2 HAJJ 2018 ولله على الناس حج البيت من استطاع إليه سبيال Pilgrimage to the House (of Allah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah for those who can afford the journey
3 Hajj is a Pillar of Islam Pillars of Hajj Ihram Waqoof-e-Arafah S ai Tawaf Alziyarah Mawaqeet (Places where Haji intends for Ihram) Dhul Al- Halifah Or Abar-Ali Yalamla m Al-Juhfah Qarn Al- Manazil Dhatu-irq Makkah People of Madinah AMERICAN People of Yemen People of Egypt, Morocco, and Syria People of Najd AMERICAN People of the East People of Makkah AMERICAN
4 Obligations of Hajj Ihram from the prescribe d Miqat Wuqoofe-Arafah until Sunset Spending the night of the 9th Dhul Hijjah at Muzadalifa h Spending Two Night of Tashreeq days at Mina Rami- Jamar i.e. Throwing pebbles at the three Jamrahs Shaving or Shortenin g the hair of the head Tawaf-e- Wida Menstrutin g and post natal period women are exempted Remarks One who misses a Sunnah of Hajj, there is no sin for him One who misses and obligation of Hajj, should slaughter a sheep as a Fidya One who misses a pillar of Hajj, his Hajj is nullified unless he performs it again.
5 There are Three ways to Perform Hajj QIRAN (Combined) Hajj & Umrah is combined in such a way that Ihram is not removed after Umrah but it is removed after performing Hajj also. The Messenger of Allah (swt) performed Hajj Qiran becuase he brought Hadiya with him. TAMATTU (Un-Combined) Entering the Ihram for Umrah during the months of Hajj (Shawwal, Dhul- Qa dah and first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah) then removing Ihram again for Hajj in the same year. The Messenger of Allah (swt) recommended Hajj Tamatt u. Especially for those who did not bring Hadiye with them IFRAD (Single) Entering into Ihram for Hajj only.
6 QIRAN Hadiye is required Hadiye must be brought Miqat Talbyah - Entering into the state of Ihram by uttering: لبيك اللهم لبيك Only One Sa i is required TAMATTU Hadiye is required If Hadiye is not brought from Miqat then Tamatt u should be performed. Talbyah - Entering into the state of Ihram by uttering: لبيك اللهم لبيك Two Sa is are required, one for Umrah and another for Hajj. IFRAD Hadiye (Sacrificial Animal) is not required. Talbyah - Entering into the state of Ihram by uttering: لبيك اللهم لبيك Only one Sa i is required which is with Tawaf-e-
7 Preparation for Hajj Purify your faith from Shirk and Bid ah لئن أشركت ليحبطن عملك ولتكونن من الخسرين [الغافر 65 ] Purify your actions Purify your earnings only pure and lawful money should be used for Hajj & Umrah The messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: «إن الله طيب اليقبل إالطيبا» Fulfill all obligations you owe others. Set aright any oppression or wrongdoing you did in the past Study the rites of Hajj & Umrah because knowledge is light Choose good companions before and after your journey for Hajj & Umrah Exercise self control (anger management). Allah said: فالرفث والفسوق والجدال في الحج [البقرة 197] Take provisions with you (piety/patience) Take some common medications with you
8 Conditions of Hajj & Umrah Islam Puberty Soundness of mind Capability (health/cost of journey)
9 Rulings on Hajj & Umrah The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: «الحج مرة فمن زاد فهوتطوع» Hajj is to be performed once in a lifetime, and to perform it more than once is a superogatory act. Umrah is an obligatory Sunnah. Allah said: «وأتموا الحج والعمرة لله» And complete the Hajj and the Umrah for Allah (2:196) Hajj can be performed on behalf of one s elderly parent. The Messenger of Allah said someone who told him that his father was too old to perform Hajj or Umrah: «حج عن أبيك واعتمر» Perform Hajj & Umrah on behalf of your father.
