 2012 as the 35 th Anniversary of providing services in Maryland. As members of our community support network, we extend our anniversary greetings and celebration to you. As we celebrate 35 years, we have this opportunity to share with you annual updates on our work throughout the communities of Maryland. Writing this letter to you each year is much like writing an annual letter to accompany a family Christmas cardcomplete with photos of memories from the year and good news about growth and new experiences. As part of our CentrePointe extended family, it is with great pleasure that we highlight for you the highlights of We closed our fiscal year again with a modest profit. Thanks to some generous donations and careful financial planning this was possible despite ongoing economic downturn. Additionally, we had two great events that to raise funds and share our story- a fundraising concert last fall and a Women Helping Women Campaign in the spring. We have included lots of pictures from these in our annual report. One of our greatest resources as an agency is our people. We have been joined by several great volunteers who have given through time and talent to the agency. This includes welcoming three new board members. The staff has also expanded and is larger than ever before, allowing us to reach more counseling clients than ever before. It is exciting to work in an agency where the board, staff, and community volunteers work so closely together to work toward a common goal. Our mission is to continue to reach across Maryland with Christcentered, professional counseling- helping families and individuals to create a ripple effect of change. Achieving this mission depends on people like you. Thank you for your role in our work this year. Your giving reaches the lives of many and encourages the staff as they go about their work each day. We hope you will join us in supporting and thanking the businesses, churches, and individuals that are listed as supporting our work. As you read more about the services of CentrePointe as highlighted in our annual report, we hope you might be lead to make a financial gift to CentrePointe Counseling. For the convenience of online giving, please visit our secure site, Checks can be sent (made out to CentrePointe Counseling, Annual Fund) to P.O. Box 339, Ashton, MD Blessings, Kim Cook, LCSW-C Executive Director Healthy individuals lead to healthy families; healthy families lead to healthy churches; healthy churches lead to healthy schools, organizations, businesses, and ultimately healthy communities. 3 Significant organizational changes and growth CentrePointe had significant growth in the number of counseling hours offered in the past year. We continue to get referrals from many individuals seeking Christ-centered counseling. We have experienced new referrals from public hospitals and local doctors asking if we would work with their patients who are requesting Christian counseling. CentrePointe is reviewing the new federal health care laws and the mental health parity act to be informed and prepared for the upcoming changes in health care. Three new board member were added. Julie Kays is experienced in non-profit development and is a member at Mays Chapel United Methodist Church. Gail Jackson works in the medical field and brings experience in grant writing. She is a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. Andrea James, M.D. fills our open spot for a physician on the board. She is a member at Church of the Redeemer. The board and staff are following a strategic plan developed October 11, Our focus lies in five key areas: establishing a sustainable financial plan, deepening staff skills and relationships, resource development of talent and funds, technology upgrades, and Clergy and Congregation Care program development. Ongoing services continue in the area of Clergy and Congregation Care. We provide seminars, retreats, clergy coaching, church planter coaching, and conflict mediation services to churches. Some of our most exciting work this year was in developing a marriage retreat package for churches. CentrePointe was accepted as a site in the Mid-Atlantic Collaborative with the Samaritan Institute. We partner with other centers in this region specifically to develop and provide services to clergy and congregations, especially educational and consultation services. A challenge we are facing is upgrading our technology. We are still doing our medical charts on paper with pen. In order to continue taking health insurance, we need to comply with federal mandates requiring us to use electronic health records by Two effective fundraising efforts were completed. We had an annual benefit concert in November at Ashton Baptist Church. We also had an inaugural Women Helping Women campaign followed by a banquet at Friendly Farms in April We launched our Church Partnership Plan. It offers churches an opportunity to support CentrePointe financially while receiving some perks at the same time. We offer partner churches many extras including vouchers for counseling that pastors can distribute to church members of use to have a counselor come and lead trainings for the church. Guest artist, Jeremy Sorenson, leading in worship at the Fall Concert at Ashton Baptist Church. Guest artist, Kimberly Sorenson, sharing a song on her guitar and leading in worship. Board member, Don Sweeney, encouraging donations to CentrePointe through the love offering collected. Carol Moore, long time Administrator at the Baptist Convention of MD/DE catching up with Executive Director, Kim Cook. Finance Coordinator, Sara Wiley, with a few of her special guests: Nina Davis, Betty Harlan & Cheryl Watts. Guest speaker, Gayla Parker, giving a message of redemption from the book of Ruth.

Box 339, Ashton, MD 20861or by calling ext Our educational events for the year included: continuing education workshops for counselors, marriage retreats, pastor training, deacon trainings, camp staff trainings, parent trainings, MOPS groups, and women s retreats. Many topics are available, call for more information. Staff Updates We are grateful to the following congregations for providing space for counseling and administration: Two new counselors have joined the staff with several others in the orientation process The staff continues to serve their local churches in a variety of leadership roles from teaching to leadership. Many went on mission trips from near home to overseas. Two national awards were received from the Samaritan Institute: Kim Cook won a national award for individual in leadership and Tom Rodgerson as part of the Mid-Atlantic Collaborative both for developing new services to Clergy and Congregations. We would like to express our appreciation for your ongoing support for this agency. CentrePointe, like other Samaritan Centers across the nation, is becoming the safety net that catches those underserved by our health care system, but who still need emotional and spiritual attention. To do that, we need to raise approximately $45,000 of our annual budget through donations. This number is significantly lower than similar organizations because the generous donations of counseling space keep administrative costs low. Thus, 86 percent of every dollar received provides direct services to those in need. Thank You!
