CELEBRATION SUNDAY WORSHIP SCHEDULE Today, May 21 There will only be two worship services today, Celebration Sunday. These are scheduled for 8:30 and 11:00 am and will both be taking place in the Sanctuary. Let us celebrate the youth who have gone through Confirmation class this year and have named and claimed their faith for themselves. Join us as we celebrate how far they ve come and pray about the path that lies ahead of them. SUMMER WORSHIP SCHEDULE Sunday, May 28 through September 3 Summer will be arriving soon and so too will our summer worship schedule. From May 28 through September 3, there will be only two worship services on Sundays. They will be at 9:00 and 10:30 am in the Sanctuary. FAMILY GARDEN WORK DAY Cancelled for Today Family Garden Work Day has been cancelled for this afternoon. We are sorry for any inconvenience. 2 Upcoming Events SPRING MUSIC EVENT May the Horse Be With You Today / 4:00 pm in the Sanctuary May is the month for horse racing in Arlington Heights, and while we can t have any horses racing in the Sanctuary, we can have a concert! Join us for the closing concert of the series, featuring an eclectic mix of vocal and instrumental performances by Marianne Kim, Kristen Walter, and Steven Walter. FAMILY NIGHT Final Family Night of this year s programming calendar!!! Gather with friends, learn, and grow! Wednesday, 6:00-8:00 pm / Visit fpcah.org/family_night. Weekly Schedule: 6:00-7:00 pm: Drop-in dinner time for all ages, Fellowship Hall Menu for May 24: Hot dogs, brats, burgers, BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans, vegetables, watermelon, salads (pasta and lettuce salads) 7:00-8:00 pm: We will be celebrating a successful year of Family Night! Join us for a celebration in our parking lot, filled with games, side walk chalk, bags, and bubbles! A book fair for children through grade 5 will also be happening too! PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN SALAD LUNCHEON Wednesday, May 24 / 11:30 am in Fellowship Hall All women are invited to the annual Salad Luncheon, the closing program of the year for Presbyterian Women. The gathering will begin with beautiful violin music by Jennifer Silk, Strings of Silk Music. Next, enjoy a delicious salad luncheon and get to know other women of First Pres. The afternoon concludes with the announcement of the Honorary Life Member recipient and the installation of next year s coordinating team. Please bring a salad to serve six to eight, for sharing. SHOP EARLY AT THE RUMMAGE SALE For those of you who would like to get a jump on their rummage sale shopping, be sure to stop by the Narthex beginning June 4 to purchase your rummage pre-sale ticket. A limited number of tickets will be available for $10 each beginning June 4, and available on Sundays until June 18, or until tickets are sold out. Your pre-sale ticket gets you and your immediate family into the pre-sale from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on Thursday, June 22. MEN S MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY Meet the guys tomorrow, 6:30-7:30 am, in the Parlor. Read Chapters 38 of We Make the Road by Walking, and Deuteronomy 15:1-11; 1 Timothy 6:3-19; 2 Corinthians 8:1-15. 3 Serving, Giving, and Growing SWIMSUITS FOR SISSETON Today We will be collecting new and/or gently used boys and girls swimsuits for the children in Sisseton. Any size suits are greatly appreciated, but we especially need girls sizes A donation drop off area will be located next to the Welcome Center. Monetary donations will also be accepted. For more information regarding the South Dakota Mission Trip please contact Cathy Walker at cmswalker966@att.net or BREAD FOR THE WORLD OFFERING OF LETTERS Today Join in writing a letter to your congressperson and senators today in the Narthex. In the United States, one in six children struggles with hunger. Tell Congress to invest in key programs that have a proven track record and improve the lives of hungry men, women, and children. Our words make a difference in making God s Word alive in the world for all God s children. DINE OUT TO SUPPORT FAITH COMMUNITY HOMES Today Monday, May The Arlington Heights California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), at 3 S. Evergreen Ave., will donate 20 percent of your check to First Pres mission partner Faith Community Homes when you dine in or take out a meal anytime, May If you are planning to eat out anyway, please help to maximize this fundraiser, whose proceeds will support the families served by Faith Community Homes. This evening, why not take in the final concert of the First Pres Concert Series at 4:00 pm and then go out for dinner at CPK? Flyers are available in the church office and at the Welcome Center. Simply present your flyer at the restaurant and a donation will be made! MEMORIAL DAY PARADE HOSPITALITY Monday, May 29 First Pres will once again extend hospitality to parade viewers on Monday morning, May 29, providing free restrooms and offering refreshments for a donation. Register at fpcah.org/children Maker Fun Factory Vacation Bible School (VBS) is for kids 4 years old through entering fourth grade. Registration ($25) includes a T-shirt and VBS music CD or digital download. MissionFactory is for kids entering fifth and sixth grades, and focuses on daily mission activities, both on- and offsite. Registration ($25) includes a custom T-shirt. Both programs will run 8:45 am noon each day. More News GOD S HONEST TRUTH Have you heard of the Moth Radio Hour on National Public Radio? The Adult Education Committee has planned its own variation on this popular live storytelling medium. Now you can participate in two evenings of live storytelling at First Pres, featuring real stories shared, in person, by fellow church members. We re calling these events God s Honest Truth. The first storytelling gathering will take place Wednesday, May 31, at 7:00 pm, with the theme: Barriers: Stories About Overcoming Life s Challenges. Challenges faced can be large or small, and may include overcoming fears or loss. The second gathering will be Wednesday, July 12, at 7:00 pm, with the theme: Independence: Stories About People Claiming Their Independence. Contact Alex Lang, at alexlang@fpcah.org or , to share your story. Stories must be 5-10 minutes in length and will be developed with guidance from Alex. ENGRAVED BRICK ORDERS Engraved bricks in the Memorial Prayer Garden honor loved ones and friends, living or deceased, in a beautiful setting. Engraved bricks require a donation of $50 for two lines of 12 characters and spaces or a donation of $65 for three lines of 12 characters and spaces. Forms are available in the form rack by the church office. For installation in the Fall of 2017, please have your orders in by Monday, June 26. Bricks are ordered once each year and are installed only in the Fall, usually September or October. Late orders will not be ordered until next year. Mail or deliver your completed order form and attached check to the church office. If you have questions, you may contact Betty Launer at SUMMER OFFICE HOURS The church office will close at 12:30 pm each Friday from May 26 through September 1. Regular office hours will remain in effect on Monday through Thursday: 8:30 am 4:30 pm.