10 Virtues of Hajj & Umrah Hajj & Umrah are among the most virtuous deeds. The Messenger of Allah said: «أفضل األعمال:إيمان بالله وحده ثم الجهاد ثم الحج المبرور» The best of deeds are: to believe in Allah alone, to strive in the cause of Allah, and an accepted Hajj. The reward for Hajj is Jannah. The Messenger of Allah said: «العمرة إلى العمرة كفارة لما بينهما والحج المبرور ليس له جزآء إال الجنة» The time between one Umrah and the other is expiated and the reward of an accepted Hajj is no less than Jannah (Paradise)
11 There are four pillars of Hajj 1. Ihram state of sactity 2. Tawaf circumambulation around Ka abah 3. Sa I walking/running between Safa & Marwah 4. Wuqoof (standing) in Arafah There are three pillars of Umrah 1. Ihram state of sactity 2. Tawaf circumambulation around Ka abah 3. Sa I walking/running between Safa & Marwah
12 Duties/Conditions of Ihram (failure to observe anyone of them necessitates animal sacrifice or fasting) Making intention of Ihram from the Miqat (prescribed place from where Ihram started) Dul-Hulaifah (for people of Madinah) Al-Juhfah (for the people of Syria) Qarn Al-Manzil (for people of Najd) Yalamlam (for the people of Yemen) Abstaining from wearing sewn clothes, covering the head, and wearing shoes Repeating the Talbiyyah: لبيك اللهم لبيك لبيك الشريك لك لبيك إن الحمد والنعمة لك والملك الشريك لك Here I am O my Lord here I am. Here I am, you have nopartner, here I am. Verily all praise, bounty and Dominion belong to you, you have no partner.
13 Sunnah of Ihram (failure to observe them causes one to miss great rewards, but does not necessitate Fidyah (ransom/expiation) Bathing (even for menstruating women and those in post delivery state) Clipping nails, trimming the mustache, plucking the armpit hair and shaving pubic hair. To wear white RIDA and IZAR Praying before starting IHRAM Repeating the TALBIYYAH at time of embarking, disembarking, or SALAH Suplicationg for the Prophet (peace be upon him)
14 Prohibitions of Ihram (if one commits any of them, one must offer Fidyah) Covering the head (this prohibition is for men only) Saving or shortening any body hair Clipping nails Using perfume Wearing sewn clothes (this prohibition is for men only) 5:95 «ياأيهاالذين ءآمنواالتقتلوا الصيد وأنتم حرم» animals) Killing game (land «فالرفث والفسوق والجدال في الحج» desire: 2:197 Kissing/touching with sexual Marrying or proposing marriage Engaging in Sexual intercourse
15 Tawaf (walking around the Ka bah seven times)
16 Conditions of Twaf Intention at commencement Purification as is done for Prayer (Salah) Clipping nails, trimming Mustache, plucking armpit hair, shaving pubic hair Covering all shameful parts. The Messenger of Allah said: الطواف حول البيت مثل الصالة إالأنكم تتكلمون فيه فمن تكلم فيه فاليتكلم إالبخير Tawaf around the House is like Salah, except that you may talk in it, and one who talks shall talk only of good things Tawaf must be done within the boundaries of the Masjid Al-Haraam
17 Conditions of Twaf contd. The Ka bah must be kept on the left side while performing Tawaf Tawaf must start and end at Hajar al Aswad and must be seven times Tawaf must be uninterrupted unless necessary
18 Sunnah of Tawaf Men are to walk swiftly with short steps in the first three rounds of Tawaf al-qudoom (arrival Tawaf) Men are place the Ihram garb under their right arm in Tawaf al- Qudoom (arrival Tawaf) If possible Hajar al-aswad is to be kissed. It is sufficient to point to it One must say at the beginning of the round: بسم الله الله أكبر In the name of Allah, Allah is the greatest One is to supplicate during Tawaf
19 Sunnah of Tawaf contd. Touching the Ruknul Yamani (Yamani Corner) and kissing the black stone in every round of the Tawaf To supplicate at the Al-Multazam (between Ka bah entrance & Black stone at end of Tawaf To offer two Rak ah behind Maqam Ibrahim after Tawaf. Allah said: واتخذوا من مقام إبراهيم مصلى To drink and pour Zam-Zam water on the head after Tawaf To return to the Black Stone to touch it before proceeding to Sa i
