1 Sunday 27 May 2018 The Gospel Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Prayer Mt 28: Oh Most Holy Trinity Father, Son and Holy Spirit- I adore You profoundly. I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifferences whereby He is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners. O Mother of God, wellspring of life, Pray for us! Just as you were once disobedient to God but have now received mercy because of their disobedience, so they have now been disobedient in order that, by the mercy shown to you, they too may now receive mercy. For God has imprisoned all in disobedience so that he may be merciful to all. O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counsellor? Or who has given a gift to him, to receive a gift in return? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen. 2 Light from the Word To worship The Catechism Jesus commands attention. He draws us to him and we are transfixed. He gives us the Holy Spirit to transform us into disciples of Christ. In Matthew s Gospel account he commences the life of Jesus with people worshipping him. In 2:11 the wise men who saw the infant Jesus, knelt down and paid him homage. At the end of Matthew s Gospel, we read at the final appearance of the Resurrected Jesus that of the eleven disciples, When they saw him, they worshipped him in Mt 28:17. However, it also adds, but some doubted. Jesus throughout his life was a contentious figure. There were believers and there were non-believers. People came from far and wide, like the wise men at the birth, and were able to recognise Jesus for who he was. Yet people closest to Jesus, including disciples, had their doubts. Today we have ardent believers, fickle believers, and those who downright refuse to believe in Jesus. Yet in today s Gospel the final commission to the disciples is clear, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations (v18). Faith in Jesus is not a private matter only. Yes, it is a personal choice, but it propels one to spread the Good News, to want and to so desire the person of Jesus to be known, loved and worshipped by all. We can t let the memory of Jesus die because of indifference. Jesus is life changing. So we pray for an awakening, for eyes to see and ears to hear and for hearts of flesh, so that Jesus can be universally known and embraced. Amen Sr Margaret Ghosn MSHF The Profession of Faith - The Holy Trinity We do not confess three Gods, but one God in three persons, the "consubstantial Trinity". The divine persons do not share the one divinity among themselves but each of them is God whole and entire. He is not the Father who is the Son, nor is the Son he who is the Father, nor is the Holy Spirit he who is the Father or the Son. It is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds. The divine Unity is Triune. The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is therefore the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the most fundamental and essential teaching in the "hierarchy of the truths of faith". The whole history of salvation is identical with the history of the way and the means by which the one true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, reveals himself to men "and reconciles and unites with himself those who turn away from sin". The Servant s Word A Reason to Rejoice This Sunday in our Maronite Liturgy, we celebrate Trinity Sunday. A week after Pentecost, this Sunday celebrates the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, fully revealed. This is not to say that the Trinity was not fully revealed in previous times, but at the Feast of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit is given to us. It is through the Spirit that we can now call God Abba and it is through the Spirit that we become brothers and sisters of Christ. On Friday 25th May we held our annual Gala Fundraiser Night in celebration of the great milestone of the 40th Anniversary of the Consecration and Opening of Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Harris Park. The foundation stone for the parish was actually laid in 1970, almost 50 years ago, but the building structure