1 The Gift of Christ and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else s foundation, but as it is written, Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand. Romans 15:20-21 The Apostle Paul spoke clearly about the mission on which God had set him, to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named. Churches often make a grave mistake in ignoring Paul s heart here. Church growth in this country consists largely of convincing someone to leave one local congregation and come to another one. Paul would not have approved. As the Body of Christ, our outreach needs to be focused on the un-churched, not the unhappily churched. The way we do this is by going to the un-churched, understanding their lives, and helping them to hear the truth of the gospel in a way they can comprehend. The task will be different depending on the person you are trying to reach. For some, it will be as simple as inviting them to a church service. For others, dinner in your home with some of your Christian friends will be a good starting point. Some may be too uncomfortable with the intimacy of your home and you might need to meet them in a neutral location like a restaurant or coffee shop. Some will be ready to start immediately talking about Christ, and there are others who will need to talk about more superficial things (like sports or television) for a while before they are comfortable sharing on a deeper level. The important thing is that we care enough about these people to actually invest in their lives so they might be able to hear about the marvelous saving grace of Christ. We often talk about keeping the Christ in Christmas. The best way to uphold this saying is by taking Christmas to the people and introducing them to our Christ. This doesn t just have to happen at Christmas time either. Christmas is one day. Christ is our Lord every day. So, let us use the Christmas day as an excuse to do the same thing we will do when Christmas is over. Let us share the gospel with those who need to hear it. Let us introduce everyone around us to our Lord Jesus Christ, today, tomorrow, and every day. PASTOR JOSH IN THE PULPIT A.M. The Type of Christ We Need, Jesus P.M. No Service Vol. 62 No. 51 / Friday, December 21, EHBC, Montgomery, AL

3 Good Neighbor Survey was a Success! Thank you for a great turn-out Sunday, December 16 at the churchwide survey of our neighbors within a ½-mile radius of EHBC! We not only met our goal for participation, including lots of youth and families, but received some good feedback and ideas as well. Special thanks go to Ron Myers for carefully mapping out the street assignments, which were noted by participants as being the easiest they ve had. We re also very grateful to Ben and Nalin Crocker for digitizing those street assignments and to Marie Anderson for printing our survey forms. Once all the feedback has been documented and analyzed, more details can be shared, ministries enhanced, and more needs met in the new year. Sharon Myers and the Outreach Ministry Team ATTENTION HUNTERS It s deer hunting season and there is a need for eight (8) processed deer for our Wild Game Dinner on March 2, For each deer donated you will receive a table for eight (8). This table will be for the entire deer being processed and will be on a first come basis. This year s guest speaker will be Ray Mears. It s very important that each deer processed be 1/2 burger and 1/2 cubed. Thank you in advance for your help! Any questions, please contact Larry Kennedy at at Eastmont here in Montgomery For College/ Young Singles Sign up in your SS class! Last day to sign up is Sunday, December 23. Contact Ben Crocker for questions, or c.ben1093@gmail.com Let s Make Christmas! This past Saturday our children experienced a wonderful time here at the church with their Let s Make Christmas event! The preschoolers and children made presents for their families as their parents were afforded a time for shopping or other errands. Thank you adult and teen volunteers who helped the children explore the true meaning of Christmas. THANK YOU to our children s minister, Pastor Greg Gosselin, for planning, leading and coordinating such a valued event! We need your pictures of deer, fish or any wild game. We would love to have you in the picture. These pictures will be shown on a large screen at the event. Please send pictures to Dan Harrison (dan@ehbconline.com) or Marie Anderson (mariea@ehbconline.com).
