3 Little s Little Youth Word October is here, a new beginning to the church year, leaves changing colors, and of course Halloween. I loved Halloween growing up and I still do. I don t know why, but I love the adrenaline rush when I get scared. I love sitting down and watching a scary movie in the dark. I know this isn t for everyone, but this is why October is one of my favorite months of the year, along with the fact that hockey season begins! Onto the youth news! We will be continuing our Journey through the Bible this month. In October we only have one lesson which will be on Abraham and his many sons. Boy did he have a lot! Come join us as we take a look at the remaining chapters of Genesis. Also on Wednesday night we will be having our Dudes on Missions as usual the first Wednesday of the month. Our big youth activity will fall in line with the big church wide Faith Festival. This will be a great night to witness to our community. We are First Baptist Church of Four Oaks, so let us make this night great by inviting as many people as possible and show them what we have to offer. We are a church who most of all cares about people, so let s do this at our Faith Festival on October 25th! On October 18th before our Business Meeting the youth will be serving dinner (pancakes & sausage). Come out for the great meal prepared by our youth. The Youth Committee is hard at work on our yearly goals & objectives. Please be in prayer for each committee member as we go through this process. Dates to Remember: October 18: Youth serve Wednesday night dinner October 25: Faith Festival November 8: Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing December 6: Youth will deliver meals (be at the church by 5:15) December 15: Youth Christmas Party (6-11pm)

4 Churchwide Missions for OCTOBER and WMU-FO News WMU Mission: is to inform and inspire the Christian woman to influence her world for Christ. Events for WMU Mission Groups in October 2017: Agape Mission Group will meet on October 3rd at 10:30 AM at the home of Rebecca Holt. Dorothy Parker Circle will meet on October 10th at in the Prayer Room. Lib Canaday Circle will meet on October 12th at in the library. Missions for Christ Mission Group will meet on October 1st at 3:00 PM in the FH with Effie Dunn. New WMU directories were handed out in September at the banquet. Extra copies of the Directory are on the table underneath the WMU bulletin board. The Johnston Community College Campus Ministry on Wednesdays started again in January. Each week this ministry needs at least $90 towards purchasing food and drinks for the weekly Bible study. (Attendance last fall averaged 39 in the Wednesday meetings). Available fall lunch dates are: October 4, 18, 25; November 1, 8, 15, 29 and December 6. If you are able to help with this, please let Kelton Hinton or Tonya Grice know at the JBA office. The SECU Hospice House in Smithfield is requesting that area church groups make meals for those individuals who have a family member staying in Hospice. The coordinator of this project is asking for desserts on Wednesday nights and a lunch on Saturday or dinner on Sunday nights. This would entail 15 individually wrapped desserts on Wednesday and Saturdays/Sundays would require 15 lunches or dinner plated items wrapped. A schedule for the year was sent out by the church office. Anyone or group interested in working on this project contact Laura Rogers for a sign up date or Wanda Johnson at Hospice in Smithfield with your selected date and menu item. Carolina Women of WMU-NC is offering a Retreat on October 6-7, 2017 at Fort Caswell, Baptist Assembly, Oak Island, NC. Some of those on the program are: Phyllis Foy, NC missionary; Renea Henderson, Kimberly Sowell, author from Lancaster, SC and founder of Kingdom Heart Ministries, Sandy Wisdom-Martin, and new national Executive Director for WMU and the Cross Walk for entertainment. Cost is $90 and includes lodging, meals and program fee. You can register at: This is open for all WMU members. WMU-NC Red Box Inmate Christmas Ministry due on November 2. This year the item for collection is toothbrush adult size. The toothbrush must be in the original wrapper and be individually wrapped. WMU-NC is saying no exceptions on items collected this year. The JBA-WMU has a goal of 1700 toothbrushes to collect. This is a good time to begin collecting during spring/summer sales. A WMU Red collection box will be in the Genesis classroom. Camp Mundo Vista is having a fundraiser. They are in the process of replacing the old beds with some bunk beds and some single beds in each cabin. They are challenging each association/church to help fund at least one bed each. To donate you can send a check to WMU-NC and send to: P.O. Box 18309, Raleigh, N.C Camp Mundo Vista is owned and by WMU-NC.

5 WMU-FO Ladies Groups will need to decide how to disperse monies for the China project this year. We have $1798 available to give to some charitable organization or project within our community. So far the recommedations for 2017 monies are: FBC-FO Food Pantry and SECU Hospice in Smithfield. JBA-WMU Quarterly Meeting is Saturday, October 7th at 9:00 AM at the JBA Office. CHECK OUT THE WMU BULLETIN BOARD LOCATED ACROSS FROM THE PRAYER ROOM FOR ANY NEWS ITEMS. ACTEENS AND GIRLS IN ACTION GROUPS ALSO HAVE SPACE FOR ITEMS AVAILABLE. Samaritan s Purse Operation Christmas Child Item for OCTOBER: Donations to help in mailing shoeboxes Preschool News The Preschool is off to a great start! We have thirty-eight students enrolled. Our Mom s Morning Out Program on Friday has approximately fourteen students in attendance. During September we learned about Yucky Germs, Transportation, Cowboys, and Fall. Pastor John did devotion during Transportation Week and each child got to sit on his motorcycle. During Cowboy Week, Kelly Coats, co-owner of Hillcrest Farms in Smithfield shared items used for horseback riding and each student got to sit on a saddle. Ms. Nancy, librarian came and read two stories for assembly. October will be fun with Pet Week, Community Helpers, Farming, and a trip to the Pumpkin Patch. The Preschoolers will have their Trick or Treat on October 30th and 31st in the FH. If any church members would like to pass out candy, please call Carol Adams at the Preschool. ( ) HELP NEEDED As we all know the Food Pantry can always use help in carrying out it s mission of feeding the hungry in our community. Over the next few months we will be in critical need for volunteers to step up and help in the Food Pantry. Jack and Marilyn will be visiting family and will be away most of November and December. During their absence there is only ONE other couple who help in the Food Pantry on a regular basis. If you are willing to help in filling this need (especially during their absence), please contact the church office or Marilyn Parker. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
