Vivat Jesu! Knight of the Quarter Brother Knight Deacon Costa Adamopolous was selected as the Council s Knight of the Quarter for exemplifying our principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity. Family of the Quarter The family of Brother Knight Kenneth and Lillian Devine was selected as the Council s Family of the Quarter for their demonstrated love and devotion to each other, their family, and their faith. What a way to start the New Year! We will continue our kick-off with a first degree initiation, corporate communion, the installation ceremony and awards dinner on Saturday, July 25 th. Membership allows him to experience the fraternal bond that Knights share while growing closer to his family and faith. Last fraternal year, , we surpassed our recruiting goal by 133 percent! Making it our best recruiting year in ten years! I want to thank Narragansett Council for a fantastic year. Your dedication to the Knights is greatly appreciated. That is why the Knights of Columbus is so potentially powerful when people see the good we do, the charity that evangelizes, they see the positive influence of the Catholic faith, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson said. Council Advocate Brother Ray Tomao A revision of the By-Laws has been submitted for review and will be mailed to each member. This revision will align our by-laws with those approved by the Supreme Council. The by-laws revision will be voted on at the August business meeting. Page2

3 Good of the Order As we did last year, a fraternal survey will be sent to all Brothers of Council 21. Please fill out the survey and return it at the next meeting, mail it back, or scan and it to us. We can t fix what we don t know is broken! The next business meeting has been moved to the Immaculate Conception Church hall on Wednesday, 5 August at 7:30 pm. Council Committee. The Installation Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, July 25 at the Immaculate Conception Church and hall. The schedule of events are: 2:00 pm First Degree Initiation in the Church Hall (Knights attendance only) 4:00 pm Corporate Communion in the Church (Families attend Mass together) 5:30 pm Installation of Officers Ceremony in the Church (Open to everyone) 6:30 pm Awards Dinner in the Church Hall (Dinner provided by the Council, Desserts provided by Members) All Brother Knights and their Families are strongly encouraged to attend. Please contact the Program Director, John Sutcliffe, Deputy Grand Knight, Mike Panciera, or Grand Knight Mike Miller for more information and to give a head count. Community Committee Brother Mike Alice The Blue Mass at Immaculate Conception Church will be the 3 rd annual celebration of Mass for our Police, Fire and Emergency Services. The Mass will be Saturday, 4:00 pm on September 27. Brother Knights who are members of the Police, Fire and Emergency Services are asked to join us in Uniform. Help is also needed to help spread the word, provide greeter services before Mass and set up the coffee an that will follow. Church. The June Rosary was led by Brother Knight Seminarian Stephen Battey. The Glorious Mystery reflections were for the fathers and father-figures in our lives. The Litany of St Joseph was prayed. Brother Knight, Father Giudice also spoke. Thank you to all who participated. The council handed out the booklet, The Gift of Fatherhood (what every man should know), to all attending Fathers. The St Pius X Church Hall is in the process of being cleaned and waxed. Because of this, there will not be a collation following the monthly Rosary in July and August. Check Presentation to School Principal Henry Fiore last month was for the construction of the fence to help keep the school grounds safe. Page3

4 Council Activities and Budget Workshop. On July 22 nd at the St Pius X Church Hall, all interested Knights are strongly encouraged to attend a workshop to produce a calendar of activities for the fraternal year and for the first time, produce a budget to make it happen. If you have a charitable or fundraising event that you want included YOU need to be there and tell us! Contact the Programs Director, John Sutcliffe, for more information. Culture of Life Projects Carpool with Knights, families and friends to the Women s Medical Center one Saturday a month (July 18 th ) to be the voice of the voiceless. We leave the lower parking lot of Immaculate Conception Church at 7:00 am and return before 10:00 am. For more information, contact the Grand Knight. The Gabriel Project. Hello! St. Gabriel s Call is in need of strollers and a couple of double strollers too! Please check your garages, basements and attics for strollers you are not using any longer. Maybe your children or grandchildren have outgrown their stroller we would be more than happy to pick them up. Call or me Thank you! Carol A. 6 USCCB>Media > News Releases > SUPREME COURT DECISION ON MARRIAGE A TRAGIC ERROR SAYS PRESIDENT OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS CONFERENCE WASHINGTON The U.S. Supreme Court decision, June 26, interpreting the U.S. Constitution to require all states to license and recognize same-sex marriage is a tragic error that harms the common good and most vulnerable among us, said Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The full statement follows: Regardless of what a narrow majority of the Supreme Court may declare at this moment in history, the nature of the human person and marriage remains unchanged and unchangeable. Just as Roe v. Wade did not settle the question of abortion over forty years ago, Obergefell v. Hodges does not settle the question of marriage today. Neither decision is rooted in the truth, and as a result, both will eventually fail. Today the Court is wrong again. It is profoundly immoral and unjust for the government to declare that two people of the same sex can constitute a marriage. The unique meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman is inscribed in our bodies as male and female. The protection of this meaning is a critical dimension of the integral ecology that Pope Francis has called us to promote. Mandating marriage redefinition across the country is a tragic error that harms the common good and most vulnerable among us, especially children. The law has a duty to support every child s basic right to be raised, where possible, by his or her married mother and father in a stable home. Jesus Christ, with great love, taught unambiguously that from the beginning marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman. As Catholic bishops, we follow our Lord and will continue to teach and to act according to this truth. I encourage Catholics to move forward with faith, hope, and love: faith in the unchanging truth about marriage, rooted in the immutable nature of the human person and confirmed by divine revelation; hope that these truths will once again prevail in our society, not only by their logic, but by their great beauty and manifest service to the common good; and love for all our neighbors, even those who hate us or would punish us for our faith and moral convictions.
