1 Qulooboel Moe mieneen Masjied (QMM), Goodwood Imaam s Report - Annual General meeting (AGM) Sunday 21 st June 2015 Executive Committee and members of the congregation of QMM, Assalamu alaikum waraghmatullahi wabaraka tuhu All praises are due to Allah, The Cherisher and Sustainer of the Universe. Peace and salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions and all those who follow him. Subhanallah another year has passed, bringing us closer to meeting our Creator to whom we will have to give a full account of our deeds of this life. It is important to take one s soul to account and treat one s deficiencies. Sayidina Umar (RA) said: Take account of yourselves before you are taken to account, weigh your deeds before they are weighed. So today we reflect back and take account of ourselves asking ourselves: Have we fulfilled the amaanat that we have been entrusted with, what are the deficiencies & and how can we improve? As human beings we will always have deficiencies and need to learn to acknowledge and treat them. We should not allow anything to side track us from working for Jannah. It is not an easy road. In the words of the Prophet [pbuh]: Jannah is veiled with difficulties. These difficulties include the insults, accusations, backbiting and slandering which one has to endure almost on a daily basis. By not responding to each of them we unveil and make our path easy to Jannah. May Allah protect us from harming the honor of any human being by insulting, accusing, backbiting, slandering or publicizing their shortcomings. May Allah forgive our shortcomings, protect us from Jahannam and grant us Jannatul Firdous, Ameen. At our 10th Muharram programme we decided to dedicate this year (1436) as The year of Unity. To cement this we invited the Imaam of the Anderson Street Masjied, Ml. D Baba to be the guest speaker at the programme. In addition we arranged that as Imaams we would rotate the Jumuah. On the 17th April 2015 Ml. D. Baba delivered the jumuah at our Masjied, Sh. D. Ibrahim at the Hugo Street Masjied and myself at the Anderson Street Masjied. The 5 minute talk on Tuesdays after Maghrib promoted unity within the family and community. May Allah Almighty keeep us all united and protect us from being disunited. It is with the Grace of Allah Almighty that this close knit community has accomplished great achievements, Alhamdulillah. With achievements we also face challenges. The Imaamat together with the community needs to continue to strive for unity within this community. The Masjied is indeed the focal point of every Muslim. We witness this on a daily basis as the Masjied is frequented for salah times but there are also many other reasons others come. One of such categories, are those who have no one to turn to during difficult times. [It is the very Masjied that Allah sends a different category of persons, to spend out of that which Allah had granted them.] May Allah grant us to be of those who spend in His cause and reward those who without fail contribute monthly in providing the less fortunate with a meal every day. May Allah protect us that we must never be in a difficult situation where we have to beg or have no food in our homes, Ameen. Page 1

2 Alhamdulillah, how beautiful it is when some of our youth are able to serve the community and other underprivileged areas and some even inspire others to embrace Islam. May Allah continue to utilize them and inspire others to follow their example. This year 22 of our youth joined a group of other youth from within the Northen Suburbs on a blanket distribution under the banner of the UNS. All Masaajied appealed for blankets which was pooled together for redistribution throughout the Northern Suburbs. Once again, with the help of Allah and our community, we managed to contribute R and 136 blankets towards this initiative. Youth were selected together with their respective Imaams from the various Northern Suburbs Masaajied and visited the Boneheuwel (Gaza strip) and the Netreg (Golden gate) areas. It is my firm belief that no matter what our challenges are, they can be overcome with the help of Allah. However, there has to be a commitment to educate and spiritually uplift ourselves. The Masjied, with the Grace of Almighty Allah, has been providing that platform. It provides a broad spectrum of classes, thikr gatherings and khatams for both males and females. There has been a slight increase in the attendance of classes, thikr gatherings and khatams however I feel there is room for much improvement in this regard. Social media has developed a niche for an increase in and telephonic enquiries. This in turn, results in more time spent in dealing with these issues. It is my opinion, as Imaam of the Masjied, that despite the challenges we were faced with this past year, the community is progressing on most levels, but there is always room for improvement, especially on a spiritual level. The following are some of the activities & events during the course of the year: Monthly Ghatamal Quran on the last Sunday of the Islamic month Greeting of hujaaj (prior to leaving) Inspirational talk by hujaaj upon their return Satellite dish transmitting Peace TV (Dawah channel) Among other documentation we designed documents to complete for marriage, tasmiyah & reverts (for record purposes) 5 minute Inspirational talk Tuesday evening after Magrib salaah Food Parcel preparation and distribution by youth (W. Gamieldien, M. Bassadien, Y. Panday, U. Manuel, R. Brink, I. Tofa & W. Moosa) which was initiated on Thurs. 17th June 2010 and continues to date (see detailed report) Soup & food preparation by ladies and distribution by ladies & youth which was initiated on Thurs. 19th May 2011 and continues weekly to date (see detailed report) Regular Thikr on Thursday nights at Masjied & homes lead by H. 7 In conclusion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my fellow Imaam, Sheikh D. Ebrahim, Khatieps, Bilals, Tuan & Toekamandies, Caretaker, Administrators, Executive Committee, Trustees and all the members of QMM for their good co-operation and respect they show me. A special word of thanks to all those who without fail provide us with food, boeber, vermicelli and niceties every Thursday after thikr & at our monthly khatams and all those who continuously assist not wanting any recognition for their support they show me. May Allah grant our health so we can continue to serve His Cause. We also keep in our duas for health those who are ill and served this community like Hadjie Amien Bassadien and those who are no longer with us and served this community like the late Imam Omar Abdullah, Imam Abdul Qadir Fakie, Imam Abdul Qadir Mukaddam, Imam Ismail Isaacs, Hadjie Fuad Essack and all Muslims. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdous. We are always trying to the best of our ability to serve the community. We ask Allah to forgive our shortcomings, give us the strength to carry on and improve on those areas needed.
