For this offering, Presbyterian women from around the world contribute the smallest coins from their country as a symbol of their prayers for peace and reconciliation throughout the world. Any paper money at meetings is given to the Healthy Women Healthy Families, a PCUSA ministry that provides maternal and child health care including mosquito nets and vaccinations in developing countries around the world. PW also makes Mothers Day cards available each spring for a donation to this worthy ministry. Each fall the Thank Offering is collected as a symbol of each woman s gratitude for all the blessings she has received and in the spring a Birthday Offering is collected. All offerings are voluntary. The offerings connect us to Presbyterian women world- wide as together we support Presbyterian initiatives. Small donations multiply like the loaves and fishes. Women s Retreat Each fall PW hosts an annual Women s Retreat at the William Black Lodge in Montreat, NC. This is an opportunity for women to experience a weekend of prayer, reflection and discussion led by a facilitator and to enjoy the fellowship and recreation opportunities of the North Carolina mountains. In 2016, Debbie Dodson Parsons led workshops on Generations. Dates for the 2017 Women's Retreat are September 15-17th.

5 Soup and Salad Suppers Periodically, the PW has soup and salad suppers for all women of the church. These simple, program free evenings allow women of all ages to get to know other women in the church family without having to bring a dish. Day of Service Presbyterian Women provides lunch for the church workers on Day of Service as well as providing food for the church Blood Drive, Room at the Inn and Habitat Building days. These are annual events sponsored by Community Missions.

6 Alternative Gift Fair Each year Presbyterian Women joins with members of Global and Community Missions to hold an Alternative Gift Fair. Members of the congregation and the community learn about missions supported by the church and can buy gifts to support local non-profits such as Ada Jenkins Center, the Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center, the Housing Coalition, La Escuelita San Alban, SPOKES and E2D, to our mission partners at Blythe, Sigona and Nicaragua and groups such as A2S, Mothering Across Continents, the Nepal Orphans Home. Gifts purchased at the fair continue giving throughout the year.

7 Birthday Offering Brunch The birthday brunch is a tradition of Presbyterian Women. Held in the spring, there is a speaker on a mission project supported by the church. The Birthday Offering started by Hallie Paxton in 1922 is collected. Women are challenged to give at least a penny for each year of their age to support groups selected by a committee of PCUSA Presbyterian Women. and to celebrate the birthday of Presbyterian women as a group. The Lifetime membership award is also given at this event. An Honorary Life Membership is conferred on an individual in recognition of faithful service in some area of the church and is commemorated with a pin and a certificate.
