2 Pastor s Ponderings Pastor Chris Hilliard & his wife Elisabeth Some people rob God (Malachi 3:8-10). Other's try to bribe Him. Sometimes without realizing it. The offering plate is being passed again and the weekly debate begins. "Man, I really should be tithing to the church but, I simply can't do that right now. Maybe I'll just throw something in. I'll put in a twenty. That ought to do. Preacher's only going to give us a ten dollar sermon anyway as usual. So, twenty ought to be plenty. I'm sure God will accept that. That ought to please Him." The plate passes. The twenty is dropped in. And another one in the pew hopes God is happy. It wasn't a tithe (ten percent of their gross income). It wasn't an offering (a gift above and beyond the tithe). So, what was it? An inadvertent bribe (for some it may be deliberate). A gift they hope pleases God. But, let's not forget the lesson King Saul learned the hard way when he sought to offer a sacrifice to God. The prophet Samuel told him, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams." 1 Samuel 15:22 God isn't impressed with my sacrifices and offerings. He desires my obedience. "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments." It is difficult for all of us, but be assured of our love for you. You know my heart, and you know that I would not have taken this step if I did not think I was in God s will. Let us all continue to pray and seek the wisdom of God as we go forward. We can be confident of His strength and unfailing love as we prayerfully seek His will. I know many are concerned about the changes that may be occurring in our Worship Ministry, but I have given some thought to some things for which I am thankful that are not changing: Andy Daughtry Pastor of Worship & Discipleship & his wife Laura I am thankful for a congregation that loves to sing and participate in worship; I am thankful for a choir, orchestra and worship team who are faithful to prepare to serve with excellence, passion, and integrity; I am thankful for a supportive pastor who preaches the Word of God boldly, leads with conviction and clarity, and is an active and faithful participant in worship; I am thankful for church leadership that values excellence in worship and provides the necessary resources to conduct corporate worship in a manner worthy of the Lord s work; I am thankful that our all-knowing, unchanging Lord is still in control, and it is HE alone who is worthy of our worship, and that HE empowers all that we do, and that HE will equip His people to serve. All Things In Christ, Steve Shierling YOUTH DEPT. NEEDS: Sunday School Teachers Please call the church office and let us know if you feel God calling you to teach this group. MISSION MOMENTS: Acts 1:8 On the last trip to Peru, we took a couple of days and visited Rolando and Luci at their home in the jungle. While there we visited the school and clinic where Luci s father is the practicing P.A. at the clinic. He is also the Pastor of the Christian Church in the village. While at the school I saw two children go down to the river and collect water in a five gallon bucket. They brought it back and set it down in the shade on the playground of the school. It had a cup in it and the kids would go and get a drink of water when they got thirsty. My heart broke. The water was brown in color and definitely not sanitary. Teachers asked at the school if we could help them get clean water for the kids. We said we would pray about it. We could not commit to anything at the time. I did find out that there is not a group from the States who has adopted this area through the IMB. I know we cannot adopt another area, however, I think we can help with this problem. I researched online and with a five gallon bucket, some pvc pipe and fittings and sand and gravel we could provide a portable filtration system to give them fresh drinking water using the river water. This is still in the planning stages but I think we can provide the materials, purchased in Peru, and get the six or so upper grade students to actually put them together as a school project. The small church congregation could get one system to each home and of course provide systems for the school. The bucket could have stickers of the plan of salvation using John 4:14, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." I pray that you will see this as a doable project and I look forward to see those kids at the school getting a bucket of brown water from the Amazon River and it being transformed to safe drinkable water. Hey Everyone, We now have the ability to send our church newsletter electronically! Also, we now have it on our church website as well. The format is different but the content is the same as the one we send through regular mail. Take a look at it and let us know what you think! Also, if you'd prefer to solely receive the newsletter through just let us know and we'll put you on our newsletter list.