itself was officially opened and blessed by Archbishop Abdo Khalife on Sunday 6th August 1978 and this year of 2018 marks its 40th anniversary. With over 30,000 parishioners, Our Lady of Lebanon Parish has grown into the largest Maronite Parish in Australia, and we continue striving to be a sanctuary for thirsty souls from the beginning to the end of our earthly journey. Centred on the Eucharist and our Blessed Mother, the Divine Liturgy provides us with spiritual nourishment necessary to endure, empowering us with the Sacraments as we persevere in Faith, Hope and Love. Wherever we go, our Maronite spirit flows from our veins and embraces the world around us whether we are here for 40 years or 400 years, our presence makes its mark. The significance of celebrating this 40th Anniversary can be related to the many biblical events that we are most familiar with. The number 40 is mentioned 146 times in the Bible and is symbolic of a period of trials, struggles, and testing of faith. And so, today, united as one Parish family, we celebrate our own struggles and achievements over the past 40 years of continuous construction, in the physical and temporal sense. 40 years of building up our Church is monumental and should be celebrated with gratitude, glorifying Almighty God for His goodness to us. None of our past and ongoing projects would have been made possible without the support and tireless generosity of our all our sponsors, parishioners, countless volunteers and of course the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother and Patroness of our Maronite Church. On Saturday 26th May, our Parish held a celebratory Mass in honour of His Excellency Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay and his 25th Anniversary to the Priesthood. We pray through the intercession of Our Lady and St Charbel, for strength and perseverance for His Excellency as he leads the flock of Christ towards Heaven. Father Tony Sarkis

3 Article of the Week Disciples For All Nations Most vividly, I remember my deepest yearning and passion throughout my senior high school and early tertiary years I wanted to change the world and to make a difference. Admittedly, it was a great expectation on my part and idealistic to say the least. But with that in mind, who could ever have imagined the networking impact made throughout history by a dozen fishermen 2000 years ago, preaching a risen Messiah? How was that even possible, let alone conceivable, and did these simple men even know that they would change the world and make such a difference when all they had was a small fishing boat and their feet? Empowered by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, they believed that nothing was impossible with God, and so they ventured out with courage and their sword of fire the Holy Spirit. My own hope is renewed each day when I receive Jesus in the Eucharist, knowing that if God wants me to do it, He will see me through it. Simplistic? Maybe so.and perhaps that is why God chooses the simple to fulfil His mandate to go out and preach the Gospel to all nations, baptising them in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. By my simple obedience to God s Will in my life, surrendering all to Him, I am a disciple for all nations, by praying unceasingly and offering unconditionally with love, for the salvation of ALL souls throughout the world, especially the most forgotten. Receiving the Sacraments regularly and living a life of grace, we take Christ with us everywhere we go, and sometimes that is all we need to ignite a desire for Jesus in someone s heart. This process is repeated by each soul that is touched by our witnessing to the Truth. You don t have to be a celebrity appearing on TV and social media to evangelise and you don t have to travel the world to be a disciple for all nations pray for those who don t know how to pray, offer reparation for those who offend God, seeking mercy on their behalf. By adopting all humanity as our own family, caring for the homeless and destitute, showing compassion to the lonely and forgotten, loving the unlovable and forgiving the unforgivable