4 4 Tebala Gram May 2016 Illustrious Sirs, members of the Divan, and Nobles, We are facing a crisis, the time to change is here, and together, we have to imagine the possibilities to make our survival happen. How will we do it? Here are a few ways: 1. Embrace family programs and events within our temple find acceptable ways to embrace the idea to make it happen. 2. Encourage our clubs and units to develop fundraisers that promote the ability to help finance growth in their membership and survival. This will also help the growth of fraternal membership. 3. With the aid of the Temple, as well as the leadership of our clubs and units, encourage and assist in the formation of new clubs and units that support younger members and their families. 4. Together, we must all look into and implement the many modes of modern communication, such as all call phone calls to members, more frequent use of e-blasts, better utilization of our website and it's calendar, auto text messaging, use of social media, Skype and/ or other forms of telecommunications. 5. Assisting lodges with the growth of brotherly membership; this is where we get our pool of future Shriners. 6. Increasing our community Public Relations: in all we do we must think, "how does what we are doing affect our image, and are we doing all we can put our best foot forward?" Make the best of parades or other appearances; promote who, what, where, when, and why in all we do. Promote, promote, promote! How will we accomplish this? First and foremost, by planning as a team. Your Divan will be working on a strategic plan and we want to encourage each club and unit to put together their own strategic plan. Please try to lean your thinking to PMA (positive mental attitude). Instead of thinking about why something won't work, let's think about how to make it work, and make it successful. We can work together to make it happen! Imagine the possibilities! Very Truly Yours, Jerry Minor Assistant Rabban Ladies Night Out Still looking for Shriner Ladies interested in joining our group for dinner and having some fun on the same night the Men have their monthly meeting at Tebala. 19 May 2016 Tebala Gram 19 LOVES PARK SHRINE CLUB NEWS (Continued) MORE TEXAS LORE: Definitions: Error: Hung the wrong horse thief sat down in your own coyote trap got caught in his own loop ripped his drawers (or britches) pulled your trigger without taking aim laid her egg in the wrong nest put your boot on the wrong foot that deer you shot turned out to be the neighbor s milk cow. Female Superiority: Houston s Liz Carpenter said it best, in a speech supporting Texas State Treasurer Ann Richards, with, Roosters crow, hens deliver. Compatible: Goes together like red beans and ham hock like chili and beer like bourbon and Coca Cola like chili and pepper like biscuits and gravy like a gun and a holster like a kid and a candy store Capable: Could track a bumblebee blindfolded in a blizzard could milk a rattlesnake into a Dr. Pepper bottle a good judge of horse flesh got a lot of arrows in his quiver up to snuff got plenty of notches on his gun LAUGH A LITTLE TIME: Married Couple Although this married couple enjoyed their new fishing boat together, it was the husband who was behind the wheel operating the boat. He was concerned about what might happen in an emergency. So one day out on the lake he said to his wife, Please take the wheel, dear. Pretend that I am having a heart attack. You must get the boat safely to shore and dock it. So she drove the boat to shore and safely docked it. Later that evening, the wife walked into the living room where her husband was watching television. She sat down next to him, switched the TV channel, and said to him, Please go into the kitchen, dear. Pretend I m having a heart attack and set the table, cook dinner and wash the dishes. Fix It Yourself When a guy s printer type began to grow faint, he called a local repair shop where a friendly man informed him that the printer probably needed only to be cleaned. Because the store charged $50 for such cleanings, he told him he might be better off reading the printer s manual and trying the job himself. Pleasantly surprised by his candor, he asked, Does you boss know that you discourage business? Actually, it s my boss s idea, the employee replied sheepishly. We usually make more money on repairs if we let people try to fix things themselves first. Shopping Mall You just go ahead, the man in the shopping mall said to his wife. While you re shopping, I ll just browse in the hardware store. An hour later, she returned and saw him at the checkout counter. The clerk was ringing up the last of a pile of tools and supplies that would fill two wheelbarrows. Are you buying all this? his wife asked incredulously. Well, yes, he said, embarrassed. Then waving his arm toward the interior of the store, he added, But look at all the stuff I m leaving behind. Lost & Found As the bus pulled away, I realized I had left my purse under the seat. Later I called the company and was relieved that the driver had found my bag. When I went to pick it up, several off duty bus drivers surrounded me. One man handed me my pocketbook, two typewritten pages and a box containing the contents of my purse. We re required to inventory lost wallets and purses, he explained. I think you ll find everything there. As I started to put my belongings back into the pocketbook, the continued, I hope you don t mind if we watch. Even though we all tried, none of us could fit everything into your purse. And we d like to see just how you do it. Teen Attire A teen-aged boy with spiked hair; nose ring and baggy clothes was overheard telling a friend, I don t really like to dress like this, but it keeps my parents from dragging me everywhere with them. Brain Teaser Answers: A. The child was born before B. They are husband and wife. C. Mount Everest, it just hadn t been discovered! D. Just one! As I said at the beginning, I hope I made this issue truly memorable. Please let me know. It s about time to duck out and that s it for another month. Hope you enjoyed reading it. Please forward your ideas, comments, questions, complaints, Atta-boys, suggestions or whatever to: President PP Leon (home) or (mobile); Vice President PP Tom (home) or (mobile); Secretary Gene home or ; or Treasurer Jim The mailing address remains: Loves Park Shrine Club, P.O.
