Cardinal Newman PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. - Matthew 28:19-20 PARISH VISION STATEMENT They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles:they ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. - Acts 2:42 AS A PARISH, WE WILL FULFILL THE MISSION AND LIVE THE VISION BY... Becoming a worshiping people who give praise and glory to God by keeping the Lord s day Holy, by celebrating Holy Mass on Sunday, and by encountering the Lord Jesus in the sacramental life and daily prayer. Becoming a missionary people who live our Catholic faith on a daily basis in witness of the Lord Jesus to the world; to our family, our neighbors, our friends, and our co-workers. In this way Jesus is known by the fruit of our lives and in our love for others; this is at the heart of evangelization and catechesis. Becoming a merciful people who put our faith into action by practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy: The Spiritual Works of Mercy: instructing, advising, consoling, and comforting The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead

4 PASTOR LETTER: Called to Serve as Christ Dear Saint Mark Parishioners; By now, most of you have heard about the Called to Serve as Christ Campaign. This is a landmark effort for our Archdiocese. Together as the Saint Mark faith community, we have the opportunity to renew our commitment to care for our senior priests by funding the priest medical pension and medical plans for generations to come, and to help strengthen the retirement plans of women religious as a sign of our gratitude for their selfless ministry in the Church. Additionally, at least 15 percent of the funds will be returned to Saint Mark to complete our own projects here. Taking the time out of your busy day to learn more about this important Diocesan-wide effort is very much appreciated. I, along with my brother Priests, have already made our own commitments to the campaign. Clergy have contributed the first $1 million to the campaign, with an average pledge of more than $10,000. Shortly, you will be receiving in the mail a letter from Archbishop Sartain offering you the chance to support this important campaign. The letter will provide more details about the campaign, as well as a suggested pledge amount. I would ask you carefully and prayerfully consider this request. As you have probably heard already, these pledges can be paid over one or more years, whichever is best for you and your family. I would also ask that you take the time to talk to your fellow parishioners about the campaign and share your enthusiasm with them. Our parish goal of $1,005,210 can only be met by the parish as a whole. Helping all of our Parishioners understand the importance of the campaign in providing for the long-term care of our Diocesan priests and women religious serving throughout the archdiocese is an important step in helping fellow parishioners to discern the best way for them to support the goals of the campaign. I would also like to invite you to our own Saint Mark celebration of the Called to Serve as Christ Campaign. It is a free dinner that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 6:00 pm, immediately following the 5:00 Mass. You will be able to learn more about the campaign, ask questions and to make your pledge as well. Again, I want to thank you for all the support you have shown Saint Mark over the years. I am more than appreciative of your faithful participation in our parish community! Father Mitchell