these are ways in which we are called to be disciples, changing the world, one soul at a time, empowered by the Blessed Trinity in imitation of Christ. Salwa Elias Teens Corner Youths Corner We thank all our mothers who joined us for our touching Mother s Day lesson two weeks ago. It was such a special lesson where our teens truly showed their mothers their gratitude and love for them. After our mothers and teens were given separate talks, they gathered together for an incredibly entertaining game of Guess the Teen. To our teens surprise and slight embarrassment, we had asked the mothers for a baby photo of their teen during the week. As we flicked through these baby photos, we all laughed together as we guessed which teen had grown from these adorable shots. It was now the teens turn to surprise their mothers with something we had asked them to do throughout the week. They were asked to write a letter to their mothers, explaining how much they truly meant to them and give them the ultimate gift for Mother s day. As our mothers walked into the room, where their teens were waiting for them with a rose in their hands, it is fair to say there weren t many dry eyes seen. The statue of Our Lady at the front, the soft music in the background, the dim lights, and the teens handing the rose to their mothers and reading their letters, created such a special, touching experience for both our teens, mothers and leaders included. Our mothers are so special to us, and are a perfect reminder of Our Lady s love towards us, and our teens truly showed them this. Clair & Nicole Daher Mary Mother of Mercy: Our Example and Our Guide This was the topic for this month s Faith on Fire session. Coming towards the end of May, we reflect on how Mary is the perfect example for us, our example and our guide. She embodies the corporal works of Mercy, which we imitate, essentially leading us to heaven. Mary is our closest link to Christ. However, how often have we thought about why we call upon our Blessed Mother s intercession? When we invoke on her intercession we are essentially asking her to help us conquer our daily struggles. Jesus came through Mary to get to us, it is only rational that we ask Mary to intercede for us to get to Jesus. During the Wedding of Cana, Jesus did not plan on starting his ministry, it was through Mary s intercession Jesus performed his first miracle, effectively starting his ministry. Mary had the influence and Christ loved his Mother so much that he not only accelerated his ministry, but also his DEATH, PASSION and RESURRECTION. Pray the Rosary, call upon the intercession of Our Blessed Mother and she will lead you to our Saviour. Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. 6 كلمة الرحمة لماذا تكتئبين يا نفسي الناس في عالمنا مصابة باالكتئاب! نرى الكآبة في كل مكان حتى بين الملتزمين بالكنيسة. يشاركون في القداس وبعضهم بشكل يومي مع ذلك هم مكتئبون! األسباب كثيرة بعضها عائلي وآخر اقتصادي أو يتعلق بالعمل. لكن أحدا ال يقول إنه كئيب ألنه بعيد عن الرب! بعكس كاتب المزمور ٢٤ وهو داود على األرجح. عائلة الكلمة اإللهية في رعية سيدة لبنان تأملت مساء الثالثاء الماضي بهذا المزمور مع مساعد مرشدها الروحي الشدياق روبير البايع. "كما يشتاق األي ل إلى مجاري المياه كذلك تشتىاق نفسي إليك يا اهلل". هكذا يبدأ المزمور الذي يحمل كل مشاعر اإليمان والرجاء والشوق للرب ممزوجة بمشاعر اإلنسانية المتألمة بسبب الخطيئة. األي ل هو الغ ازل الذي ال يرتوي إال إذا دخل إلى وسط المياه وأنزل جسمه فيها ليشرب. ينظف جسده من الخارج ويروي روحه من الداخل. و"نفسي" هي التي تشتاق وال يروي ظمأها سوى كلمة الرب. لكن هل ندري أن عطش اهلل لنا أكبر بكثير من عطشنا له لنتذكر مثل االبن الضال كيف أتى تائبا وأ ارد أن يكون عبدا في بيت أبيه فيما رد له أبوه الملك فو ار. هكذا شوق الرب لك! مهما كانت خطيئتك كرسي االعت ارف بانتظارك. ما عليك سوى دخولها بقلب تائب. إلهك ال يحبك فحسب بل هو مغرم بك! 7 تأم ل في اإلنجيل نتأم ل في أحد الثالوث األقدس في هذا النص ال ذي يختم به مت ى الر سول إنجيله. نجد في هذا النص خمسة عناصر أساسي ة: التأكيد على هوي ة اإلبن السماوي وسلطته المطلقة في الس ماء واألرض في عصر يشك فيه الكثيرون بدور اهلل في هذه الدنيا ويت كلون على أمور أخرى وال سي ما المادي ات. تكليف الر سل بالبشارة الالمحدودة بزمان أو بمكان ألن ها تتوج ه إلى