1 VETS NEWS Saturday, January 5, 2019 CLICK HERE to go to the Worcester County District 4 American Legion website CLICK HERE to send to the VETS NEWS editor Chinatown Post 328 does participate in events. Here are some highlights of 2018 with photos CHINATOWN POST 328 August 12, 2018, Post 328 setup a membership drive booth at Boston Chinatown August Moon Festival. Governor Charlie Baker came to the Festival and had picture with post members. October 8, 2018, Post 328 members marched at the Chinatown Ten Ten Parade to commemorate China s Independence Day in 1917, the date that the Chinese people overthrew the Dynasty and became a Republic. November 11, 2018, Post members marched at the Boston s Veterans Day Parade. The parade route was from Charles Street to Boylston, to Tremont to City Hall Plaza. Submitted to VETS NEWS by David Ching, Adjutant/Past Commander During December 2018, post members setup a booth at Chinatown Gate and Boston Greenway for soliciting toys from local residents and tourists, for ages six to eight school children, of the two Chinese schools in Chinatown. After three weekend efforts, over 300 toys were collected from the residents, and tourists. A week before the Christmas school vacation, our senior vice played Santa Claus for passing out toys to the smiling children.

2 LEGION POST HELPED MAKE VETERANS HOLIDAYS BRIGHTER STERLING - For the past five years, members of the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 have gathered toiletries and other necessity and comfort items and given them to local veterans around the holidays. Longtime Legion member Robert Temple helps coordinate the outreach effort for this rewarding project and said the first year they served 27 veterans; this year, it was double that. The veterans distributed 50 gift bags to fellow veterans at Sterling Village in Sterling and Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston on Dec. 18. The veterans really appreciate being remembered and having a visit with us as we do the distribution of the gifts, Temple said. Those who help with the distribution of the gifts get as much, if not more joy, than the veterans who receive the gifts. The bags are packed with donated socks, T-shirts, comfortable lounging pants, shirts, sweaters, puzzle books, writing paper, pens, personal care items, handkerchiefs and more, anything that you think someone in a care facility would enjoy, Temple said. Around 20 Legion members participate in the project each year, collecting donations and helping to organize and pack the items. Temple keeps an inventory of the items and what else is needed. We appreciate all the donations that we receive, Temple said. That is what makes this such a great success. Items or monetary donations collected after distribution are used for other veteran needs and for next year. Monetary donations noted for Christmas gifts can be made out to and mailed to Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189, 30 School St., Sterling, MA For more information, including donating, Robert Temple at bobtemple189@gmail.com or call (978) (Telegram.com) Sterling s American Legion Hiram O. Taylor Post 189 Commander Doug Harvey packs his car with gifts to bring to veterans, donated by members of the connunity. Americn Legion Hiram O. Taylor Post 189 (from left) Commander Doug Harvey, post member Hank Noyes, Sergeant-at-Arms Joe Chiavaralorri, Junio Vice-Commander Jerry Boynton and Adjutant Robert Temple gather at the historic legion hall on School Street to load the gift bags into their vehicles for delivery to veterans.

3 (Barre Gazette) RED CROSS ANNOUNCES BLOOD DONATION OPPORTUNITIES DEDHAM The American Red Cross urges people to share their good health this holiday season by donating blood or platelets for patients in need. A decline in donations occurs from Thanksgiving to New Year s Day when donors are busy with holiday activities and travel. In addition, severe winter weather can cause blood drive cancellations and negatively affect the blood supply. As a thank-you for helping to meet the urgent need, those who give blood Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, through Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, will receive a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt while supplies last. Prospective donors may make appointments to give blood or platelets by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting or calling 1 (800) RED CROSS. Upcoming blood drive locations include the North Adams American Legion Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Berkshire Eagle) UPCOMING BLOOD DRIVES January p.m.: American Legion, 162 Winn St., Burlington 1/13/2019: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Chelmsford American Legion, 90 Groton Road 1/15/2019: 1 p.m. - 7 p.m., American Legion Burlington, 162 Winn St. (Lowell Sun)

7 AND OTHER VETERANS ACTIVITIES I AM 70-PLUS YEARS OLD, AND I HAVE SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS!!!! I still haven't found out who let the Dogs Out where's the beef...how to get to Sesame Street...why eggs are packaged in a flimsy paper carton, but batteries are secured in plastic that's tough as nails... why "abbreviated" is such a long word; or why is there a D in 'fridge' but not in refrigerator... why lemon juice is made with artificial flavor, yet dish-washing liquid is made with real lemons... why they sterilize the needle for lethal injections... and, why do you have to "put your two cents in" but it's only a "penny for your thoughts". Where's that extra penny going to? Why DID the chicken cross the road or which came first the chicken or the egg?...why do The Alphabet Song and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star have the same tune... why did you just try to sing those two previous songs... and just what is Victoria's secret?
