2 What then is its relationship to the concept of holiness? Profane action or speech is unholy and sinful. 5. How did the teaching from these two chapters effect the religious leaders of Jesus day? They were meticulous about such things as washing of hands and other rituals. 6. Under what circumstances could a priest touch a dead body? Only a close relative. 7. What three things were priests not to do to indicate their state of mourning? Not shave a bald spot on head or trim the corners of the beard. No slash cuts on body.

3 What two restrictions are placed on the priest in the selection of a wife? Couldn t marry a former prostitute nor a divorced woman. 9. What important statement is made six times in these two chapters? I, the Lord who sanctifies you all, am holy. 10. Cite the references in which this statement is found. 4 What misapplication of this principle became the understanding of the religious leaders in later years? They thought keeping the minute details of the Law made them holy. 12. What effect did this misunderstanding have on the way the Scribes, Pharisees and Priests viewed Jesus? He touched lepers and other sick folks and ate with unwashed hands; therefore, he could not be righteous. 13. Who are God s priests today? Support your answer with scripture. We who have trusted and submitted to the finished work of Christ. 14. How are today s priests made holy? By the blood of Christ.

5 What reasons did God give for the high priest to be held to a higher standard of behavior? He has a higher position than his brothers. 16. What does the New Testament say about higher standards for certain people? James 3:1, Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, because you know that we will be judged more strictly. 17. What restrictions were placed on the high priest when there was a death in his immediate family? Could show no sign of mourning. Must not leave the Temple/Tabernacle area.

6 Why could he not leave the Tabernacle court? Because the dedication of the anointing of his God was upon him. 19. What were the restrictions for the high priest in choosing a wife? Must be a virgin from his own people. 20. Why could a Levite with a physical defect not serve as a priest? He was a prototype of Jesus, our perfect High Priest. 21. If a priest became ceremonially unclean by coming in contact with some unclean thing, what must he do before he could serve again? Bathe and wash his body.

7 Who could not eat the food that had been offered as a sacrifice? Anyone who had touched an unclean thing. 23. Why must an animal that is offered be without defect? These sacrifices were also pictures of the coming Messiah. 24. How old did a newborn animal have to be before it was acceptable as a sacrifice? From the 8th day onward. 25. What interesting lesson do we learn from Haggai 2:11-13 concerning holiness? Brushing up against the holy will not make you holy, but contact with the unholy will make you unholy.
