1 PRELUDE 9:00 AM SERVICE UMW Sunday, January 25, 2015 *Indicates to stand as you are able. (UMH) United Methodist Hymnal (the red book) (FWS) Faith We Sing (the black book) WORDS OF WELCOME AND GRACE UMW MOMENT *CALL TO WORSHIP Mary Hasen and Shannon Lindenfeld One: From the heart of the apostle Paul, we hear this power: God s various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all originate in God s Spirit. God s various ministries are carried out everywhere; but they all originate in God s Spirit. One: God s various expressions of power are in action everywhere; God is behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! One: And so we come, a variety of people who seek to share gifts and gratitude through our lives. Let us trust the Giver. Let us join the movement of God s grace in the world. Let us worship our God. (Based on 1 Corinthians 12: 4 6, The Message) *HYMN (UMH) No. CHILDREN S LESSON Deedee Odell and Judi Schuller Children are always welcome in worship. Activities are available in the Narthex, as you enter the Sanctuary. There is also a nursery on the east side of the church, and a KinderCorner in the Narthex, just outside the Sanctuary. Our ushers are happy to assist you. ANTHEM JOHN 9:1-12 SERMON Rev. Katy Lee *RESPONSE TO THE WORD *HYMN United Methodist Social Creed We believe in God, Creator of the world; and in Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of creation. We believe in the Holy Spirit, through whom we acknowledge God s gifts, and we repent of our sin in misusing these gifts to idolatrous ends. We affirm the natural world as God s handiwork and dedicate ourselves to its preservation, enhancement, and faithful use by humankind. We joyfully receive for ourselves and others the blessings of community, sexuality, marriage, and the family. We commit ourselves to the rights of men, women, children, youth, young adults, the aging, and people with disabilities; to improvement of the quality of life; and to the rights and dignity of all persons. We believe in the right and duty of persons to work for the glory of God and the good of themselves and others and in the protection of their welfare in so doing; in the rights to property as a trust from God, collective bargaining, and responsible consumption; and in the elimination of economic and social distress. We dedicate ourselves to peace throughout the world, to the rule of justice and law among nations, and to individual freedom for all people of the world. We believe in the present and final triumph of God s Word in human affairs and gladly accept our commission to manifest the life of the gospel in the world. Amen. SHARING OUR GIFTS SPECIAL MISSION RECONGNITION MUSICAL OFFERING * HYMN *PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS, ending in the PRAYER OF JESUS *BENEDICTION POSTLUDE Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
