1 August 2014 Volume 51, Issue 1 President s Message As we look ahead to August, many of our St. Louis routines will begin again- kids are going back to school, traffic is increasing, the humidity has dropped to 90%, the Cardinals are sitting at or near the top of the NL Central standings, while the Cubs are at the bottom once again (only 35 games behind but building for the future). But along with all of those things, another exciting IIA chapter year is also beginning. My name is Steve Wang, and I ll be your President of the St. Louis chapter for the coming year. The theme for this year is Increasing Value Through Collaboration. Our job as internal auditors is to increase value within our spheres of influence- both within our companies and within the community around us. For us to do so effectively, we need to work with others- getting great minds to work together leads to great results. Our objective for the year would be to provide programs to you that are fun, that provide tools for your career growth, and that encourages collaboration between you and others within your organizations, between you and other internal auditors within your departments and between each of us within our local chapter. Our programs in the upcoming months feature many great speakers and a diversity of activities. In August, Jeff Kreafle, General Manager of Bellerive Country Club will be speaking on all the work put in to bring quality events (like the PGA Tour) to St. Louis to help further develop our community. This event will highlight successful internal auditor skills, such as leadership and project management. In September, our chapter will have a Mystery Fraud Event. If you ve ever attended a Mystery Murder dinner, the event will be similar - except that fraud is involved and no one dies. We will actually need some actors within our chapter for this event, so be on the lookout for additional details. Our October Director s Reception will feature Bob Hirth, Chairman of COSO, who will come in to speak on updates on the 2013 COSO Framework and how companies have been adapting to it this year. Our November events will include a new auditors roundtable and a one day seminar on presentation and writing skills facilitated by Graceworks (I can personally vouch for this riveting and entertaining presentation). What s Hot This Issue? Social Media Challenge August Kickoff Meeting Upcoming Events Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us at each of these wonderful events! I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. Steve Wang - St. Louis Chapter President 1

3 St. Louis Chapter of the IIA August Meeting Thursday, August 14, 2014 About the Meeting and Seminar How Did St. Louis Get the 2018 PGA? Everyone knows about the Cardinals, Rams and Blues. But did you know there is a significant effort in St. Louis to bring other sporting events to the area. These events create free publicity and tourism dollars and generally make St. Louis a better place to live. Jeffrey Kreafle is the General Manager of Bellerive Country Club. Jeffrey played a significant role in bringing the 2018 PGA Championship to St. Louis. Jeffrey and his team created a blue print for PGA signature events called PGA Reach that will be used for the next 100 years of golf. Don t miss this event! After the meeting, we will head directly over to Busch Stadium and watch the Cardinals play the San Diego Padres. The price of your ticket will include dinner and networking in Suite 205. This is usually the most fun meeting of the year so you should plan to attend!