كل األمم وفي ذلك توسيع آلفاق الر سل ال ذين إعتادوا العيش في مجتمع مغلق. تحديد اإلطار الالهوتي والعملي لهذه البشارة فهي تستند إلى اإليمان بسر الثالوث األقدس أي باهلل كآب وابن وروح قدس وهذا اإليمان يؤد ي إلى المعمودي ة أي إلى اإلنتماء إلى إبنة اآلب وعروس اإلبن وهيكل الر وح القدس أي الكنيسة! البشارة فالمعمودي ة ترس خ بالتعليم المستمر داخل الجماعة وجوهره ما عل مه الرب يسوع وأوصى رسله بأن يحفظوه ويعل موه أي بأن يعيشوه ويتوارثوه من جيل إلى جيل. كل هذا يكفله وعد الرب بالبقاء داخل الكنيسة ومعها "ك ل األ ي ام إ لى ن ه اي ة الع ال م. كلمة الخادم الحقيقة المحر رة والجامعة - الوحي اإللهي الوحي االلهي هو كشف اهلل لإلنسان عن ذاته وعن إ اردته الخالصي ة في التاريخ بأعمال وأقوال مرتبطة ارتباط ا وثيق ا فيما بينها وموض حة بعضها البعض. حق ق اهلل الوحي الفائق الطبيعة تدريجي ا معتمد ا نظام ا تربوي ا إلهي ا يعد فيه اإلنسان لتقب له على م ارحل عبر أحداث العهد القديم وتعاليمه والسي ما عبر األنبياء الذين أعلنوا أن اهلل ينق ي من التجاو ازت ويعطي الخالص لكل األمم. بلغ هذا الوحي ملئه وكماله في شخص الكلمة المتجس د يسوع المسيح. فيسوع هو كلمة اهلل الكاملة والنهائي ة فيه قال لنا اهلل كل شيء ولم يعد هناك أي كلمة أخرى ننتظرها تزيد شيئ ا على الوحي الذي تم به. والكنيسة تتقد م وتنمو في معرفة هذا الوحي عبر العصور. واهلل أوحى ذاته في قلب تدبيره الخالصي فال نستطيع أن نفصل بين الوحي والخالص الل ذين غايتهما واحدة وهي اش ارك االنسان في الحياة االلهي ة المجيدة. ي نقل الوحي عبر التقليد الرسولي القائم على الرسل ال ذين أوصاهم يسوع أن ينقلوا الى كل البشر بشرى االنجيل الحامل الوحي االلهي. هذا التقليد تسل مته الكنيسة من الرسل مع الكتاب المقد س الذي هو كلمة اهلل المدو نة كتابة بإلهام من الروح القدس وتنقله عبر التعليم والليتورجي ا والم ث ل. وال بد أن الت قليد المقد س والكتاب المقد س يرتبطان ويت صالن فيما بينهما بشكل وثيق. فكالهما ينبعان من مصدر إلهي واحد ويؤل فان بطريقة ما وحدة ال تتجز أ ويهدفان إلى غاية واحدة. فالكتاب المقد س هو حق ا كلمة اهلل من حيث أن ه مكتوب بوحي من الر وح القدس. أم ا الت قليد المقد س فينقل كلمة اهلل ال تي عهد بها الس يد المسيح والر وح القدس إلى الر سل وهو يبل غها كاملة إلى خلفائهم لكي يحفظوها ويعل موا بها وينشروها بكل أمانة بواسطة تبشيرهم وقد أنارهم روح الحق. من الرسالة العامة السابعة للبطريرك الماروني بشارة الراعي لهذا نبتهج نحتفل هذا األحد في ليتورجيتنا المارونية بأحد الثالوث. بعد أسبوع من العنصرة نحتفل هذا األحد باآلب واالبن والروح القدس الثالوث المتجلي بالكامل. هذا ال يعني أن الثالوث لم يتجل بالكامل في األزمنة السابقة لكن في عيد العنصرة ي عطى الروح القدس لنا. من خالل الروح نستطيع اآلن أن ندعو اهلل "أب ا" ومن خالل الروح نصبح إخوة وأخوات للمسيح. يوم الجمعة في ٤٢ أيار أقمنا حفل عشائنا السنوي واحتفلنا بحدث هام وهو الذكرى األربعين لتكريس كنيسة سيدة لبنان في هاريس بارك وافتتاحها. في الواقع تم وضع الحجر األساس للرعية في العام ٠٧٩١ أي قبل ٢١ عاما تقريبا لكن المبنى نفسه افت تح رسميا وتم تكريسه من قبل المط ارن عبدو خليفة يوم األحد في ٦ آب ٠٧٩١. هكذا تحل في السنة ٤١٠١ الذكرى األربعون لهذا الحدث. وقد نمت الرعية التي تضم أكثر من ٠١ ألف شخص لتصبح أكبر رعية مارونية في أست ارليا فيما نواصل السعي لنكون مالذا لألنفس العطشى من بداية مسيرتنا األرضية حتى نهايتها. يوفر لنا القداس اإللهي المستند إلى اإلفخارستيا وأمنا العذ ارء مريم الغذاء الروحي الضروري للصمود ويعطينا القوة من خالل األس ارر فيما نثابر في اإليمان والرجاء والحب. أينما ذهبنا تجري روحنا المارونية في عروقنا وتغمر العالم من حولنا... سواء كنا هنا منذ ٢١ سنة أو ٢١١ عام لحضورنا بصماته. تكمن أهمية إحياء هذه الذكرى ال ٢١ في إمكانية ربطها بالكثير من األحداث البيبلية المألوفة لدينا أكثر من سواها. الرقم ٢١ مذكور ٠٢٦ مرة في اإلنجيل وهو يرمز إلى فترة المحن والجهاد وامتحان اإليمان. لذا اليوم ونحن متحدون كعائلة واحدة في الرعية نحيي جهادنا وانجا ازتنا على مدى السنوات ال ٢١ الماضية من البناء المستمر بالمعنى المادي والزمني. ٢١ سنة من بناء كنيستنا تشكل مناسبة في غاية األهمية يجب إحياؤها بامتنان مسبحين اهلل العلي لجوده علينا. لم يكن بالمستطاع إنجاز أي من مشاريعنا الماضية والمستمرة لوال دعم وسخاء جميع كفالئنا وأف ارد رعيتنا والمتطوعين الذين ال يحصو ن وبالطبع لوال شفاعة العذ ارء مريم أمنا وشفيعة كنيستنا المارونية. السبت في ٤٦ أيار أقامت رعيتنا قداسا احتفاليا تكريما لسيادة المط ارن أنطوان شربل طربيه في الذكرى ال ٢ ألسقفيته على أست ارليا والذكرى ال ٤٢ لسيامته كاهنا. نصلي لكي يمنحه الرب بشفاعة سيدتنا مريم العذ ارء والقديس شربل القوة والثبات وهو يقود قطيع المسيح نحو السماء. الخوري طوني سركيس
