3 D E C E M B E R P A G E 3 AS I See It In many ways I still enjoy Christmas as much as I did as a child. I enjoy the beautiful decorations in the form of lights and magical figures. I love to see various ways that people decorate their homes and to what extent they will go to catch an eye. Sometimes Clark Griswald of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation has nothing over some of the houses we see. However grand and glorious the decorations of one's house are, a nativity scene of any magnitude draws my eye to view it. My internal being is telling me to keep the main thing of the season the main thing. I am reminded of the love that it took to send Jesus to a hostile people who were and still are self-centered with way too much free will. Without the love of the Christ in our hearts, there really is no true joy in the season. I pray that we will give time to celebrating Christmas with family and friends. I pray that we will not lose sight that we are to celebrate the birth of the Christ. I challenge us to spend as much time in a worship mode and in hearing music which focuses on the Christian aspect of the holy days as we do in family gatherings and reveling with friends. Let it be your show of love for the Christ. The period of Advent, which is the four Sundays prior to Christmas, and the period of Christmas which ends on the 6th of January with Epiphany are holy days. They are to be thought of in this manner. We will conclude this period of time with receiving a Christ the King offering which will benefit the Istmina Cumberland Presbyterian Mission in Colombia, South America. I challenge each of us to give a financial gift equal to the average price of what we gave to others for Christmas gifts. Our church is a giving church which makes a difference on so many fronts. Let the people in the Istmina Cumberland Presbyterian Mission in Colombia, South America know that there are brothers and sisters in Christ in Mountain Home, AR, who care about the learning of Jesus and the commitment to serve Him. On December 24th, we will have the 10:30 AM service which will be the ONLY SERVICE of the day. We will still have Sunday school. It will be a special service to remind us of GOD's love toward us while we were yet sinners. The service will include a time of Holy Communion. Bring your families and houseguests so that all might celebrate the love of GOD and His Christ together. Thank you for the privilege of serving this church and community of believers in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Kim and I wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a Christ-filled New Year. Bro. 4 Thanksgiving Meal and Auction CPWM hosted the Thanksgiving meal and auction after church on November 19th. This year they raised $ ! Thank you to everyone for the great support of CPWM! We'll have another great year thanks to all of the help we receive! We are already planning events for 2018, so stay tuned!!!! A special thanks goes to Terry and Jerry for their amazing auctioneering skills, and to Richard Wallace for being our cashier.

5 Hanging of the Greens Each year we begin the advent season with the Hanging of the Greens. We learn about the symbolism of our decorations, but more importantly, we begin to prepare our hearts for the advent of our Savior. Thanks to everyone who stayed after church on December 3rd, and helped decorate for the Advent season. We all enjoyed pizza for lunch while we decorated. Betty and Sandra took care of the bulletin boards. It took many hands to get the tree up and lit. Decorations for the fellowship hall were designed by Donna and Sandy.
