1 Annie Ivey Melvin 06/26/2006 Annie Ivey Melvin, 93, of 403 S. 17th St., Erwin, died Saturday morning, June 24, 2006, at her home. She was retired from Burlington Mills. She was the daughter of the late Noel and Maggie Stancil Ivey. Funeral services were held this morning at 11 at Erwin Church of God by the Rev. Alton Childers. Burial followed at LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Survivors include a son, Bill Melvin and wife Brenda of Raleigh; grandchildren, Kimberle Melvin of Charlotte, Charity McKenzie and husband Allan of High Point, Bucky Melvin and wife Mary of Jupiter, Fla.; and a great-grandchild, Katie McKenzie. A service of Price Funeral Home. Annie Pauline Ivey McLamb 8/4/2005 Annie Pauline Ivey McLamb, 64, of 600 Canal Drive, Dunn, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 3, 2005, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Mrs. McLamb, a Harnett County native, was born Dec. 24, 1940, to the late Eldridge and Volena Stewart Ivey. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Lynette Daughtry; a son, Donald Daughtry; and a grandson, Daniel Nelson. She was retired from Burlington Industries in Erwin. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Sansom Community Church by the Rev. Jerome Pope and David Morrison. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include daughters, Sylvia Miller and husband Teddy of Dunn, Jenny Nelson and husband Roger of Bethel; a son, Martin Lee Register Jr. and wife Kim of Dunn; brothers, Robert Ivey and wife Betty, Linwood Ivey and wife Brenda, all of Dunn; sisters, Grace Langdon, Velma Ivey, Willadean Bullard and husband Frank, Lena Ruth Edwards and husband James, all of Dunn, and Doris Moore of Wade; and grandchildren, Justin Miller, Amanda Miller, Amberly Register, Wesley Nelson, Lizzie Nelson and Kally Nelson. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at Sansom Community Church and other times at the home of Sylvia and Teddy Miller, 1605 Brunswick Drive, Dunn. 2 Callie Ivey Ferrell Friday, November 21, 2003 Callie Ivey Ferrell, 101, of Savannah, Ga., formerly of Wade, died Thursday in Savannah. The Sampson County native was a daughter of the late Drewy V. and Sarah Beasley Ivey and the widow of Ollie T. Ferrell. She was preceded in death by brothers, Charlie Ivey, Guthrie Ivey, Needham Ivey and Hess Ivey; and a sister, Ozzie I. Autry. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home by the Rev. Melinda Ivey. Burial will be in Hodges Chapel Cemetery. David Ivey Charlotte Observer, The (NC) April 5, 2004 MONROE - Mr. Ivey, 82, died Friday, April 2, 2004 at his home. Born February 10, 1922 in Wake County, son of the late Albert H. and Cora A. Ivey. A memorial service to celebrate the life of David will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Central United Methodist Church with inurnment in the Central UMC Columbarium Garden. Ivey, 82, died Tuesday evening at his home near Benson after a long period of ill-health. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at Hannah's Creek Primitive Baptist church of which he had been a member for the past 12 years. Interment was in thre church cemetery. A son of the late Vine and Nicy Ivey of Johnston County, Mr. Ivey is survived by six children, Dewey of Dunn, Duffy, Delbert, David, Mrs. Lovie Pope, and Mrs. Nicy Allen, all of the Benson community. Surviving also are three sisters, Mrs. M. L. Pope, Mrs. W. L. Johnson, Mrs. J. N. Norris; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

4 David Osbin Ivey Smithfield Herald October 5, 1965 Man Killed When Car Falls on Him David O. Ivey, 56-year-old farmer of Route 3, Benson, was killed Friday afternoon when an automobile on which he was working fell from a jack onto him and crushed the upper portion of his body. Coroner V. J. Underwood ruled the death an accident and said no inquest is planned. Mr. Ivey was a native of Johnston County. He was a son of the late David H. and Ava Tart Ivey. The funeral was conducted at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Rose Funeral Chapel in Benson. Elder Lester Lee officiated. Interment was in Devotional Gardens in Dunn. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lela Ivey; two daughters, Mrs. Faith Lee and Mrs. Elaine Creech, both of Raleigh; three sons, Donald M. Ivey of the home and Julius A. and Delma H. Ivey, both of Raleigh; two brothers, Duffie Ivey of Route 3 Four Oaks, and Delbert A. Ivey of Benson; two sisters, Mrs. J. B. Pope of Route 2, Four Oaks, and Mrs. V. B. Allen of Four Oaks, and three grandchildren. Delma Henry Ivey 10/12/2004 Delma Henry Ivey, 63, of 3604 W. Mill Forest Court, Raleigh, died Sunday after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig s disease). He was born April 30, 1941, to the late David O. and Lela Lee Ivey of Benson. A utility contractor in the Raleigh area since 1978, Mr. Ivey along with his sons owned and operated Ivey Utilities. