Every joint seemed to ache worse every day and he dreaded trying to get out of bed. He hadn't slept well due to pain and worry over problems that had arisen in his finances that he could do nothing about in the state his body was in. Slowly he eased to the edge of the bed and forced himself to sit up. " Oh Lord", he thought, "just help me one more day." As he started to stand, his chest tightened and his legs collapsed from under him and everything went dark before his eyes and he never felt his body hit the floor...then soft light began to shine on his closed lids and he breathed the sweetest air he had ever known. A child's laugh caused him to open his eyes and he saw that he was sitting beside a huge meadow, full of people of all shapes and sizes, all smiling and so beautiful, wearing white robes that seemed to glow in the light. He saw children running and playing and he thought, " I only wish I could run with them." He looked at his feet and saw he was wearing a white robe too. He moved to stand and his legs moved in ways and with an ease that they never had before and he stood upright with absolutely no pain. He felt a smile begin on his face as he walked toward the others. He didn't know who they were but he knew he loved them, and their smiles and sweet voices let him know they loved him too. He had never been so happy and then...out of the crowd came a man...a man he had never seen but he knew well...it was Jesus. He fell at Jesus's feet as happiness washed over his new body and Jesus drew him up and embraced him and spoke the most beautiful word's he had ever heard," My child, welcome home." 5 CPWM changes meeting dates and times. CPWM will meet on the Second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. Come join us September 8th in the Church Fellowship Hall Health Corner On August the 10 th our church hosted a Life Line Screening event for our community. There were 41 people who participated in the cardiovascular screening that day. One of the educational handouts I had available during the event was on the warning signs of a Stroke. I want to share it with all of you. 795,000 people have strokes every year and 140,000 people will die from strokes each year. Someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds and someone dies every 4 minutes. About 87% of all strokes are ischemic strokes. An ischemic stroke is when the blood flow in an artery to the brain is blocked causing brain cells to die. The other type of stroke is a hemorrhagic stroke. A hemorrhagic stroke is when a blood vessel (artery) in the brain ruptures preventing the flow of blood causing brain cells to die. If a stroke occurs and the blood flow can t reach the region of the brain that controls a particular body function, that will result in part of the body not working as it should. The warning signs for both types of stroke are the same. It is important everyone knows the warning signs of a stroke. Getting proper treatment quickly for a stroke is very important. Listed below are the warning signs for a stroke everyone should know. American Stroke Association wants you to learn the word FAST to help remember the warning signs of a stroke: F- Face drooping Does one side of the face droop or does it feel numb? Ask the person to smile. Is one side of the face uneven? A-Arm weakness Is one arm weak or does it feel numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift down? S- Speech difficulty Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like, The sky is blue. Is the person able to correctly repeat the words? T- Time to call 911 If someone shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call and tell the operator, I think this is a stroke to help get the person to the hospital immediately. Time is important! Don t delay, and note the time the first symptoms appeared. Emergency responders will want to know. Additional symptoms to look for Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding language Sudden weakness or numbness of face, arm, or leg. Especially one side of the body Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes Sudden severe headache with unknown cause Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination If you re not sure call anyway Debbie Geier, Health Nurse
