1 Trinity Lutheran Church 424 E. Gilman St. New York Mills, MN Pastor Kirk Douglas Trinity Lutheran Church strives to connect people to Jesus by demonstrating God s unconditional love. Love God boldly, Grow in faith continually, Serve others joyfully. TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST October 14, 2018 IN OUR PRAYERS: God invites us to cast all our cares and worries upon Him because He cares for us. Today we cast upon God those who are sick, awaiting surgery or recovering, especially Duane Castle, Gunard Heikkila, Lillian Wallgren, Yvonne Huttunen, Connie Wallgren, Ralph Schwartz, Dan Cresswell, Paul Ebnet, Ron Ruther, Greg Mickelson, Jann Lee, Jim Wallgren, Susan Hintzman, Clarence Siebels, Duane Matz, Doug Nyhus, Charlene Nyhus, Kevin Wiirre, Hailiee Jenkins, Wade Salo, Lois Sailer, Mike Parta, and Gene Imsande. AS WE GATHER: Has a friend ever asked, Why do you go to church? While there are many good answers to that question, we are reminded today of the primary reason we gather in a place like this, for a service like this, on a day like this. The author to the Hebrews reminds us: For we share in Christ (Hebrews 3:14). Going to church isn t primarily something we do; church is, first and foremost, something God does for us. Through His Son, Jesus Christ, our gracious God serves us through Word and Sacrament, so that we may hold fast to Him even as He holds us in His care! Today s service will help us to treasure all that we ve been given in our Savior, who is fully present among us by His Word and Spirit. Hold fast, for you share in Christ! Image: We share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. Hebrews 3:14 READINGS: Amos 5:6 7, 10 15, Hebrews 3:12 19, Mark 10:17 22

Tools and building supplies will be made available to team members. MERCY TEAM: We also have the opportunity to provide a non-constructive Mission team that would conduct something like an adult VBS. Many of the young families that had lived in Puerto Rico have been relocated to the United States after the storm, so many residents remaining on the island are elderly. We would like to put the two 2019 Mission Teams together by November 30, Mission Team lodging will be supplied in the guest quarters near the church in Mayaguez. Five pianists will showcase the piano during an hour of praise, gratitude, and celebration. The special guest performer is Alice Tillman, the piano saleslady from Schmitt Music, Brooklyn Center who helped both Trinity and St. Peter's to select their grand pianos. Alice will play two solos, Janell Brakel will play four, and then the two of them will perform two duets. Representing St. Peter's are pianists Amy Wallgren, Grace Wallgren, and Brian Seip. Additional performances will be provided by the St. Peter's Choir, and by vocal soloists Heidi Dresser and Dave Witikko. A program of mainly classic hymns, along with music of other styles is planned. The concert is free, and refreshments will be served. Please join us on 10/14 for a time of music and celebration! - Janell Brakel
