RSVP by June 1: Alexa Tharp, or PASTOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE UPDATE Since the beginning of the year, the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) has been using a sailboat as our theme. The idea was first introduced at the leadership retreat, where we were encouraged to imagine what it would be like to stop rowing and let the Holy Spirit be the wind in our sails, guiding and encouraging our church into the future God has planned for us. Have you ever felt the presence of the Holy Spirit as a wind at your back, gently guiding, protecting, and nourishing you? When we pulled in our oars and hoisted our sail in January to continue our task of finding the pastor God is calling to First Pres, we had no idea where the wind would take us, but we put our trust in the Holy Spirit. Our future pastor is sailing these same seas of trust and discernment. Please keep our candidates and their families, and the PNC and our families, in your prayers. It s a good day for a sail! SOUTH DAKOTA MISSION SWIMSUITS COLLECTION The South Dakota Mission Team is rounding up swimsuits for the trip to South Dakota (June 22-28). Visiting the local swimming pool is a daily highlight for the Dakota Sioux kids involved in the mission team s Vacation Bible School program. Most of these children are unable to pay the pool admission fee, and most lack swimsuits. Will you help again this year by donating new or gently used swimsuits? All sizes will be accepted, but the team is in particular need of large and extra large children s swimsuits and adult swimsuits. Women s swimsuits should be one-piece. BOARD OF DEACONS Final Week for Prison Ministry Toiletries Collection You can make a real difference in the life of an inmate at Logan Women s Prison, in Lincoln, Illinois. The toiletries you provide are a way to meet the inmates needs and to let them know that people care and they are not forgotten. A collection bin sponsored by the Board of Deacons will be in the Narthex through the end of May. The following items are needed: 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner (16 oz.); toothpaste (4 or 6 oz.); full sized bath soap; and full sized lotion. Contact: Denise Poy, or viper28mdb@sbcglobal.net. Food Ministry Team Forming The Board of Deacons is forming a Food Ministry Team, a group of volunteers to prepare (or purchase) and deliver meals to church members in need. Stephanie is glad to be back home with First Pres and excited to worship in the finding grace service.