20 Etiquette of Tawaf Tawaf should be performed in humility and reverence of Allah One should refrain from talking while performing Tawaf One should not harm others by speech or deeds One should remember Allah, supplicate, and pray for the Prophet (peace be upon him) frequently
21 Allah the Exalted says: Sa i (walking between Safa & Marwah) إن الصفا والمروة من شعائر الله فمن حج البيت أواعتمر فالجناح عليه أن يطوف بهما... Behold, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols/reminders of Allah. It is no sin for the one who visits the House of Allah or performs Umrah to walk between them
22 Conditions of Sa i To make Intention in compliance with Allah s order To be performed after Tawaf Not to interrupt the rounds of Sa I To complete all seven rounds To be completed after Tawaf ul Qudoom (arrival)
23 Sunnah of Sa i To be completed immediately after Tawaf To run between the two green parallel lines on the edge of the valley (women, old, & sick are exempted) To stand on both mountains for supplication on each round To say the following three times while ascending Safa or Marwah: الله أكبر الإله إال الله وحده الشريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شr قدير Allah is Greatest. There is no god but Allah; He has no partner. To Him belongs all praise, bounty and dominion, and He is Omnipotent.
24 Etiquette of Sa i To go to Safa through the entrance of Safa reciting the following: إن الصفا والمروة من شعائر الله فمن حج البيت أواعتمر فالجناح عليه أن يطوف بهما ومن تطوع خيرافإن الله شاكرعليم Behold, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols/reminders of Allah. It is no sin for the one who visits the House of Allah or performs Umrah to walk between them. And whoever does good voluntarily, be sure that Allah is Most Grateful, All Knower. To be in a state of purity To walk on foot To remember Allah and supplicate frequently To lower one s gaze at women and to desist from committing sin by tongue To show humility before Allah
25 Standing at Arafah (this is the fourth and most important pillar of Hajj) The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: «الحج عرفة» It means to be present at Arafah from noon of the 9 th Dhul Hijjah until sunset, is the actual Hajj.
26 Conditions of Standing at Arafah To be present at Arafah on 9 th Dhul Hijjah from noon to sunset To spend the night of 10 th Dhul Hijjah at Muzdalifah To stone the Jamarat ul-aqabah on the day of sacrifice To shave or shorten the hair after stoning on the day of sacrifice To stay at Mina the nights of 11, 12, 13 of Dhul Hijjah To stone all three Jamarats after noon of all three days
27 Sunnah of Standing at Arafah To set out for Mina on 8 th of Dhul Hijjah and stay till sunrise of 9 th To delay Maghrib and combine with Isha at Muzdalifah To remember Allah and supplicate regularly To face the Qiblah when remembering Allah and supplicating
28 Etiquette of Standing at Arafah To bathe before going to Arafah (women who are in post delivery state or in menses may stand at Arafah) To stand at the great rock at the hill of Jabal Ar-Rahmah To remember Allah and supplicate frequently To return from Arafah by different road To return quietly To repeat the Talbiyyah to and from Arafah Pick up pebbles at Muzdalifah at dawn of 10 th Dhul Hijjah for stoning To slaughter or witness the slaughtering of the sacrificial animal and to eat from it
29 Tawaf al-wida This is a necessary Sunnah. Whoever omits it w/o valid excuse must slaughter an animal This final Tawaf is to be done when one is ready to leave Makkah (after completion of Hajj & Umrah) Anyone staying to buy or sell after this final Tawaf must repeat the Tawaf. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: «الينفرن أحد حتى يكون آخرعهده الطواف بالبيت» No one should leave Makkah unless the last thing s/he has done is Tawaf of the House.
