1 Focus St. Louis IIA Newsletter What s HOT Upcoming Events Notice of Election Sponsorship Opportunities March into March President s Message St. Louis IIA Members - As we march right into March, I googled the word March and found out that the month of March is the second of seven months to have 31 days and it is also Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig day on March 1st. I think it is so amazing how much information is maintained on the internet and how we can just Google to get the information we are looking for. Can you even purchase encyclopedias anymore? I should just Google to find out! That is how I feel about our organization, The Institute of Internal Auditors. There are many great resources right at the click of a button. We have various professional blogs, online magazine articles, topics and resources and we can even customize our memberships. Did you hear the latest news? We now have the opportunity to attend the 2019 GAM Conference virtually. If you don t have the time or extra funds for travel/lodging, you can attend the conference via Live Streaming. Click here for more details. After I Googled the word March and discovered many different links/information tied to the word, I thought of The IIA Performance Standard 2310 Identifying Information. Internal Auditors must identify sufficient, reliable, relevant, and useful information to achieve the engagement s objectives. See also The IIA s interpretation of this standard in more detail. For example, the word March, depending on your research, the fact that it is the second of seven months to have 31 days may be most relevant and useful to you. However, I don t want to leave out our guinea pig fans where the fact that we celebrate them being rescued could also be sufficient information to another. Did you have the opportunity to attend our Student Night event on February 22nd? It was a great event and I want to congratulate, Cassidy Stone from the University of Missouri Columbia on winning our $1,000 scholarship. Way to go Cassidy! Thank you to our Academic Relations Committee for all their hard work, time and effort it paid off. Also, when I think of March I think of our Multi-Track event that we co-sponsor with the St. Louis Chapter ACFE. This is such a great local event to help you succeed in your profession. We have two amazing key note speakers as well as an Audit, Fraud, and Soft Skill track for you to customize into your training plan for the day. It s still time to register for this great event. The presentation will focus on how disruptive change transforms business and must be assessed to properly identify and measure opportunities and risks. The presenter will also discuss how technology and data privacy issues impact organizations and stakeholders. The general session will be followed by breakout sessions covering fraud, audit, and soft skill topics. The closing general session key note speaker will be Marc Elliot. Marc is a motivational speaker, and will present on the topic, "Guilty Until Proven Innocent: Cultivating Kindness and Critical Thinking in a World That Promotes Bias, Prejudice, and Gossip." Marc will share his life story around embracing adversity and overcoming challenges in hopes to inspire conversations around the ability to work collaboratively to build better workplaces. GOLD Level 1,560 CAP points SILVER LEVEL 1,060 CAP POINTS BRONZE Level 685 CAP points Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) CAP is the acronym for Chapter Achievement Program. The program has been established on the premise that the basic mission of the chapter is to serve its members first and then the internal audit profession. The program, sponsored by the International IIA, encourages local chapters to be active both for the benefit of the chapter members and of the local community. Local chapters earn credits for the CAP through in the following categories: a) service to members; b) service to the profession, and c) chapter administration. The Chapter Achievement Program is made up of three performance levels: bronze (685 credits), silver (1,060 credits), and gold (1,560 credits). Thanks to your efforts, our chapter has attained gold status every year since After ten consecutive years of achieving gold, a chapter achieves Platinum level which this chapter has earned since So what can a member do to earn CAP points for the chapter? Examples, include: Attend the monthly chapter meetings; Attend chapter sponsored seminars; Utilize the chapter sponsored Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) review course; Earn an IIA certification; Develop questions for the CIA exam; Recruit new members; Present speeches or training sessions; Write internal audit-related articles for publication; Provide an internal audit internship at your company for a student; and Come up with an innovative way to promote the chapter So, it's easy to contribute and it doesn't take too much of an effort.
