9 9 Howdy Cousins, I have been busy this fall. Several of us attended the GBOA in Indianapolis representing the TXSOMD. Thanks to each person for attending. I represented the society as a guest of the Arkansas Society for their Compact Meeting in November as well as attending meetings in Austin. Health issues prevented me from enjoying the season but they have resolved and I am back to my tasks. Thanks to the BOA members, committee members and elected officers for helping to keep our mission on course. I have enjoyed serving as your Governor during the past two years and wish our incoming Governor and officers the best. Our Annual Meeting will be hosted by the Central Texas Colony in Austin. The colony has a fantastic meeting planned and we will elect our officers for Governor General Lea Filson will be the Guest Speaker and will install our new officers. As my term as Governor comes to a close, I want to thank everyone that served our society and wish everyone a Happy New Year! Rick Report from our DGG, Mike Nichols The next Triennial General Congress of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants will be September 8-13 this year. Attending Congress is always enjoyable. It s a nice time of year to be in Plymouth and we renew friendships, make new ones, and are part of deciding the future of our Society as well as electing the next set of Executive Committee members. This year the Texas Society is entitled to 26 delegates. Please plan to join us in the Texas delegation. Let me know if you are planning to attend. If you are not attending the Annual Meeting, you can me at nichols.ms@gmail.com. Registration information will appear in an upcoming issue of the Mayflower Quarterly. The General Board of Assistants (GBOA) meets to conduct the business of the Society on the years between Congress meetings. The 2016 GBOA meeting was in Indianapolis, Indiana. The meeting started with an Information Day on Friday, September 9. There was an open meeting of Member Society Governors discussing the Role of Governors and other topics. The discussion showed that many of the member societies have the same concerns regarding retaining members and keeping Junior members. Part of the discussion regarding Junior members is reflected in the proposed changes to our Texas Society Bylaws. One of the best parts of the day was the Governor Generals Forum in the afternoon. The new DNA Policy was discussed, and we will have a session regarding that at our Texas Annual Meeting in Austin. We also discussed many other topics. In my opinion, this open discussion was so effective that we held a Texas version for our Texas Society and Colony officers in October.
