SPECIAL MEETING TO ELECT PASTOR The Session has called a special meeting of the congregation on Sunday, July 14, for the purpose of electing a Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights and approving Terms of Call. The congregation will have an opportunity to vote after either 9:00 or 10:30 am worship. The meeting will begin in the Chapel at the close of finding grace worship, at 9:45 am. Please note that seating in the Chapel is limited to 130 persons (fire code). The meeting will resume at 11:30 am in the Sanctuary. The candidate will preach at both services July 14. Judy completed a pastoral internship at First Pres in April and graduated from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in May. She is currently in the process of becoming ready to receive a call for ministry. Welcome back, Judy! SUMMER READING Coffee: Grounds for Discussion (a gathering and education time for parents of young families) will start the fall education program with a book discussion on Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back, by Todd Burpo with Lynn Vincent, and Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon s Journey into the Afterlife, by Eben Alexander. Consider reading one or both of these recent best sellers this summer and then join the group in the fall for a book discussion on Sunday mornings. 3 Serving, Giving, and Growing DEACONS SHOE DRIVE FOR WINGS The WINGS Shoe Drive is just around the corner. In the coming weeks the deacons are excited to sponsor the fourth annual effort to provide new shoes for the children supported by WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger). Look for the Shoe Drive table and Shoe Tree in the Narthex throughout July and learn how you can once again help a child s school year start off on the right foot. Questions? She recently graduated with her master s of divinity from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. At 4:00 pm on July 7, she will be ordained at our church into an expanded role at the Presbyterian Outlook as the associate editor for Connections. She also works as associate editor for Call to Worship, a quarterly publication for worship leaders that comes out of the PC(USA) Office of Theology and Worship in Louisville. More News CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED ON INDEPENDENCE DAY The church office will be closed for business on July 4. Happy Independence Day! ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE: SATURDAY, JULY 27 Mark your calendars and bring your aluminum cans to the church s East Parking Lot (9:00-11:00 am). Proceeds support Men s Bible Study sponsored charities. Contact Stan to recycle copper items or have cans picked up. The last drive, on April 27, brought in $74.25 for pounds of cans. Thanks! Contacts: Stan and Nancy Conning, WILLOW HOUSE VOLUNTEER NEEDED Since 1999, First Pres has hosted the Arlington Heights Willow House support group for children and families grieving the loss of a parent, child, or sibling. This group is in need of a volunteer to help greet participants and assist with setup and takedown of dinner. Willow House meets on the second Thursday evening of the month.
