The seats are too hard and uncomfortable. My parents took me to too many games when I was growing up! Some games went into overtime, it s too long to sit and I was late getting home. The half-time show was too long. It was too cold! I can watch it on TV or listen to it on the radio. The band played songs I didn t know! I couldn t hear or understand the announcer! The coach never came to call on me! I can be just as much of a fan and root for the team in the comfort of my house! The referee made a decision with which I disagreed! I don t want to take my children, because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like when they grow up! People sitting next to me weren t very friendly! Every time I go, they ask for money! but they seem to be OK for Sunday mornings! See you in Church. Pastor Josh

4 The Library Corner Highlighted Books for the Week: Children - Samson - At a time when the Philistines were oppressing Israel, God's angel told Manoah's wife that she would have a son. He would be a Nazirite, an especially dedicated servant of God to deliver His people from the Philistines. Read this Arch book to find out what happens. Book is in the Arch Book Spinner. Adult - Treatise on Good Works The Annotated Luther Study Edition - In sermons and pamphlets, Luther and his colleagues claimed that salvation came by faith alone and not by works. Although the better-known pamphlets of 1520 To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation Concerning the Improvement of the Christian Estate, The Babylonian Captivity of the Church, and The Freedom of a Christian would also appear, Timothy J. Wengert shows how Luther s Treatise on Good Works fulfilled Luther s own prediction that it would be one of the clearest and most accessible introductions to Luther s reforming work and theology. Luther s main goal was to commend a new, downto-earth piety to all Christians. This piety was new, because at its center was a radically different meaning of good works that would transform the way believers practiced their faith. This book is in the Reformation/Lutheran History section of our library. Our Anniversary year began last October with a rededication of the Chapel, and will conclude on October 14 with "Throw-back Sunday," recreating a liturgy from 50 years ago. We will also reveal a "Cloud of Witnesses" display. You are invited to name a person of the past or present who was/is a witness for Messiah. Perhaps it is a former pastor, Sunday School teacher, other church leader, etc. There is a poster in the narthex with "clouds" for you to take, write the person's name and a brief description, then return by October 7. (See Hebrews 12:1) Prayer Pillows will be given at both services on Sunday, September 30 th. Letters have been sent to families of two year olds. However, occasionally we have members who have not submitted dates of birth for their family members. If you are the parent of a two year old and have not received a letter, please call the church office, (570) , so we can update our records. Dresses and Britches for African Children: The backpacks are ready to go, but we still need to work hard on Dresses and Britches. We will continue to sew until the end of October, so join us if you can. A WELCA-SPONSORED EVENT: A Tour of "Sensory Gardens" Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 25 th at 6:00 p.m. Sharon Kuriga, Master Gardener, has invited members of Messiah to a TOUR of "Sensory Gardens" located at the Lysock Complex at 542 County Farm Road, Montoursville. Parking is in front of the building. Please bring picnic food and your own beverage for a PICNIC after the Tour at the home of Dianne and Mike Larson, 2036 Cummins Street, Montoursville. (Second house on the right after turning left onto Cummins Street from Warrensville Road) A SIGN-UP SHEET is on the bulletin board. Put the number attending and what casserole/veggie/dessert you are bringing. A WELCA CLUSTER GATHERING will be at St. James Lutheran Church, Rauchtown Sunday, SEPTEMBER 30 th at 2:30 p.m. You are invited to join members of West Branch Conference congregations and WELCA Units for a FALL CLUSTER GATHERING at St. James. The program is to learn how "The New LOVE CENTER & Food Pantry", established in Jersey Shore in 2015, help the area's homeless and hungry persons. The need is real! Food boxes are given to 450 families each month with the Food Pantry providing 197,000 meals during The New Love Center Café feeds 700 people each month (five days a week). Registration Fee for the Cluster Gathering is $3.00 and includes a soup-and-sandwich supper provided by the St. James Ladies Aid. A SIGN-UP SHEET along with directions to the church can be found on the bulletin board. WELCA NEEDS Messiah's Women of the ELCA need to have the names and addresses of all college students and family members in the military so cookie boxes (reminders of their relationship to Messiah) can be sent to them in November. Watch for announcements later requesting cookie donations.