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Midway Baptist Church, where he was a member for many years. Interment will follow at Devotional Gardens in Dunn. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Wood Ivey; sons, Jerry M. Ivey and wife Kim, and Jason D. She was born in Wake County on December 9, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Albert H. Ivey and Cora Atkins Ivey. Mrs. Branton was a member of Greenwood Forest Baptist Church and the widow of David H. Branton. She is survived by her brothers, Frank N. 7 Guthrie Odell Ivey 03/21/2004 G. Odell Ivey, 73, of 585 Hayes Mill Road, Autryville, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was born in 1930 in Sampson County to the late William Guthrie and Lellar Marie Carroll Ivey. He was a member of Baptist Chapel Church, the Clement Senior Citizens and he played in the Rhythm Band. Mr. Ivey was a lifetime member of Clement Volunteer Fire Department and was a retired employee with the Department of Transportation Sixth Division. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lilma Williams; and brothers, Isaac Ivey and Willis Ivey. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Baptist Chapel Baptist Church by the Revs. Alan Roberts and Steven King. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. James Kelly Weeks March 24, 1997 James ''Kelly'' Weeks, 65, of Willow Spring, formerly of Dunn, died Saturday in his home. He was owner and operator of Weeks Trucking and a veteran of the Korean War, earning the Purple Heart. She was born Dec. 18, 1923, to the late Almond and Dollie Capps Ivey of Johnston County. She was a retired employee of Erwin Mills. 11 Marcella Wood Ivey Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Notice 02/09/2008 Mrs. Marcella Wood Ivey, 87, of Dunn died Friday morning at her residence. The Sampson County native was a daughter of the late Ernest and Estella Barefoot Wood. Mrs. Ivey was a sales manager with Super Dollar. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Lisa Johnson and Rev. Jerome Pope officiating. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens. Surviving are her husband James H. Cooter Ivey, sons: James H. Ivey, Jr. and wife Vickie of Dunn, Terry Ivey and wife Kay, Brent Ivey both of Benson, daughters: Sharon I. Mary Frances Ivey Hawkins Plain Dealer, The (Cleveland, OH) August 29, 1995 Mary Frances Ivey Hawkins was among the 119 women who were in the organizing class of the Navy's WAVES at Smith College, New Hampton, Mass., in August The WAVES - Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service - was created by an act of Congress on July 30, Mrs. Hawkins was selected for the Navy's first female commissioned officers' cadre. Mrs. Hawkins of Mentor died Sunday at Lake East Hospital in Painesville. She was 81. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Durham, N.C., and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Duke University. She worked on a major publication of the life and works of Percy Bysshe Shelley. She also was on the faculty of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, S.C., before her Navy career. Leaving Smith College, Mrs. Hawkins was assigned as the senior WAVES officer for procurement at Raleigh, N.C. Later, she became executive assistant director of Naval History in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Hawkins, who rose to the rank of lieutenant commander, worked with Naval historian Samuel Eliot Morison, author of the 15-volume History of U.S. Naval Operations in World War II.

12 A highlight of her Navy career was representing the WAVES and giving a speech on July 28, 1944, at the launching of the USS Southampton at the North Carolina Shipbuilding Co. yard in Wilmington, N.C. "For the 14,000 ships afloat, there are over 70,000 WAVES at home, in Navy bases, in training schools, and in Washington, writing the letters that bring ships into being, carrying messages, supervising supplies, transmitting plans for action that will bring glory and victory to our Navy and to our flag," she said at the time. Mrs. Hawkins married Robert Martin Hawkins of Cleveland on Jan. 20, 1945, in Washington, D.C. They met while he was serving in the armed forces induction station at Fort Bragg, N.C. The couple returned to Ohio in 1954 and have lived in Mentor for more than 40 years.
