1 August 2014 Monthly Newsletter MINISTER S MUNCH SAVE THE DATES Minister s Munch August 11:30 am - 1:00 pm August s Munch will take place at Five Guys on State Street. Come prepared to discuss your level of interest in helping with the Harvest Homecoming Ecumenical Praise Set on October 9th at noon on the main stage. For the last several years, Floyd County s Churches have worked together to provide the kick-off prayer, praise and blessing of the Harvest Homecoming Event. We hope you can join us. There is room for everyone who wants to participate. Each month, Minister s Munch is an open invitation to all local Clergy and Ministers to gather for lunch. Each of us pays his/her own way. Typically we meet on the 4th Wed. of each month from 11:30-1 at a different restaurant in New Albany, In. We will not meet in November or December due to the holidays. We just catch up with what is going on in one another s churches and the happenings at Hope So. IN and enjoy spending time together in sharing about our respective Christ-focused ministries. Contact Christine at , Ext or charbeson@hopesi.org with any questions. STRUCTURED BIBLE STUDY Hope will be a meeting site for a 21 month Ecumenical Bible Study called DC. We received a lot of interest in this for a women s group, but a men s group is also welcome to meet here. Please contact Christine if you want more information, or if you are interested in joining a study. Here is a link to information about the curriculum: Board of Directors The Board of Directors meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Hope at 4:15 pm. Please contact Christine or Board Chair, Vern Eswine if you wish to address the Board of Directors about anything. Representative s Council Meets quarterly on the second Tuesday from 6-7:30pm at Hope. 2 NEWS & INFO HOPE SOUTHERN INDIANA SAVE THE DATE: NOVEMBER 13, 2014 Hope will have an Evening of Joy Gala on November 13 at Kye s in Jeffersonville. It will feature a wonderful dinner and a funny Christian Comedian. ANNOUNCEMENTS St. John Presbyterian Church Yard Sale St. John s Church 1307 E. Elm St., New Albany, IN August 8 & 9, 8am-2pm The sale will be held indoors. Bread Basket Service for folks with HIV/AIDS It is a joint mission of St. Paul s and AIDS Interfaith Ministries of Kentuckiana, The Bread Basket supports people affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Indiana. Families and individuals are able to get a grocery bag of supplies as well as household items to help support good nutrition. The distribution site is: St. Paul s Church 1015 E. Main St., New Albany, IN st Sat., 10-noon, each month CLOTHE-A-TEEN Shopping for Clothe-A-Teen took place on July 30. Because of your generosity, 132 teenagers were able to start the 14/15 school year with new clothes! Thank you for all your support!

3 NEWS & INFO HOPE SOUTHERN INDIANA THE POWER OF ONE CAMPAIGN $40K Thank you so much for your continued support of the power of One campaign. The current balance is $30,385! Every dollar is used to assist with programming and needs in our community. FOOD FACTS Hope Southern Indiana has coordinated with the Floyd County Nutrition Coalition to distribute Tomato Plants. If you received one this year, hopefully you can pick a tomato from your own plant! HOPE FOOD PANTRY NEEDS Food Pantry Needs If you can, share some pictures with us on Facebook at Wellness Coalition of Southern Indiana WCSI. Once again, this great community collaboration met the goal of providing 3,000 back packs filled with basic school supplies to Floyd County students in K-8 who are eligible for the Federal Free Lunch Program. Emcee Bob Lane kept us entertained with his jokes and sparkling personality. There was good-natured bidding on the 80 silent auction items. And the food oh my It was wonderful as usual! Years ago, the program carried a client load of over 100 homebound folks. Then came HIPPA and healthcare agencies were no longer allowed to refer their clients. Since that time we ve had between 30 and 35 DAC clients at any one time. On June 30, LifeSpan switched their Meals on Wheels delivery from daily to weekly. The upside is that the Meals on Wheels budget can now feed lots more people. The downside is with weekly delivery, those homebound clients are no longer getting daily visits, which is a concern to the LifeSpan staff. So they referred 324 clients to us for DAC. We have picked up some DAC volunteers from among those who are no longer delivering meals, but not nearly enough. It just takes a few minutes each day to check on someone who is homebound.
